An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Sneak peek;
So when her dad got a permanent position at the Gard, and her parents sat them down to explain that they’d be moving to Idris indefinitely, Ginny had been both happy and apprehensive. It would be nice to finally stay somewhere longer than nine months, to have a room to call her own, and be able to paint the walls without wondering whether she’d have to leave them behind before the paint dried. But what if she didn’t like Alicante? What if staying at one place for years and years turned out to be… boring?
As it turned out, she had worried for absolutely nothing
Because approximately seven minutes after arriving at her new house, and while she was at the yard admiring the view, she was flattened by a blonde hurricane. It all happened so quickly she had no time to react. One moment she was standing, squinting at the afternoon sun and trying to decide whether she liked the street. The next, somebody slammed into her hard enough to send both of them sprawling onto the cobblestones.
Ginny landed on her back with all the grace and dignity of a dropped sack of potatoes, and the other girl landed beside her, the breath clearly knocked out of her lungs.
For one stunned second, they simply stared at each other
Then the girl burst into laughter. “Oh, by the Angel, I’m so sorry!” The sweetest voice she’d ever heard rung into her ears, bright and breathless and entirely too delighted for someone who’d just committed assault.
A hand appeared in front of Ginny’s face.
“This is all your fault, Gerry!” the girl announced as she hauled Ginny back to her feet with surprising strength. “You made me crash into –”
She stopped, blinking at Ginny expectantly.
“Ginny,” Ginny supplied, and the girl’s face lit up immediately, blonde hair catching the midday sun, reflecting off it like a halo.
“You made me crash into Ginny!”
