This unusually dark purple gown was created by Janet Patterson and her team for the 2009 film 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳, where it was worn by Abbie Cornish as Fanny Brawne. The costume appears throughout the film in several forms, with and without sleeves, and originally featured copper-colored ribbons and decorative flounces around the skirt.   The gown later appeared on Claudia Jessie in the 2018 adaptation of 𝘝𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘍𝘢𝘪𝘳 before turning up again on Ella Bruccoleri as Mary Bennet in the 2026 mini-series 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘉𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳.   The distinctive semi-sheer linen and sleeve flounces strongly suggest it’s the same costume, but there are some intriguing differences.   In 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳, the back is almost entirely open and tied with a ribbon. By the time it appears in 𝘝𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘍𝘢𝘪𝘳 and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘉𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳, the back seems to have been permanently closed—perhaps with hook-and-eye fasteners or even a zipper (gasp!).   The skirt flounces also appear to be gone, possibly removed to alter the length. Interestingly, in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘉𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳, tiny holes and loose threads may mark where they were once attached.
