Stuff like this always makes me remember how sensationalized the “hide your kids, hide your wife” video was, also known as the “bedroom intruder meme” 🗿.
The guy was clearly one of the earliest memes of a black person expressing frustration publicly (it was a news report of the man explaining how he’d run off a predator trying to rape his sister by the way) but in a “funny way” (the way that nbs and whites find entertaining at least because they don’t see black trauma as something that should be given grace, and shown empathy right from the very start over their own intial enjoyment because that’s no fun), and something like this became a huge joke. Like, this meme was literally everywhere in the early 2000’s, and I think people forgot that his sister was almost raped 🧍🏾♀️…………………………..!

the white boy of the month pushing his hair back and reading poetry for the camera is not the equivalent of the dehumanization of women in visual media by way of presenting them primarily as vessels for sexual gratification
there's a family of local sandhill cranes that adopted an abandoned goose last summer and they're STILL together today even after migration.... i love them + they're local celebrities + nature is beautiful
If you are receiving a warning that your password has appeared in a data breach from another site and is no longer secure, you will need to change your password to a stronger one before you can log back in.
If you are still logged in on any device, please make sure your email address is up to date before logging out or resetting your password, or you may lose access to your account.
Check below the cut for information on how to check or update your email address, and how to change or reset your password.
Posted: 20:45 UTC 31 July, 2026
Please follow these steps to check and update your email address. If you don't know your password, or if your password is insecure, you will need to reset your password – which requires you to have access to your account's email address.
How do I check what my account’s email address is?
If you are logged in:
Go to your Preferences page (Select "Hi, [USERNAME]!" at the top of the page, and choose "My Preferences" from the drop-down list)
Click on the “Change Email” button at the top of the page
Your email address will be listed on that page, next to “Current email”
If you are not logged in:
Check your email account for recent emails from AO3, such as subscription notifications or kudos and comment emails.
Look at the “To:” field to see what email address is associated with your account.
You will need to enter this email address exactly as it is listed here in order to receive a password reset email.
How do I change my email address? What if I don't have access to my old email address?
You don't need access to your old email address to change it to a new one, as long as you also know your current password.
Go to your Preferences page (Select "Hi, [USERNAME]!" at the top of the page, and choose "My Preferences" from the drop-down list)
Click on the “Change Email” button at the top of the page
In both the “New email” and “Enter new email again” fields, enter an email address that you have access to
In the “Password” field, enter your current password
Click the “Confirm Email” button
On the next page, make sure that the banner displays the correct new email address
Click the "Yes, Confirm Email" button
Check your new email address for an email titled “[AO3] Confirm your email change”
Click on the confirmation link in that email, making sure to open it in a browser where you are already logged in
Go to the “Change Email” page and double-check that your “Current email” has been successfully updated.
If you still see the banner saying your email change is pending, the most likely reason for this is that you were logged out before you clicked the confirmation link. Make sure to log in to your account before following the email confirmation link, or open the link in a browser where you are already logged in.
I know my current password, but I'm afraid my password is insecure. How can I change my password to a stronger one?
First, refer to the above instructions for checking or updating your email address, so that you can receive a password reset in case your password is insecure. Then:
Go to your Preferences page (Select "Hi, [USERNAME]!" at the top of the page, and choose "My Preferences" from the drop-down list)
Click on the “Change Password” button at the top of the page
Enter your current password into the “Old password” field
Enter your new password into both the “New password” and “Confirm new password” fields
Click the “Change Password” button
You will be automatically logged out on all devices.
If, upon logging in, you receive a message saying your password is insecure, then the new password you chose was insecure and you can't use it to log back in. You will need to reset your password (refer to the below instructions) and select a more secure password this time. You can use a password generator to choose a stronger password.
I don't know my current password/my password is insecure, but I know and have access to my account's email address.
In a private/incognito browser, go to the Reset Password page: https://archiveofourown.org/users/password/new (also available by clicking the “Forgot Password?” link on the login form)
Enter the email address associated with your AO3 account
Check your email for the password reset email
Click the “use this link to create a new password” link in the email
Enter a new, secure password
You will be automatically logged in on this device, and automatically logged out on all other devices.
If you continue to receive the message that your password is insecure, then the new password you chose was also insecure. You will need to reset your password again and select a more secure password this time. You can use a password generator to choose a stronger password.
I tried resetting my password, but it didn't work. Help?
The most likely reasons the password reset didn't work are:
You are entering the wrong email address for your AO3 account. Refer to the above instructions on how to check what your account's email address is.
Your email provider is blocking emails from AO3 or sending them to spam/social folders. Search for an email titled “[AO3] Reset your password”.
Your email account doesn't have enough storage and can't receive new emails. You'll need to delete old emails, photos, or videos to empty your storage before requesting a password reset.
You requested multiple password resets in a short time period, resulting in either a “Retry later” page or the link in the first password reset email becoming invalid. Please wait at least one hour before trying again, only submit the form once, and make sure you are using the link in the most recent password reset email.
The new password you chose was insecure, so you can't use it to log back in. You will need to reset your password again and select a more secure password this time. You can use a password generator to choose a stronger password.
I don't know my password/my password is insecure, and I don't know or have access to my account's email address.
You will need to submit a Support ticket containing the following information:
your username
your account’s current email address (if you know it)
an email address that you can access and would like to update your account's email to (enter this email into the Email field so we can contact you)
Support will begin the account recovery process with you, which will ask you for further proof of account ownership. Please be patient, as there are many AO3 users who are also submitting account recovery tickets right now.

I said I’d share more of dad’s art so here we go. This was just some of the stuff downstairs, I’ll need to dig out the rest.
Some of them are water colors, some of them are oils, some of them are replicas of existing paintings that he did for my mother because she liked them. I’ve covered up his name because I’m not about to doxx my dying father, lol. But if anyone does recognize his art from various galleries across Glasgow, zip it.🤐
Sorry the lighting isn’t that great. It was overcast outside and apparently half the bulbs in this house need replaced.
These were some of the paintings and sketches he drew for my nursery growing up. There’s a Lion King one somewhere that I’ll need to find and dig out, but he read Peter Pan to me so many times as a child he can still quote the opening chapter from the original J. M. Barrie, so he did hundreds of Peter Pan paintings for me. I think this is the only one that survived.
He also did a lot of boats and landscapes, as well as taking us to the old Museum of Transport in the west end of Glasgow to sketch the old buses, cars, trams, you name it. He sketched it.
I’m struggling to find a lot of his still life pictures but I suspect they are in the dreaded attic. More to follow in the reblog.
(7/30/26) The Red Cross just declared the second US blood crisis in its history.
Summer sees both a drop off in donations and, at least for our trauma center, a spike in traumas. Trauma centers across the US are in danger of running out of blood for our trauma patients TODAY, which is very scary but, unlike much of the other scary national news coming across our screens these days, is something you can help fix immediately and directly.
We need ASAP donations of blood, for people to spread the word, and for manager types to help facilitate others' donations. All blood types are needed, but universal donor blood (type O) is especially dire.
Many things that previously made people ineligible have been rolled back. If you previously thought you were ineligible, please consider checking current guidelines!
While O- is the most dire need as it can be safely given to anyone in an emergency, all types are needed! Our emergent release blood is being pulled for patients who have a high chance of death if they don't get blood within the hour. Once they're stabilized, they can have their type confirmed and get blood of a specific, matching type released to them so that O- can go to the patients who need it most.
Canada is also in a blood shortage, not just the US. Even if you're not in the USA or Canada, maybe check locally, especially if it's summer where you are.
There was this time I was 14 and I went on a school trip. It was a few months before my PTSD kicked in and I became very depressed and secluded, and at the time despite having been bullied for years before I was somewhat 'popular': I had a couple of different friend groups and I talked to everybody. I remember I went around hanging out with many different people that day at different moments. At one point of the school trip I was with three old friends of mine that were on the nerdier side compared to some others. We were walking behind a group of boys and girls that basically considered themselves the 'cool kids' (two bullies and the spectators). And I saw that, on the back of her shirt, one of the girls had a huge bug, the most disgusting one I'd ever seen in my life. So I went up to her, tapped her shoulder and warned her, said "Hey [Redacted], just so you know you have a bug on your shirt". You know, basic kindness. And then the idiots started giggling as if they couldn't believe that I, the weird girl, was actually talking to her. The girl thanked me but giggled like a dumbass too. I just shrugged and turn around and then burst out laughing when they started screaming. I still do every time I remember them. Deserved lmao

Comments like these seem extremely disingenuous to me, sorry. Like yeah, there are ways to translate the general concept of "elf druid" into VtM. And yes, it's generally a good thing to try to meet your players where they're at, especially if they're new to the game, but also I don't think you have a responsibility or moral obligation to go out of your way to do that to acomodate a player who clearly has no interest in doing the tiniest attempt on his part to meet the game (that HE signed up to play) where it's at.
Like if I as a player signed up to someone's D&D game after years of playing, say, Troika, and then showed up to the table wanting to play my favorite Troika background in their D&D campaign regardless of how well it fits (or doesn't fit) with their setting fluff, I think it's a totally reasonable expectation that I as a player should at the very least have done the work myself of converting that background into something that can work in D&D. If I just show up to the game like "I'm going to play a Zoanthrop" expecting the GM to figure out how to accomodate it, that is nothing short of a complete refusal to even attempt to engage with the game, the campaign, the setting, the GM, and the other players on their own terms, and it would be completely reasonable and not indicative of any personal flaw for the GM to refuse to coddle that by not going out of their way to figure out how to make my background from a completely unrelated game work in D&D.
TL,DR: Why should the GM "meet the player where he's at" when the player is completely refusing to even try to do the same from his side?
You're glossing over something important here: The player signed up for a game. Then, the player was given information about the game he signed up for. And then, the player actively ignored that information to make something that does not at all work with the information that was provided, heck, not even the system being played.
...and those tags are painting the GM as the bad guy for "explaining a bunch of setting fluff the player wasn't interested in"?
If you sign up for a game, it's reasonable to assume that you want to be informed about what kind of game it is. And if you aren't... just fucking say something? Like, there are these things called words, that adults use to communicate their thoughts to each other. Like, obviously, the player here thought OP would be running D&D. If he had actually listened, he'd have noticed that it isn't D&D, and could have politely declined. Instead, he obviously didn't listen, and that's somehow the GM's fault?
Yeah, like treating Vampire: the Masquerade's (a game that is not D&D) lore as "setting fluff" instead of like the whole premise of a different non-D&D game kind of betrays this point of view that D&D is the default and every other RPG is just a weird quirky variant of D&D, an extremely ignorant and myopic point of view which we should just meet with derision. Like, sorry not sorry, but this is not a case of the GM spouting some fluff that the player didn't care about, and the fact that this person thinks so is frankly embarrassing.
Also, even for 5e games, why is the expectation that a GM "meet the player where they're at" while the player tuning out "setting fluff" they "don't care about" is acceptable, when the player brings a build that explicitly does not work with the setting?
That “setting fluff the player wasn't interested in” is the game. The player isn’t interested in the game. That’s okay, but it’s not the GM’s job to try to entice an uninterested person by completely changing the game they and the rest of the players are looking forward to
Also, and I'm not a TTRPG person myself so I might be wrong here, but I'm under the impression that it's a medium that relies heavily on players working together within the structure of the game to create a story and have a good time enjoyed by all.
So when someone shows up and then demonstrates overt disinterest in the structure of the game, the story being told, the other players, or the basic concept of working together, I think it's a good idea to maybe hit the brakes on ushering them into your circle of trust.
they teach you the golden rule, treat others how you want to be treated, but in a pinch you can apply the silver rule (be kinda selfish because you’ve earned it) or even the bronze rule (manipulate others purely for your benefit).
writing a canon divergent fix-it fic while also shaking my head to show that i actually really like the canon's tragic narrative and am not trying to say i think it would be better if canon was like this
Emergency cleaning: Unfuck your whole house in the shortest time possible
So, your landlord/parents/home inspector/favorite movie star is dropping by, and your place is a disaster. You don’t have much time to clean it up. You’re in emergency mode. Let’s get started.
Don’t panic. Panic leads to fear, fear leads to procrastination, procrastination leads to the dark side. You can do this, but you have to stay calm.
Unlike maintenance cleaning, we’re not looking to completely unfuck one space at a time. Instead, we want to decrease the overall mess in stages, spread evenly across the whole area that we’re concerned about. If you think your home is at Level 10 filth, we want to bring the whole thing down to a Level 9, and then down from there. One really clean spot in an otherwise messy home is not going to be helpful here.
Get prepared. You’ll want to shut the computer down (or turn the modem off if you need your computer to play music). Trust me. Get your music going. Gather up trash bags, your vacuum and mop, some rags or paper towel, sponges, and other cleaning supplies. Use what you have on hand. Don’t get distracted running to the store and spending an hour browsing cleaning supplies. A multi-purpose cleaning concentrate or a jug of vinegar will be just fine.
Breaks are very important. Depending on your time constraints, work in 20/10s (20 minutes working, 10-minute break) or 45/15s. But take breaks because otherwise you’re marathoning, and marathon cleaning is no one’s friend. Keep hydrated, don’t forget to eat, and check in with yourself frequently to make sure you’re physically doing OK.
Make your bed. This will be your home base if you get overwhelmed or need somewhere clear to take a break.
Start with the garbage. Going from room to room, throw out anything that is obvious trash. Once you fill a bag, take it out. Repeat as many times as necessary.
Move on to dishes. Gather the dishes from all over your house and bring them to the kitchen. If you can, start them soaking in a sink of hot, soapy water or start loading the dishwasher. After the dishes are all in one place, spend one 20/10 getting started getting them under control.
Now it’s time for your flat surfaces. Countertops, tables, dresser tops, etc. Clear them off and wipe them down. Don’t get distracted in too much sorting and organizing. We’re in crisis mode here. There will be time to get in-depth once this is all done. The same applies to cabinets and closets. Unless you have reason to believe people will be opening closed doors, leave these alone for now.
Attack the floordrobe and shoe pile. Get your clothes either put away or in the hamper. Start a load of laundry if you need to, but keep in mind that laundry and dishes have three steps: wash, dry, and put it away, goddammit!
Get random stuff up off the floors. If something is trash-worthy, throw it away now rather than just move it around a bunch of times. Otherwise, put stuff where it belongs.
Take another 20/10 or 45/15 to catch up on more dishes, if needed.
Head into the bathroom. Pour some cleaner in the toilet bowl, fill the sink with hot water and cleaner, and either spray the tub and shower with cleaner, or fill the tub up with some hot water and add cleaner and let it soak. Put everything away that’s out and shouldn’t be, clean the mirror, counters, and toilet seat. Sweep or dry mop the floor. Wipe down the sink and tub/shower, and give the toilet bowl a scrub. Mop the floor.
Sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
Vacuum everything you can, and sweep everything you can’t.
Walk outside of your house (don’t lock yourself out, please). Walk back in and see what catches your eye first. Go and deal with that.
If you’re being inspected or your landlord is coming in for repairs, spend time on whatever area they’ll be focusing on.
Give the whole place one more once-over and pay attention to anything you’ve missed so far.
It’s an old trick, but if your place is a little funky-smelling, put a pan of water on the stove on low heat and add some citrus or cinnamon or vanilla. Don’t leave it unattended or forget about it.
Take a shower, put on something clean, and eat something.
You can do this. It’s overwhelming, yes, but it is not impossible. You just need to do it. You have a list. You have directions. You have a whole bunch of Internet strangers who have been there before and who are cheering you on. You can do this, but you need to get started.
the number of times in my past that I desperately wanted/needed someone to sit me down and tell me this stuff. I will never get back the hours and hours lost to headless-chicken mode, but it’s nice to know that in the last year I’ve learned so many coping mechanisms :D

Saw a truck with a big sign that said Bred Last on it. Read it in English and thought "do I want to know how trucks breed?" but then mom said it in Swedish.
"rickrolling is mean" rickrolling is the gentle, kind, prosocial descendant of what we used to do on the internet, which was putting a redirect to goatse in every possible misspelling of a url
