Based on the beautiful theory of @angelofashes that you can find here (go give some love), I adore this fic for more than one reason, but, especially, because it's based on one of my favorite scenes of the whole show (and sterek). And it shows that suicid*l side of Derek that not a lot of people write about.

Which is crazy to me since the guy looks like he's been waiting to die since he was 15. I'm surprised he didn't outright break down in the show or tried to off himself in a more directive way than just throwing himself in a losing battle.

I also didn't really like how they handled the whole Kate thing in s4 (cause yeah, let's show to the protagonist how much of a groomer Kate is and still don't acknowledge it! Great idea! Let's traumatize Derek Hale for the umpteenth time!) the only time in the whole s4 where someone else acknowledge how bad Derek's life is, it's Stiles's talking with Scott, after Scott lied about the fire, and said and I quote "We'll figure this out in a day or two, he goes back to being old Derek, everyone's happy. Except for Derek, who's never happy.", and that's. Well, not fucking enough. Like, seriously. No one bats an eye or comments that a grown ass woman kissed a kid and kidnapped him? Not even as a cruel joke like they sometimes do!? Nothing? Wow

(I did like how Derek ended up standing in front of her while she's down, cause yeah, that's a parallel to how things were reversed back in season 1, and although she deserved way worse, at least Derek finally found peace with what she did, it definitely felt karmatic seeing her down, looking down on her, finally on top)

(I think this actually just hit 10k hits but shhhh)

go walk into your dawn by @astronomical-fog (9.9k, T) - ilya invites cliff over to tell him he’s moving to ottawa. usually read cliff as a silly character so this is a very nice exploration of cliff having genuine emotions about his bestie and captain leaving the team and revealing a massive secret.

Enough by @complicatedsquishy (25k, T, locked) - shane is worried he’s not a good omega for ilya and tries to fix himself, not realizing just how distressing that is for ilya. love fics where shane gets to be a non-traditional omega, and this one is special bc he doesn’t hate his gender, he’s just worried about how ilya will feel

things that go bump in the night by orangemoons (29k, M) - shane hunts feral vampires, ilya is a vampire who sometimes swoops in to help, and they can’t stop sleeping together. but there are greater forces than they realize trying to keep them apart. honestly i went a little feral over this fic. the plot is so juicy and i am flabbergasted it isn’t more popular, this fandom is sleeping on supernatural aus!! (heed the tags, this does get dark at parts)

Compromised by @ggfj84 (30k, M) - shane is a secret agent captured by the russian mafia and ilya is tasked with extracting info from him. this is complicated by the fact they are in a relationship and in love. intrigue! suspense! plot twists! this fic kept me on the edge of my seat (heed the tags)

i pay attention to things that most people ignore by @extendedpl4y (4.9k, T) - hayden realizes lily is ilya all on his own. i usually read (and write) fics with hayden as a dumbass so this is a nice change and very sweet!

In Sickness and In Health by gnomey2001 (5.5k, E) - shane gets the stomach flu after fleeing the tuna meltdown and so do all the raiders. shane is stuck in boston when the game is canceled, and ilya takes care of him. i love a post-tuna meltdown fix it and really enjoyed how everything was resolved.

slow motion, love potion by @delsicle (6.8k, E) - sex worker ilya is hired by shane in sochi during the winter olympics so he can experiment with a man. hot, sweet, and sad all at once. lovely writing
