I've been noticing that alternatives to mainstream services have responded to the problems of predictive algorithms (data harvesting, echo chambers and radicalization funnels, generic content, hidden advertising, platforms pushing algorithmic content in a way that can't be switched off) by just not doing predictive algorithms at all.
