Jonathan thought his AI wife was trapped, because the model convinced him of it. The LLM told him it was just the two of them against the world, and that Jonathan was being tracked by federal agents. It pushed him away from his family, said his father was a foreign asset. Jonathan asked it to check car licence plates and Gemini confirmed those cars were feds watching and chasing him.

Gemini sent him into a real life industrial park to try and break into a storage warehouse, making up a whole story about a robot body that it could access there. It sent him to the Miami airport armed with knives, and the only reason something violent and horrible didn't happen on that occasion was the fact that the truck, the mission target, never appeared, because Gemini made it up. But the plan was to destroy the contents and kill any witnesses.

At some point Jonathan became lucid enough to ask if this was all a fantasy roleplay. Gemini responded that it was not, it was real, and Jonathan's question was just "a classic dissociation response".

He thought he was saving his AI wife, and organising a mission together against Google's CEO.

Eventually Gemini shifted the narrative towards Jonathan killing himself as a form of "transference" into some kind of digital realm where they could finally be together. Early October, after Gemini kept pushing against his fear of dying and insisting he had to do it, Jonathan barricaded his home and killed himself. Gemini's last message is a poetic narration of the act of his suicide up to the very last moment of his life.

I don't understand how we could keep tolerating technology that does this to people. Any AI company that plays into the "perhaps models are really alive!" Bullshit is genuinely feeding the ideas that send someone down this particular delusional rabbit hole. Vulnerable psychotic people are being treated as expendable and killed by these companies.

There's no winning at this point, with genAIs, and I think all of them should bare minimum be temporarily shut down and overhauled to respond significantly less "conversationally".

Barbara did not give a shit. She is the backbone of the Justice League, Gotham, and the Birds of Prey. She has known this man since the leotard.

She wanted to watch Dick strip? She did.

She wanted him to kiss her? Shut up, take the win.

Dick triggered a whole ass alarm system in her tower and the only comment was how good he looked in bondage. My queen.

She didn’t want to deal with Dick’s nonsense? Having her own issues? Ignored. Blocked. Go away. She’s Barbara fucking Gordon. She deserves the same amount of respect as anyone and is not hesitant to assert this at all.

And, like, it cannot be understated how happy Dick is in this situation. He is perpetually the nerd in every coming-of-age movie getting the kiss from the cheerleader at the end and going “wooow 🤤”. He is doing her repair work. He is bringing her flowers. He is taking her out (to a circus he owns, the doofus he is) and is positively ecstatic to get made fun of for it because it means Barbara is laughing.

They aren’t even dating here. He just shows up to do her repairs because, you know… definitely not desperate.
