my contribution to the dsmp stage play stuff is that i think there’s a scripted gag of tommy shoving jack out of the spotlight. it’s just fun slapstick- jack get to flail around exaggeratedly and fall to the floor. but then the shoves start getting a lot less scripted and a lot more sudden. and jack’s getting a lot more scraped up, and the audience is starting to be unsure if this is still a gag. when tommy shoves him right off the stage and into the audience, theres no more laughter. one of these days, jack says to them, sitting on the floor of the aisle, he’s gonna start shoving back. one of these days.

i’ve been thinking about this all week just god jack’s character in the stage play would be so incredible to get to work with.

like imagine throughout the play a certain piece of music plays everytime a character loses a canon life (i think it’s called a motif but i could be wrong) - it’s a little different for each character but something that becomes almost immediately recognizable to the audience. it plays cutting the silence when tommy’s shot during the duel, a chorus of them play during the final control room massacre. and then during the manberg vs. pogtopia war, barely audible admist the chaos, it plays as wilbur kills jack in the background of the rest of the characters chasing after schlatt.

Like there’s just so much you could do with that. The characters calling the audience chat while delivering soliloquies, the costumes the staging. Like you could have Phil rise up out of the audience to stop Wilbur from blowing it all up. You could have Dream moving spotlights around and making you look where he wants. It makes me sick.

imagine if before you even posted about your experience with a video game (much less created fanwork for it) you or someone before you had to personally and semi-publically ask every single voice actor and writer and programmer of that game about how they feel about the characters they wrote/portrayed being interpreted in a variety of situations (or otherwise track down proof of this happening), often by means of someone putting them on the spot in the middle of an interview, and it was somehow considered in good taste to do this to them despite these being wildly invasive questions to ask to literally anyone in real life.

now imagine that this was not just considered to be "in good taste", but instead was seen as a moral obligation which people must compulsively follow to be included in fandom, and not checking through the history and details of people's real lives (or even trying to publicly say it shouldn't be necessary) would likely cause that fan to face the extremely public ire of potentially thousands of people. because they treated a public celebrity and stranger like a stranger they didn't need or want to know any personal details about.

that'd be pretty fucked up, right?
