there is a bts extra on the lars and the real girl blu-ray (the real story of lars and the real girl), at the end of which ryan gosling says this about lars:
"What I admire about him is that he makes a choice to love... something. And I like the idea that you can love something that doesn't necessarily have to love you back. It doesn't need to be a transaction. Something you can just give."
and i'm just-- ???? what a profound way to look at lars's character and his feelings towards bianca. to see something pure and profound and admirable in these feelings born from a delusion
i was linked this interesting interview [x] with gosling by @nonbinarygooseling and i love how he reiterates those same sentiments here:
"But when I read the whole [script], I found myself crying, I was so connected to it I couldn't believe this writer took me on this trip, made me care about these people, made me care about this doll who became a woman to me as I read this script. It became romantic to me about this guy who loves, and makes this choice to love and doesn't need to be loved in return, doesn't compromise his hopes to be with someone. He just has all this love to give and he gives it."
