Shampoo is no seductress
Sometimes folks will see her as a femme fatal or someone who can bring men to their knees but truth is she's Really Bad at Flirting
She's even worse at it than Ranma who already sucks at it (Ranma being a charmer is also fabricated)
She has the same vision about relationships as a 3 yeard old
"We hug we kiss i call you my husband"
A kid who sees another kid on the other side of the playground, runs up to them and hugs them while the kid is like "what's going on"
Not that i'm saying she's innocent by comparing her to a kid, she's not
But her courting methods are similar to what's essentially a cruel child with super strenght
The other high school boys might see shanpoo hovering over ranma and go "you are so lucky man" or they might go eat at the nekohanten just to see her as the waitress, but those are people Shampoo doesn't even acknowledge the existence of, she doesn't see them
If she actually pursued them anywhere close the way she does to Ranma they'd all run away
There was a fic with an author's note saying "isn't it odd Shampoo only has 1 admirer when Ukyo has 2 and Akane several?" and no it's not odd, it's very much deliberate
Because only someone like Mousse could see someone like Shampoo and go "that's a 10/10 girl!"
(To all Shampoo fans who hate Mousse: You Are Mousse)
You work at a superhero museum right? I’m thinking of applying to the Starman museum in Opal but I’m nervous that it would be a common target for super villains. Is that something you guys normally worry about? The JSA museum is a good example. It’s literally in the same place as the it headquarters, how does that not stress the workers out?
The Starman Museum, as far as "postings" in this profession goes would be pretty easygoing all things considered. While SOME superhero museums are commonly the site of supervillain attacks (most famously the Flash Museum and the Hall of Justice) it's not all of them. And it's certainly not most of them, and it tends to come down to certain aspects of the museum itself rather than being some inbuilt functions of superhero museums as a whole. So you'd be better looking up the specific outlook and regulations of the Starman museum AND thinking about how it operates in relation to the hero or heroes it's about before making your choice.
As always, the devil's in the details.
(A photo I took from the observation deck on the top floor of the Starman Museum, show a classical statue on Starman and the "muse" delivering his Star Rod)
At the highest possible danger zone you of course have the Hall of Justice. The reason this one is the hardest to keep from being blown up is pretty simple. Because it's still the most easily reachable headquarters of the Justice League. While we're all well aware by now that most of the ACTUAL work gets done in their satellite Watchtower high above our heads and that the Hall of Justice is mostly a public relations front, most villains can't get to space that easy. If you want to pick a fight with the League with the added kicker of it being in a place where the world at large will DEFINATELY be paying attention, you attack the Hall of Justice.
You can file the JSA Brownstone museum under this exact same category but even WORSE for the fact that the upper floors of the building are still the most actively used headquarters of the modern Justice Society, with only the bottom two floors dedicated to the museum. Meaning that the building can come under attack from those who not only want the Society's attention but also know that they're going to BE THERE, so a fight can start immediately without the heroes being able to tactically assess the situation from another position and before evacuation can be undertaken. If someone slams through the wall and comes out holding Green Lantern by the collar the punch-up is already on. Both the Hall and the Brownstone also use the "As Recovered" standard for artifact display. Since they're under the protection of active superhero teams, and serve just as much for technology storage and reference as they do for public education, everything on display at both is kept as functional as possible from its original state. There are of course safety precautions in place, and they're the places where the heroes can most easily directly respond if something goes wrong. But things like the Thinker's Thinking Cap or the backup Phantom Zone projector need to be kept operational so they can be used or studied in the event of a relevant case.
Below that is where I would put the Superman and Flash museums, with the Flash museum ranking slightly higher on the danger scale. While Superman and the Flash Family obviously aren't based in either museum, they're the most publicly accessible buildings with said heroes' names on them. The Flashes have no publicly known headquarters at all and Superman's Fortress of Solitude is a bit out of range of most supervillains. Both museums also adhere to the "Functionally Disarmed" standard for their artifacts, meaning they're displayed in such a fashion as to be rendered mostly safe but not entirely inert. The guns taken from Captain Cold at the Flash Museum have the trigger mechanism removed but not any of the internal machinery, the Kryptonite displayed at the Superman museum IS real Kryptonite just kept behind polarized, leaded glass. This obviously presents a tempting target for villains or even regular criminals who see an easy way to make off with technology and resources. Especially if the displayed technology originally belonged to them. Half the time the Rogues attack the Flash museum just to get their shit back from the last time they got arrested.
And then, in the most mellow layer, we have what I do here at the Perisphere and what I imagine the Starman museum is like. Unlike the Flash museum, we adhere to the "Least Operable State" standard. Rather than simply removing the offending mechanism or trigger, we remove all internal components or machinery from our artifacts before they ever go on display. Both we and the Starman museum have versions of his Cosmic Rod on display, but they're just well polished and maintained walking sticks at this point since NONE of the internals remain past the outer shell. We also have the buffer of not being attached to a currently active superhero or team. The All Star Squadron was disbanded in 1945, it has been several years since there was a member of the Knight-Starman legacy directly active in Opal City. No one is going to assault a building where there's nothing to steal and there's no one to fight. The risk isn't ZERO but it's much lower than all above options.
Despite the most often reported example, this is by a VAST majority the most common type of superhero museum. More in line with a local historical society than some grand display of public wealth. If your community has or had a hometown hero, look into where your local hero museum is. I know for a fact that they are always STARVING for new staff and volunteers and it's the best way to make your resume look better if you really insist on moving up to the big boys one day.

Right back to Agents of SHIELD! I assume there's going to be a crossover with this Captain America story, which is why we stopped before dealing with the psychic?
That's funny, Jack's cover art was so big and detailed, they didn't have enough room to fit a title! There's also nothing about Dr. Strange, except his face on that thing in the top left. Do they have a name?
Since it's been a while, the recap is helpful.
Oh, these guys! Who would sort of be friends for years.
for Detective Drama Casting:
James Hong, in the Judge Dee Mysteries.
This ask is how I learned that there is a Judge Dee adaptation, and that it's on Netflix! Thank you for that.
I think James Hong should be a wine-seller who is generally done with the shenanigans surrounding him, but perhaps persuaded to aid our sleuth in his endeavors.
I reviewed it a while back--as I mention in that review, there are so many layers of adaptation involved already that being a stickler for "canon" has no real purpose.
Crusher, Mary, those are AWFUL superhero names. They don't have the least bit to do with your abilities...
Amazing Spiderman 429
The Champions role-playing game had a pair of characters named Thunder and Lightning, a married couple who'd used their powers for crime out of economic desperation. The judge sentenced them to community service as superheroes. Part of their thing was constantly griping about having to be do-gooders.
Thanks to all the discussions about Sam, I wanna ask if you'd be willing to do a deep dive into your field's perspective on the "John Dough VS the Justice League" thing, it's not the first time the US turned on it's superpowered protectors, nor the last, but it is one of the most fascinating, given who "John Dough" turned out to really be, which makes it seem rather surreal.
As I've repeated over and over again in these posts, the coming of the original Justice League generation broke the dam held together by the Keene Act and the social zeitgeist that summoned it all at once. One by one a new generation of heroes appeared, so bright, colorful and trustworthy in their immediate interactions with the world that people's need and love for heroes bloomed almost at once. And nearly a century of antipathy toward masked vigilantes vanished inside a single election year if not less. The Keene Act was defanged and redirected, the heroes came together and became more popular with each adventure.
But the social conservatism and moral hysteria that created the Keene Act in the first place hadn't actually gone anywhere. It had retreated after an onslaught of positive coverage but hadn't yet actually been CONFRONTED by the modern generation of heroes. Unknowingly they coasted on a wave of good vibes that was neither eternal nor immortal.
And when that moral panic returned, they would have to face it head on if their new generation was going to survive the battles of the old and continue growing!
(A panel from a illustrated tract put out by Dough and his supporters)
"John Dough" was a man who came out of nowhere with a seemingly simple epithet. He was known as Mr Average, the most normal man in America. His height, his hair color, his mannerisms, wealth, dress and interests were all considered unshakably "normal" by the collective of American society. There was not a single disquieting thing about him from any possible angle, nothing to unsettle or challenge the listener. And anyone with an understanding of American sociology or politics can smell the reactionary garbage a mile off.
Beginning to whip up a moral frenzy around the superhuman "freaks" of the Justice League, Dough was even able to recruit the League's teenage mascot Snapper Carr into his orbit as the young man struggled with the unwanted attention that came from public association with the League. Turns out way too many losers wanted to "take on" and member of the League and Carr started to be harassed everywhere he went on top of ending up a perennial damsel in distress. He became Dough's right hand man, lending credibility to his claims against the League as a seeming insider turned against them.
Dough's actual plot would begin going into action when he had Carr activate his special distress signal, brining Batman and The Atom into a trap. The Atom managed to slip away from the assault but Batman was captured and Dough took his place, although he instantly began to slip up in the role. Not only could he of course not match the Batman's famously stern personality, he couldn't get anywhere near his level of athleticism. On top of that he stumbled in his inability to recognize the Black Canary whose membership hadn't yet been publicly announced. he was able to play the ruse well enough to sucker the League into making an appearance at Dough's next rally to "answer the charges" in a public forum. Only for specialized technology hidden in the venue to prompt an outpouring of confusion and aggression in both the League and the crowd, stirring up a riot that was only averted by the quick thinking of the Black Canary.
"Batman" volunteered to testify about the event before Congress, only to begin outlining a conspiratorial plan the League supposedly held for taking control of the American government! Whipping up even further frenzy and coming inches from getting the full powers of the Keene Act reinstated. Only to of course be foiled when the real Batman burst in and swept the rug out from under the lies being sold. Publicly unmasking "John Dough" as the infamous criminal mastermind known as The Joker! Although the Joker's wider plot was foiled, he was still sitting in front of a hot mic and a running tv camera and so in a last act of sabotage as he fled he revealed the location of the Justice League's Sanctuary headquarters underneath the mountains of Happy Harbor, Rhode Island.
The Joker was confronted in said headquarters and inevitable both defeated and arrested. But the League was left with the hard realization that a large chunk of the security surrounding Sanctuary Mountain required its location to be a secret from the general public. With their young friend having betrayed them and all being burned out and exhausted by the media circus, the mountain was abandoned and the League began construction on the first iteration of a satellite headquarters that would eventually be known as the Watchtower.
While the Joker's involvement is particularly shocking, and the betrayal of young Mr Carr was of course a deep personal blow to the League itself, the most lasting after effect of this event is that it saw the League facing the public outcry and political pressure that had spelled the end of the Justice Society generation and overcome it. Those seeking to undermine the League were shown not only as politicly reactionary and misguided (Dough's stated philosophies were ROUNDLY condemned by the League, most famously in a speech by Green Arrow given in the aftermath championing the strengths of diversity and the collective strength of individual gifts put to a common cause. A mission statement the League holds to even to this day) but also openly malicious. From then on those seeking to undermine the League and other hero organizations would be met with a skeptical eye by the public who always kept in the back of their minds the idea that any act targeted against the superhero community would lead to prosperity for villains and mundane criminals alike. Not to say that the hysteria would NEVER come again but the next time it would require a mind controlling alien televangelist.
See this is why they fight Matt, at least Matt takes them seriously.

I haven't been active on Booklr for a few years, but is it still here??
I know you can post whatever, but wondered if it's worth me being active again on that side of Tumblr
Please let me know if it's still going strong, I doubt it's as big as it was when I started but still would be good to interact with bookish people across different social media
it's still here :3 no idea how any of us there are anymore and it's hard to find active blogs but we're definitely still around
I am still doing book reviews and such.
Steve, are you going to trust Batroc?
Oh, it's really glowing!
I trust him now!
It doesn't really make sense that they can see the glowing cylinder but she can't, but I don't care! And I won't miss it, Batroc!
I can't believe it, but I think this issue gets five stars? I liked the stuff with Steve Rogers, this plot seems cool, and Batroc is a fun villain who switches sides when he's in danger!
Batroc may be an amoral mercenary, but he doesn't let that be his whole personality.
Okay I got wayyy too pissed off by The Bluff's protagonist getting too little attention, time to focus on something positive instead
Top five female-led action movies:
The Woman King
2. Atomic Blonde
3. The Old Guard
4. Birds of Prey
5. Blue Eye Samurai (not a movie, but wtv. too good not to be included!)
recs welcome!
Wonder Woman (2017)
Seems to have fallen out of popular discourse, mostly, but is was a very well-made movie, and had some tangible impact. Also, one of the few superhero movies that is actually about something.
The Rose of Versailles (2025)
GORGEOUS animation. I must admit that I don't know neither the manga nor older adaptations*, so I can't judge if it is faithful. But as a stand-alone, it is a very beautiful movie. *apart from the 1979 Lady Oscar movie. Which seems to have been... somewhat confused, thematically speaking.
The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982)
Doesn't do Marguerite justice, because none of the adaptations do. She should be the sole protagonist, but somehow everyone who is adapting the book seems to get confused by the title?? Still, very nice movie. Damn, I love Marguerite. She is just THE BEST.
The Great Flood (2025)
Cool action, and then it getts to the time loop. Very ineresting movie that feels fresh in many ways.
Filibus (1915)
Not sure if it has enough action to count as an "action movie". Not sure if the protagonist even is a woman, either. Which I suppose is part of the appeal. Very old crappy science fiction movie with an ambigously genderfluid villain protagonist my beloved.
D.E.B.S. (2004)
I can't leave D.E.B.S. out, I can't. It's just... Teen spy movie from the 2000s, with a lesbian hero/villain romance. OMG, I should rewatch D.E.B.S.
Anna and the Apocalypse (2017)
... it's a coming-of-age Christmas zombie musical. A coming-of-age Christmas zombie musical. Absolutely no-one does it like this movie.
Mystère à la tour Eiffel (2016)
Detective rather than action, also maybe not the best. But it is my not very good historic lesbian detective movie, and I will always be fond of it.
I haven't yet watched the new Supergirl movie, because I am waiting for it to be available in normal format, rather than just Lazer HD 3D Ultra. But I do have high hopes for it.
The new Rose of Versailles movie is...jam-packed, it's condensing twenty or so years of history and character development into under two hours, plus musical numbers. The TV anime is better for actually letting the story breathe and including many subplots the movie had to skip. But, and this is very important, the movie is pretty.
Weirdest superhero trophy from a past adventure you've come across?
That's edging close to asking me what I think the weirdest superhero event we have record of is. And BOY is that a rabbit hole with no bottom. But when it comes to taking weird souvenirs for even weirder adventures that edge on the very limits of what I could call "far out" in a very hippie sense, no one makes a dent in the good old JLA back when it was still getting off the ground.
Seriously. This is only one of like, a couple dozen capers like this that took place within the first couple of years of the League's existence. Shit got WEIRD. FAST.
(DC's "dramatization" of the event serves as as good a picture as any. Because there's only so much you can make up about a story this stupid.)
A carnival is set up, seemingly out of nowhere outside the town of Happy Harbor, Rhode Island. Which was actually the original base of the JLA though no one would know that for years yet. The League's original "mascot" a young man named Snapper Carr brings his young lady friend there to spend the evening only to get sucked through a portal to another world! Honestly the most astonishing thing is that that sort of thing happened to Mr. Carr all the time. And still does from everything I've ever heard about the man.
Sending out a rescue call to the League, he was pulled from danger relatively quickly. And so the League decides to investigate without arousing suspicion, sending Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Green Arrow undercover as normal patrons of the fair to see what's going on. When they too stumble through the trapped attractions of the carnival and find on the other side a ship laden with a hostile alien race known as Angellaxians (not to be confused with the Appellaxians who served as the foil for the League's first adventure and it's original crowning glory one year later). The Angellaxians had sent a probe through inhabited space, secretly spying on weapon designs from across the galaxy in the zig zagging pattern that would eventually reach the Earth. Not wanting to be discovered by humanity, they set up the fair to abduct ordinary patrons so the Angellaxian spies sent to retrieve the probes could take human forms and slip by unnoticed.
They attempt to get the drop on the League and fail when Aquaman goes in after his teammates and manages to free the quartet, though not before their bodies are warped by an alien funhouse mirror serving as a last line of defense within the alien ship. Which morphed their bodies into the exaggerated forms you see on the cover above, more or less. Although if the invaders thought that these cosmetic alterations would either embarrass the heroes into retreat or somehow hobble them in the fight to come, they were wrong on both counts. The aliens were defeated, the probe destroyed and the perpetrators taken into custody by the Green Lantern Corps.
The absurd trophy to come out of it is, of course, the alien funhouse mirror itself. Which now sits to the right hand side of the Hall of Justice's entryway where it is most often lazily glanced at by those in line for a ticket. Many of whom don't even glance down to the plaque that explains the whole story telling WHY the line to enter the Hall has what seems like a chintzy fair decoration in it. Although obviously the alien technology has been removed from behind the mirror AND it's behind a special panel of polarized glass to render the energy it broadcast ineffective anyway.
If you want basically ALL of the contenders on this list, take a tour of the Flash Museum and the Hall of Justice and you've got basically 90% of the good ones.
If it's crazy, but the bad guy goes down, it's not that crazy.
Amazing Spiderman 425
Nate is there some reason you can’t just knock him out with your mind? I get that a lot of characters are resistant or immune to telepathy at this point but I don’t think electro is one of them, do whatever charls does to Cain whenever the helmet gets taken off
Because Nate wants to kill him and Peter is trying to get him to NOT do that
Like I said you can apparently non lethally incapacitate him with a psychic whammy because professor X does it to juggernaught all the time
Nate either doesn't WANT to or doesn't know HOW
I think it was mentioned earlier that Max *thinks* he has some immunity due to brainwaves being electrical in nature, and he can control that. Nate is powerful enough to probably override that, but he's holding back because Spidey.

Was he? I mean, how old is Tony? How old is Steve?
And his memories were damaged? That's interesting.
If he did learn, it was after you "died" so he'd probably be sad.
Is this Betty Ross/Agent R/X-13/Agent Thirteen?
Are they going to change her name now that there's another Betty Ross? Or will it turn out that she married General Ross and died in childbirth and he named their daughter after her?
The timeline works and she could even be Steve's child from a premarital affair, by the way. After Steve goes into the ice, X-13 realizes she's pregnant, has a shotgun wedding with General Ross, who she knows from her military career so her child isn't a bastard, possibly telling him the real father, dies in childbirth, and he raises the daughter as his own.
Partial memory damage will be a recurring way for the writers to put in retcons--and in one case we'll learn the U.S. military deliberately planted false memories just in case Cap was ever captured and interrogated, but they activate randomly.
-_-
...some letterer thought they were being reeealll CUTE.
