Challenge: Kariâs Tom Hardy Writing Challenge ( @until-theend-oftheline )
Quote: âMaking the effort to be good is really really important. But being yourself is more important.â
Pairing: Eddie x Reader (Platonic)
Warnings: Anxiety Attack, mental health issues
Authorâs Note: So this is the first story Iâve written in months. The situation described is something that happened to me a few weeks ago (minus the call from Eddie) as my mental health was acting up. So please heed the warning. This story is not yet betad so I apologize for any and all mistakes. They are all mine.
You pulled the door closed behind you after you entered your flat, the keys landing on the shoe cabinet right in front of you. Making your way into our kitchen you threw the letter you pulled out of your mailbox just before you entered the apartment complex onto the table, while putting your backpack on a chair right next to it.
A sigh left your lips as you rubbed your hand over your face. You felt like crying and you were glad that the day was as good as over now. Having an exam was really taxing especially when you didnât sleep at all the night before. But it was the last exam at least. A small light at the tunnel.
After hanging your jacket over the chair where your backpack was lying and kicking your boots into the hallway you grabbed the letter again. You already could tell that it was from your dermatologist where you had an appointment for a skin exam two weeks ago. But you couldnât figure out why they would send you a letter.
You took a short letter out of the envelope and with it came also an invoice over 30$. Apparently your insurance didnât cover the skin exam so you needed to pay it yourself. It was only 30$ but you broke out in tears nevertheless. Maybe it was the fact that you hadnât slept the night before or that all the stress from the exam was finally falling away but it had you sobbing nonetheless. Your bad conscience also played a factor in it.
The letter dropped from your hands as you tried to calm yourself down by pressing them to your face. You hated this. It was not normal to break down in tears over an invoice. Even if you were tired as hell and your mind was playing tricks again regarding what happened at the supermarket a few minutes ago.
An elderly women didnât have enough money to buy all her groceries so she needed to give something back. Since you had your headphones in you didnât know what was going on just that the women held up the line for quite a while already. After you finally registered what was going on you thought about just buying the groceries for her but you couldnât make up your might until it was to late. One of the employees took away the milk product while the cashier put every other product behind her.
When it was your turn you bought your groceries yout told the cashier to give you the ones the elderly women left behind too while you kept and eye on her to make sure she wasnât leaving the supermarket. The cashier thanked you more than ones as you payed.
The elderly women didnât want to accept the groceries from you or wanted to pay you back at least but you said that it was finde and she should just enjoy them. After that you left the supermarket. All the way home your mind was telling you that you didnât do enough. You should have bought her all her groceries and not just a few. You should have made up your mind sooner.
All these thoughts were swirling inside your hand. Combined with the stress from the exam and sleep deprivation you couldnât stop the tears from flowing.
Suddenly your phone began to ring. Still sobbing yout took it out of your backpocket. Eddie was calling you. You swallowed, trying to compose yourself long enough to answer because you knew that he would come over to your apartment. Especially because he knew that you had your last exam today. He probably wanted to celebrate. But Eddie coming over was the last thing you needed right now. Even though you kind of wanted someone to hold you, you couldnât let him see you like this. No one was allowed to see you like this.
Your phone stopped ringing as you searched for a tissue to blow your nose. After wishing the rest of the tears from your face you called your best friend back.
âHey there sunshine!â, Eddie greeted you cheerfully. Despite your emotional state you smiled. It was always good to hear his voice.
âHey Eddie,â you answered.
âHow was your exam? Iâm sure you aced it, didnât you?â
âI wouldnât be so sure about that,â you replied, tears coming to your eyes again at the thought of your exam. âIt was really hard and the question didnât make sense at all. And I didnât sleep last night soâŚâ
âNah! Iâm sure you still passed! You were learning so hard!â he dismissed your concern. âBut what did you mean you didnât sleep last night? Not at all?â
âYeah. My mind wouldnât shut up.â
âWhy didnât you call me? I would have kept you company? Or come over? My apartment is just next door.â
You closed your eyes at his words. The thought crossed your mind as it got later and later last night. Eddie holding you would have gotten you to sleep right away like always. But at the end you didnât do it because you didnât want to burden him with your problems even if it was just not being able to sleep.
âYou had a big day today. Maybe next time. How was the interview by the way?â you tried to change the subject.
âDrop the maybe and weâre good,â Eddie said. âAnd the interview was good. Next time this year Iâm going to have a pulitzer. Gonna build it a shrine and everything.â
Despite still feeling awful you still had to laugh at that. âI can see you actually do that,â you chuckled.
âOf course. That award deserve a shrine. I have the design already mapped out.â
âOver confident much?â
âNaturally. There is nothing in this world which is going to top the article Iâm going to write about this interview. Just wait and see.â
âOh I will wait and see, donât worry. I even promise to make you your favorite if you do win the Pulitzer.â
âI think that award deserve more then a dinner, donât you think?â Eddie asked. You could hear the grin on his face through the phone which made you chuckle again.
âIâll make you my famous cake too,â you answered.
âThatâs my girl,â he exclaimed, quite pleased with himself. âBut seriously this time Y/N. How was your exam?â
You sighed. âI donât know. I have mixed feelings about it. The one today was so confusing that I wanted to hand it over without trying to answer anything. But I didnât and I was able to write something to every question. But who knows it that will actually be enough to pass.â
âIâm sure. You need to have 51%, donât you? Iâm sure you got that somehow.â
âYour words in god's ear,â you breathed into the phone as tears sprang into your eyes again. Just thinking about the results of your exam made you anxious again. And your bad councis about the women at the supermarket came back in full force making you sob.
âY/N?â Eddie asked. âWhat is it?â
You tried to suppress the tears long enough to answer him that everything was alright but you just couldnât. The next thing you know was that you bawled your eyes out and told him everything that was burdened you including the supermarket story.
âI just want to be a good person,â you sniffed after you finally calmed yourself down.
ââMaking the effort to be good is really really important. But being yourself is more important,â he answered in a caring voice. âYou need to be true to yourself and the Y/N I know is not selfish or any of the other things yut just told me. She is one of the most caring people I know. I mean look how we met.â
The thought about your first meeting almost a year ago made you laugh, while wiping the rest of the tears from your face.
âThere it is,â Eddie said. You could hear the smile in his voice. âKnew that would make you laugh.â
âThank you,â you breathed, grinning and already feeling better. Letting it all out helped wonders.
âTell you what,â Eddie began. âHow about you order us some pizza, I come over and weâre going to have a lazy night until we both fall asleep to those actions films you like to watch so much?â

I forgot that my favorite part about Queer Eye is when they first get to someoneâs house and theyâre all commenting on some aspect of that personâs life and then it just cuts to clips of Antoni digging through the fridge and either making faces of disgust or confusion

Dean was nervous. It wasnât like him to be nervous, at least not this kind. The âI am not sure I am gonna be alive tomorrowâ nervous, sure, but this was something else entirely.
Itâs weird how you can be so sure of something and still have a feeling itâs gonna blow up in your face. Thatâs how Dean was feeling. He was risking it all for a chance of happiness. The thing was he didnât get to be happy. He was a hunter and even worse a Winchester. Happy came in glimpses, it wasnât lasting and pure. This could be. So Dean was nervous. Hell, he was beyond nervous. He was downright terrified.

ONG HAVE YOU HEARD??!??? SEBASTIAN STAN IS COMING TO JIBCON đŠđŠ and I donât have a ticket omg. ALL THE BEST PEOPLE TOGETHER IN ONE PLACE đđđđđ
See I heard that but then got confused cause I always thought Jib was a SPN con?
I always found it a bit odd. Hilarious, but it raised too many questions. When did Steve make these? Why did Steve make these? How did he manage to be so cheesy and overly sincere knowing how much crap he would get from the other Avengers for it?
Well, today my sister told me her headcanon. Picture the scene. Steve leans on the back of a chair, as above. Peter immediately launches into âSo, you got detentionâŚâ. Cap blinks. Peter awkwardly tries to explain. It turns out Cap has no idea what videos he means, and neither do any of the other Avengers.
So they get in touch with the company who made them, and they swear blind that it was really the real Captain America, and that it all his idea. That he came in and said how much he wanted to help the youth of today. And the Avengers all lose it because someone is running around doing an unbelievably good impression of Captain America, they could have destroyed his reputation, they could have infiltrated the Avengers; and instead all they are apparently using it for is to make silly, embarrassing videos.
Itâs completely baffling. Who could possibly be behind it all?
Warnings: Alive!Gabriel, mention of torture, mention of the cage, mention of Michael
Authorâs Note: So I know itâs been ages since I posted something here. This was sitting in my folders waiting to be posted so here you go, guys. Even so, the polybingo is over. Thanks for Beta-reading @tngrayson.
Gabriel could feel Samâs distress from miles away.
âNightmare. Again,â he muttered to himself, sighing as he looked down the Grand Canyon. It was not that he was annoyed by Samâs nightmares. He was annoyed by the fact that he had them at all, and he hated the fact that he couldnât do anything to help. Applying is mojo on his boyfriendâs mind only helped so much and he wasnât able to do it often in fear he of further breaking it.
âOn my way, kiddo,â Gabriel murmured, spreading his wings and disappearing from the Grand Canyon in the blink of an eye.
The next moment, he appeared in the motel room Dean and Sam were sharing, his gaze immediately seeking out his boyfriend on the bed farest away from the door.
âAh hell,â he whispered as he saw the distress on Samâs face and the way his eyes moved rapidly under his eyelids. He didnât make a sound. Like always.
Gabriel sat on the edge of the bed, his hand running through Samâs hair in an attempt to calm him down.
âItâs alright, Sam. Iâm here know. Iâm sorry I took so long,â he said in a soothing voice. âCome on, kiddo. Wake up.â
It took a few minutes of Gabriel stroking Samâs hair and murmuring calming words but the taller man finally calmed down and woke up.
âGabe,â Sam whispered with a hoarse voice after his eyes found his. âYouâre here.â
âAnd I always will be, kiddo,â replied the archangel, smiling softly.
Sam reciprocated it, albeit a bit weakly, but he was just glad that he did at all.
âWanna talk about it?â Gabriel asked, slipping under the blanket with Sam to take him in his arms.
âJust the same dream I always have. Iâm always burning, crying out for Lucifer to help me and him being powerless to do anything against Michael,â he answered, sighing as he snuggled against the angel.
Gabriel said nothing. He just stroked Samâs back in a soothing manner, waiting for him to continue.
âSometimes it was like that you know? Sometimes Lucifer was trapped by the cage and could only watch as your brother tutored me. Michael was always so angry,â Sam explained further. âOther times, I remember Lucifer embracing me with his arms and wings. I remember the light and the soothing warmth he always radiated. It gave me hope. Maybe someday we would escape the cage together and finally be free to reunite with you.â
âYou are free, Sam,â Gabriel said, kissing his forehead. âAnd Iâm here.â
âBut Lucifer isnât. Heâs still in the cage with Michael. Heâs alone and suffering!â
âI know,â the angel whispered. âI wish every second of everyday that I could do something to help him, but I canât. Iâm sorry.â The cage was made impenetrable after Sam got out, even for an archangel. It hurt that he could do nothing for his brother.
âItâs not your fault, you donât have to apologize,â Sam responded softly, planting a kiss on Gabrielâs cheek.
They lay there in silence for a while, each lost in their own thoughts.
âI miss him,â Samâs voice broke the stillness in the room.
âMe too,â Gabriel answered, hugging him tighter to him. âOne day, weâll have him back with us. I promise.â
âI hope that day will come sooner rather than later.â
âMaybe it will come quicker than we think,â Gabriel said, his eyes going upwards.
âPlease father, bring him back to us. Lucifer doesnât deserve to trapped in the cage forever. Hasnât he suffered enough? Please. I beg you. We need him with us.â

I think the best piece of character design advice I ever received was actually from a band leadership camp I attended in june of 2017.Â
the speaker there gave lots of advice for leadersâobviously, it was a leadership campâbut his saying about personality flaws struck me as useful for writers too.Â
he said to us all âyour curses are your blessings and your blessings are your cursesâ and went on to explain how because he was such a great speaker, it made him a terrible listener. he could give speeches for hours on end and inspire thousands of people, but as soon as someone wanted to talk to him one on one or vent to him, he struggled with it.Â
he had us write down our greatest weakness and relate it to our biggest strength (mine being that I am far too emotional, but Iâm gentle with others because I can understand their emotions), and the whole time people are sharing theirs, my mind was running wild with all my characters and their flaws.
previously, I had added flaws as an after thought, as in âthis character seems too perfect. how can I make them not-like-that?â but thatâs not how people or personalities work. for every human alive, their flaws and their strengths are directly related to each other. you canât have one without the other.
is your character strong-willed? that can easily turn into stubbornness. is your character compassionate? maybe they give too many chances. are they loyal? then theyâll destroy the world for the people they love.
it works the other way around too: maybe your villain only hates the protagonistâs people because they love their own and just have a twisted sense of how to protect them. maybe your antagonist is arrogant, but theyâll be confident in everything they do.
tl;dr âyour curses are your blessings, and your blessings are your cursesâ there is no such thing as a character flaw, just a strength that has been stretched too far.
This is such a fabulous flip side of what Iâve always known about villians. That their biggest weakness is that they always assume their own motivations are the motives of others.
I call upon the fan fic writing gods to bless you with the perseverance to finish one of your unfinished drafts.Â
May your fingers dance along the letters upon your device with ease, may the devil of distraction stay far from you, and may your work not need much editing.
I pass this blessing upon every fan fic writer out there.
