so guys I have a theory. I think heathens is directed towards new clique members:
“all my friends are heathens”
the word heathen basically means someone who doesn’t belong to a group, usually religious. so basically an outsider. tyler is saying all his friends (the clique) are outsiders.
“take it slow, wait for them to ask you who you know”
we were here first, if that means anything. take it slow with us. wait for us to ask you. wait for us to welcome you to the clique. walk on eggshells because:
“please don’t make any sudden moves. you don’t know the half of the abuse”
we’ve been through a lot. we all have been through bullying, depression, anxiety, various mental disorders. new clique members may not understand the connection we have with tyler’s lyrics and tyler and josh as people because of the things we’ve all been through. you don’t know what we’ve experienced and for most of us, how important twenty one pilots is to our existence. some clique members would’ve been long gone if not for those two men. don’t get in the way of that.
“welcome to the room of people who have rooms of people that they loved one day, docked away”
welcome to the clique. we’ve all been damaged and betrayed. we’ve loved and had our hearts broken. we are not particulary sane. we all have mental issues and problems, but they’re docked away for the safety of others. we are docked away but warning: we can get dangerous at a dangerously fast speed. be careful.
“just because we check the guns at the door doesn’t mean our brains will change from hand grenades”
as said before, we lock our problems away. we check our guns (issues) at the door and keep them on safety, doesn’t mean they’re not still with us. it doesn’t mean they are gone. they are still dangerous, on safety or not.
“you’ll never know the psychopath sitting next to you, you’ll never know the murderer sitting next to you”
by joining the clique, you will never know who you are standing with in the clique. we are psychopaths, murderers, schizophrenics, comsumed by depression. be careful.

you will question us all.

he has warned you of us. do not forget. we are the heathens.
“we don’t deal with outsiders very well, they say the newcomers have a certain smell. you have trust issues not to mention, they say we can smell your intention”
we are weary of new clique members. we think we know your intention. prove us wrong.
“you’ll never know the freakshow sitting next to you, you’ll have some weird people sitting next to you. you’ll think ‘how’d i get here sitting next to you’? but after all i’ve said, please don’t forget. all my friends are heathens, take it slow. wait for them to ask you who you know. please don’t make any sudden moves. you don’t know the half of the abuse.”
“why’d you come you know you should’ve stayed? it’s blasphemy. i tried to warn you just to stay away”
tyler has warned you through the entire song. you have taken the warning and whatever happens now is on you. you know you should’ve stayed.
“and now they’re outside ready to bust.”
we’re trying to accept you. we’re outside driving ourselves crazy enough to bust over welcoming you.
