i like when a piece of media says that an all-powerful character "sees humans as insects" because that really could mean a lot of things. maybe they view us as insignifigant and will squish us under their boot. maybe theyre actually studying and cataloguing us for their thesis paper. maybe theyre campaigning for human protection because we're an important part of their ecosystem. maybe they see a human and go "ew ew ewwwwww someone get the cup and get that FREAK out of my house." .
“Your pets only love you because you feed them”
Yeah well that’s also how your relationship with your parents starts out but more stuff happens after that doesn’t it
calling a mutual by their name and having to check you're right like omg what if they transitioned and changed their name in the twelve hours since i last saw them on my dash

Mickey Milkovich & Ian Gallagher's Relationship
(Shameless Seasons 1 to 11)
Ian and Mickey's relationship is one of the most layered romances on television. It isn't built on instant trust or perfect communication. Instead, it's built through years of mistakes, forgiveness, growth, and choosing each other despite every reason not to. Their story is a slow transformation from secrecy and survival into honesty, stability, and unconditional love.
Opposites That Somehow Fit
On paper, they shouldn't work.
Ian is thoughtful, patient, compassionate, and tends to think before acting. He wants stability and purpose, often trying to fix problems before they spiral out of control.
Mickey is impulsive, sarcastic, emotionally guarded, and reacts first while asking questions later. He grew up believing that violence solved problems and that showing emotion made you weak.
Yet these differences become their greatest strength.
Ian slows Mickey down.
Mickey pushes Ian to stop overthinking.
Ian teaches Mickey vulnerability.
Mickey teaches Ian unconditional loyalty.
Together, they become far stronger than either of them ever could alone.
The Foundation: Loyalty
Their relationship isn't built on romance alone.
It's built on loyalty.
Whenever one of them falls apart, the other instinctively steps in.
Ian never gives up on Mickey despite his anger, criminal lifestyle, or inability to express emotions.
Mickey never abandons Ian during his bipolar disorder, even when Ian pushes everyone away.
Neither of them loves the easiest version of the other.
They love each other at their worst.
Communication... Sort Of
Neither Ian nor Mickey starts the series knowing how to communicate well.
Ian bottles up his emotions until they explode.
Mickey hides everything behind sarcasm, insults, or violence.
Many of their biggest arguments happen because both assume the other already knows how they feel.
Ironically, over the seasons, they become surprisingly healthy communicators.
Not perfect.
Healthy enough.
They learn to apologize.
To compromise.
To actually talk before throwing punches.
Most of the time.
Their Biggest Challenge
Their greatest obstacle is never another person.
It's themselves.
Ian struggles with bipolar disorder and fears becoming a burden.
Mickey struggles with years of abuse that convinced him love equals weakness.
Both spend years believing they don't deserve happiness.
Their relationship succeeds only after they stop fighting each other and begin fighting their own fears.
How They Love
Ian loves quietly.
He shows affection through consistency, patience, and showing up when people need him.
He's the type to remind Mickey to eat, take care of himself, or sit beside him in silence after a difficult day.
Mickey loves loudly.
He threatens anyone who hurts Ian.
He starts fights.
He risks prison.
He'll insult Ian one minute and defend him with his life the next.
His love language is essentially:
"Nobody gets to mess with you except me."
It's chaotic...
But sincere.
Growth Together
One of the most satisfying parts of their relationship is watching them mature.
Ian learns that asking for help isn't weakness.
Mickey learns that vulnerability isn't weakness.
Ian accepts his mental illness instead of running from it.
Mickey accepts his sexuality instead of hiding it.
Neither changes because the other forces them to.
They change because being loved makes them believe they're worth changing for themselves.
Married Life
Marriage doesn't magically fix them.
They still argue over ridiculous things.
They annoy each other daily.
Mickey still acts before thinking.
Ian still has to clean up the occasional disaster.
But the difference is they're finally facing life together instead of separately.
Their arguments become less about survival and more about everyday married life, proving just how far they've come.
Why They Work
What makes Ian and Mickey special isn't that they're perfect.
It's that they're persistent.
They've lied to each other.
Broken up.
Been separated by prison, mental illness, fear, and family.
Yet every road somehow leads them back together.
Their relationship is built on trust earned over years, not weeks.
On forgiveness instead of perfection.
On choosing each other over and over again.
At their core, Ian gives Mickey something he never had growing up:
Safety.
And Mickey gives Ian something he's always needed:
Someone who refuses to leave.
Their love story isn't about finding the right person.
It's about becoming the right person while refusing to let go of the one you love.
gonna be honest i don’t know how many more ‘enter the 6 digit code we sent to your phone’s i got left in me
well maybe you should blearily wake up at 5:08 in the pre-dawn light and find the sleeping soft tiny mammal body of your cat just inches from your head like a miracle too beautiful for speech, and you should rustle one hand out from your blankets to rub fingertip circles across the warm eggshell dome of her little velvet-wrapped skull and on the bristly patches just where the cups of her ears begin, and as she inclines her head into your fingers and purrs without ever opening her little eyes you should feel a love so tender that you understand how that love could have reached out from the fireside into the inky spangled nights long gone to reach her, and then you'll feel better
i am at a complete loss as to how to adequately express to you how much this cat throws up yeah

it's somehow august. march feels like yesterday, and october feels like tomorrow. new versions of myself show up in the mirror faster than ever. i don't think i'll ever understand time. one day, it feels like i have control. the next day, everything's different, and so am i.

ian annoyed and exasperated gallagher
many women are excited to get old and weird, but i have great news that it's fully possible to become weird now, before you get old. just imagine the heights of weirdness you will be able to reach in fifty years if you get started now. that's what I think
shout out to my grandma who heard about how bad my mental health has been getting and asked my dad “well, have you tried taking him to the sea?” like you did to cure tuburculosis in the 1800s

watching a show where you know your ship gets canonically married is like. ah yes, you know that guy you just met? that's your future husband. oh believe me, I know you're Big mad at him right now, but the thing to remember here is, well. that's your future husband. yes yes he just broke up with you and it hurts so much you feel like you're gonna die, but see the funny thing about that is. that's your Future Husband
your twenties are about realising you’re not and simply aren’t going to be dazzlingly cool the way you wanted to be and tried to be in your teenage years, that you’ll never be that image you tried to chisel yourself into—but that you have grown quite accidentally and organically cool in an entirely new way and you don’t mind the unexpectedness of it. not at all
