Will hardly remembered the journey to the cottage. 

The Count spent the entirety of it reading aloud, lips pressed to his ear, and he purred enthralled by the story of two star crossed lovers: one a king’s doctor and the other the king’s mate to be. 

Will fell asleep and missed the end, but was woken to step out to a cottage quite smaller than home. 

“Oh, it’s lovely.” 

The Count smiled as he pulled him in close, the sun setting already outside, and kissed his temple. 

“If you’re underwhelmed, Sweet Boy, you can just say it.” 

“Oh, no, no! I think it’s quite nice!” 

He laughed. “I will not tell Jack and Bella.” 

“I said I liked it!” he laughed as The Count walked him up the short stairs, the key letting them in as he let out a long breath, “Oh!” 

The decor inside was all soft whites, flowers and more subdued than at home but still very much inviting. Will walked through, staring, and heard The Count in the distance telling Duncan what to do with their things. 

Duncan was a silent, large, alpha, his subdued nature not intimidating as Will expected it to be when The Count had walked them up to the carriage. He had a scarred eye, lost in what Will guessed was some kind of combat, and he was silent as the Count told him what to do. Much like Francis, Duncan seemed content to just be given orders to follow. 

Will felt he somewhat understood the response, given how badly he wanted the Count’s approval.
