I am a Christian and I’ll never lose my faith in God, but I am ashamed of Christian Privilege and it’s attitude of entitlement.

Christian Privilege is when Christians choose to preach horrible things about the LGBTQA+ community while boasting that they are not afraid of causing offense.

Firstly, it’s their privilege and entitled attitude which leads them to believe that these homophobic sermons only cause a few hurt feelings and blinds them to reality that people are discriminated against, disowned, threatened, attacked, thrown out of their homes, even killed, not to mention inflicting religious trauma upon the targets of such abuse.

It’s their privilege which allows them to take zero responsibility for what they preach. They don’t care and they don’t want others to care.

Secondly, their entitled attitude makes them want to dictate what is acceptable or not in society. They desire for everyone - religious or not - to follow their moral codes.

According to them, anyone who doesn’t fit their idea of “normal” or “acceptable” must be unacceptable to God. It’s not that difficult to find a Bible verse to back up any -phobic attitude of the person’s choosing.

We need to remember that Jesus told us not to judge one another, so it really isn’t our place to tell others how to live their lives. It’s not our job. It’s not our right.

We need to remember that Jesus used both words and actions to teach us to be humble and to love and serve one another. He was willing to love and serve others and so should we.

We could start by saying no to homophobia and transphobia within the Christian community and calling it out when we see it. This is our responsibility.
