I would love to say something quirky but I just miss this guy so much.
Would you believe Ace is one of my favs? 😁
after spending the evening working on the next Gilded chapter, i have a new set of connected goals:
knock out one (1) Gilded scene tomorrow (Wednesday)
knock out one (1) Gilded scene the day after (Thursday)
edit and post the chapter sometime this weekend
it's really close to being done, and two or three more sessions of focused work should be enough to finish it!
OH MY GOD IT'S NEARLY HERE?!?!
Oh my god it's nearly here.

anyway the thing about fanfic is that it's not essentially bad or good; it's essentially amateur. some people are absolutely out there writing award-worthy prose (some fic writers ARE award-winning writers IRL!), but that's not the point. the point is that we're all telling campfire stories. it's a community, and it's a way to spend some more time in the worlds and stories that we love.
Is this Marine Hunter Mihawk?!?? SHUT UP I LOVE ITTTTTTT
I need this generation to get a lot more love because look at him.
fanfic writers and fan artists are carrying fandoms. they are the backbone of fandoms.
thank you fanfic writers and fan artists

I love reading your take on Donquixote Doflamingo and whether he’s capable of love, especially from your “Director’s Cut” writer meme post.
I do believe he is. I think a good example of him purely loving someone was his mother.
With his mother, there are hints of genuine attachment. As a child, before his worldview fully hardened, he seemed capable of forming a bond. Her death—and the suffering he watched her endure through illness beforehand—likely shaped his later emotional detachment. That early connection could be seen as a more “pure” form of love, before his personality fully developed into what we see later.
I also believe that, at the very least, he genuinely believed he loved his brother, Donquixote Rosinante, but his version of love was deeply conditional at that point in his life:
• Loyalty mattered more than emotional connection
• Betrayal (in his eyes) erased any bond—even though, from my perspective, he did seem hesitant to pull the trigger at first
• In the end, his need for control outweighed care
This interpretation becomes even stronger when you consider how Doflamingo views loss.
He doesn’t just lose people—he believes what he loved was taken from him. His mother’s death, the loss of his status as a Celestial Dragon, and his fall from privilege all stem, in his mind, from his father’s choices. That early loss isn’t something he processes in a healthy way; instead, it hardens into resentment and a deep sense of injustice—something that is only reinforced by Trebol’s influence and grooming.
From that perspective, his worldview starts to make sense. Love, for him, becomes tied to possession and permanence—if something is taken away, it isn’t just loss, it’s theft. This helps explain why he clings so tightly to control later in life.
This is where his version of love becomes distorted. It isn’t built on mutual understanding or independence, but on loyalty, control, and belonging within his world. When those conditions are broken, love doesn’t transform—it collapses into anger and punishment.
At the core of Doflamingo’s character is a child who experienced real attachment and real loss but never developed the ability to process it. Because of that, he doesn’t stop being capable of love entirely—but what he calls love becomes possessive, conditional, and inseparable from his need for control.
So, is he capable of love?
My short answer is: yes—but only in a very specific, complicated way.
Given everything we understand about Doflamingo, whether he could “fall in love” with Saffron depends entirely on how we define love in his case.
What would draw him to Saffron?
Doflamingo is most likely to form an attachment when someone:
• Is strong, unique, or difficult to control
• Reflects or validates his worldview
• Doesn’t immediately submit to him
Saffron possesses independence, intelligence, and emotional depth, so she could absolutely draw him in—even if she doesn’t want to, as we see in your story. He tends to become fascinated with people who stand out.
But would it be love?
My answer would be yes—but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Love isn’t something that fits neatly into a box you can tick off. It’s complex and comes in many forms. From Doflamingo, it would probably look like:
• Fixation or intense obsession
• A desire to possess her rather than simply be with her
• A need for loyalty above all else
In his mind, that is love.
The key factor: loss and control
Because Doflamingo equates love with ownership and permanence, loving Saffron would likely trigger his deepest fear—losing something important again. Someone he can’t replace. He’s even admitted in the story that he doesn’t think he could simply replace her—she’s his “golden doll.”
As a result, love wouldn’t soften him—it would likely intensify his worst tendencies:
• Increased control
• Heightened possessiveness
• Overprotectiveness, to the point of being frightening (though this would likely only be triggered if her life were almost taken or she became seriously ill)
Why his “protection” would feel so intense
For Doflamingo, love and ownership are inseparable. Saffron wouldn’t simply be someone he cares about—she would be someone he believes is his. Given his belief that everything important to him is eventually taken, this creates a constant need to prevent loss.
His mindset would likely be:
• “If I control everything around her, she can’t be taken.”
• “If she stays within my world, she’s safe.”
How that would manifest
His protectiveness wouldn’t be gentle—it would be calculated and overbearing:
• Eliminating threats before they can reach her
• Monitoring her relationships and environment
• Restricting situations where she is outside his influence
• Framing control as protection (a strong example being Caleb—killed simply for making her laugh and smile)
From the outside, this could resemble devotion. In reality, it is driven by obsession, fear, and control as much as care.
Final take
Doflamingo is capable of falling in love with Saffron—but that love would be:
• Intense
• Genuine from his perspective
• Deeply obsessive and potentially destructive to anyone he perceives as a threat to her—or to his claim over her
His possessiveness would absolutely translate into extreme protectiveness. However, that protection wouldn’t come from care alone—it would stem from:
• Fear of loss
• A need for control
• A deeply rooted belief that what is “his” must never be taken again
Which makes it compelling, complex… and ultimately dangerous.
⸻
By the way, I’m the same person who asked about Saffron’s height, Doffy in his prison outfit, and wrote that little scene of Saffron going out with Ethan 🫣. I’m also a qualified counsellor.
Just to explain my “obsession” with Doflamingo—and why I love your story so much—when I was training, my class used to debate and break down fictional characters psychologically. One day, for fun, I threw Doflamingo into the mix.
At the time, I didn’t realise I’d basically dropped a nuclear bomb 😜
Only two people in my class even knew who he was, so my teacher set homework for everyone to research him and come back the following week. When we returned, the discussion turned into a full-blown meltdown—no one could agree on anything 🫣🤣… it was hilarious.
It took three full classes before we finally closed the debate… and even then, everyone still held firmly to their own psychological interpretation. He was one of the few characters we couldn’t fully pin down or agree on.
And that’s exactly why I love him—not because he’s a good person, but because he’s so complex. That complexity is what makes him fascinating to try to understand. And this is also why I love your writing style of him. You’re one of the few people I’ve come across who actually write him as the intelligent, manipulative, calculating, possessive, obsessive person he is—not just some deranged maniac, which he’s not 🙄.
⸻
No real question here, sorry 😅—I just went on a full rambling deep dive about Donquixote Doflamingo. I hope you enjoyed the chaos 😂
And apologies—I realise I structured it a bit like an assignment. Old habits die hard 😂 - sending this twice because the first time. I forgot to take out the grammar check notes. At the beginning and end. 😆
doffy reading as you psychoanalyze him to FILTHHHHH....
sibling, start runnin'
this is exactly what i meant when i said i wanted to leave the story open-ended/to not spoon-feed his emotions to the reader🥹 it's so incredibly gratifying to see someone's thoughts on his character development, especially in reaction to something i wrote! and i completely agree that he's not just some deranged maniac...there's a method to that very convoluted madness and a consistent internal logic that seems nigh inscrutable to anyone operating outside it, but YES, it's THERE!
"For Doflamingo, love and ownership are inseparable." YES YES YOU GET IT, YOU GET WHAT I'M GOING FOR OMGGGGGGGGG
"By the way, I’m the same person who asked about Saffron’s height, Doffy in his prison outfit, and wrote that little scene of Saffron going out with Ethan" --- YOU ARE MAGICAL, MY DARLING! thank you so much for the amazing asks and for sharing your writing! it's been so much fun to read your thoughts on all of these subjects and i've been so happy every time you submit something to my inbox! you are a light in my darkness and a cool wind on a hot day!
thank you again for your thoughts and generosity, not to mention your support on The Grasp of Gilded Strings...i'm working on the next chapter diligently between crises at work, and i can't wait to share it with you <3 tysmmmmmm!!!!
Hey guys imma need fanfics of this fine man
My friend do I have the best suggestion for you:
Iñaki Godoy (Luffy) and Xolo Maridueña (Ace)
Love the post, love them, someone kiss OP
My man should have been at the end of the season 😭😭😭
But also, I just realised you can hold a gif and move your finger to speed it or slow it down or reverse it.
How long has this been a thing?!?!?!?
I imagined we wouldn't get the iconic scene so I appreciate this reference and what Luffy says at the end of the episode about him living inside Laboon, but for any only opla fans possibly reading this: please, watch the original, it's considered one of the funniest scenes of the anime lmao.
My biggest complaint of the show tbh, but I get it! One pieces whimsy is just too powerful for the live action screen.
But damn the people are missing out.
insane line of dialogue to drop in the first episode of the season titled "the beginning and the end" which is about the ways in which luffy's story mirrors that of roger's. the same roger whose story ended in that exact place after he sailed to laugh tale where he learned the story of what happened during the void century. *taps mic* IS THIS THING ON???
Buggy being that guy. He knows, he knows, he friggen nose (hehe)
He was a Roger pirate, he was on that journey even if he didn’t make it all the way. Buggy understands the world just the same as Shanks does with all his secrets and the way he chooses how and when to act.
He fundamentally understands what it means to be a pirate and it was there the entire time. I’m so glad we get to see him like this, the stocks just keep rising 📈📈📈

NO ONE in my vicinity is the least bit excited about OPLA season 2
It’s actually so depressing 🫠
Why you should share your Writing <3
All valid thoughts but have you considered that it makes me wanna throw up?
