imo the way you feel about groups it's fully socially acceptable to hate (like children or polyamorous people, among others) is the canary in the coal mine for underlying bigoted beliefs. if you're only supportive of marginalized groups when it's cool to do so, probably you don't actually care about marginalized groups, you care about other people thinking you care

Like. There is a significant gap between 'a lot of studies do not take into account variations caused by things like female hormone cycles, which can limit how generalisable they are' and 'medical science does not apply to women', and the latter just seems to create a situation rife for bad faith actors and snake oil salesmen to reassure you that actually, THEY have the answers, because THEY listen to women, and if you simply pay them for their online subscription service-

This is a post about trans men and how transmisogyny does affect them (but in a transfeminist way). Also this is not centering men in my conversations on transfeminism, I just constantly post about women and will give one moment to talk about men.
A lot of the inherently transmisogynistic rhetoric that spews forth from the transmasc community is really driven by self hatred ngl. Like let's not pretend that a trans man saying "yeah haha sex and gender are different and you can never change your sex" isn't saying something horrible about himself in the process even if he follows it with the "-which is why trans women are dangerous".
What do you mean sex is immutable? Do you think that your entire identity is cosplay? If you do, then that in itself is the direct result of your own internalized transphobia and transmisogyny justifying denying your own sexual identity to get one up on trans women. If it isn't cosplay, then do you simply think you'll never be a "male"? That I'll never be a "female"? That these are things we can chase but never embody? Even with modern medicine that can alter the human body in all ways to match a sexual identity besides gene editing (and even that's on the cusp of being tackled).
This idea that having manhood in your life intrinsically ties you to every criticism of men on a personal level is rooted in liberalism, frankly. By positioning the female as the oppressed on the virtue of sex prior to transitioning, it creates a framework in which you must either acknowledge your own maleness upon transitioning and recognize the privilege that comes with it and work to undermine it, or you must cling to femaleness and completely discount any modicum of indication that you have priveleges over trans women.
Almost every trans men I've ever met who has been a transfeminist and recognizes his role in transmisogyny and the dismantling thereof, has been a leftist, not a liberal. Because liberals believe in faux-justice politic that centers suffering as atonement rather than rehabilitation and growth as atonement.
Liberal trans men believe they must suffer to atone if they receive power that allows them to hurt others, so it's simply better to never acknowledge that power even at the cost of your own self love and affirmation of identity.
Leftist trans men on the other hand believe that, every person has misogyny in them and their role as oppressor or oppressed is complicated and by being a man, he intrinsically has power over transgender women; but that is not something he views as a thing to be punished, but rather weaponized against transmisogyny to protect trans women.
Many of the trans men who cling to the idea that they'll never not be female do so because they were raised into the idea as a child/teen/ young adult that assigned femaleness makes one the oppressed class, and often either ran in terf circles or wer ambivalent to terfs at best. That's why you can see many of these men either outright reject the idea that they can ever hold power and focus on "afab only spaces", misuse the word terf to describe trans women who are transfeminist because they don't understand what biological essentialism means, or worse, continue to run in terf circles as a trans man. The last of which is unfortunately a semi-common occurrence especially in the UK.

You can’t call yourself a leftist if you hate children tbh, like you can choose not to have them or be around them, but outright hating the most marginalised group of people in the world who have absolutely no power or control over the most basic parts of their lives and bodies is a dangerous mentality to have and you need to grow the fuck up and get out of your edgy phase and start treating everyone around you like human beings, even the ones that piss you off.
Like the older I get, the more empathy I have for children. Imagine living on this planet for less than a decade and having to figure out every single thing from scratch, only for the people around you to treat you like a living doll and constantly invalidate your feelings because you haven’t learned how to express them beyond screaming at the top of your lungs, like you’d be having meltdowns in the grocery store as well. The least you can do is offer them some grace, everything is so fucking confusing and scary and overwhelming and they’re not able to communicate that properly and no one around them is explaining shit, and they are constantly at the mercy of whether or not the terrifyingly giant adults around them CHOOSE to be kind like genuinely put yourself in the situation of a child and tell me you wouldn’t also be freaking the fuck out.
The way society treats children is borderline inhumane, and you have the audacity to call them hellspawn crotch-goblins for screaming a little bit too loud or daring to be in the same vicinity as you.
I do also believe that hating children is a sign of underlying ableism, because most of the justifications of hating children comes down to “they’re annoying” or “they don’t know how to act” or “they’re gross” and if you are unable to treat people who lack social skills, who make loud or repetitive noises, who are incontinent etc. with basic respect and dignity, then what’s the difference between hating children and hating disabled adults that share the traits you find so irritating?
I would actually go as far as to say that MOST abuse is unintentional. I think most people will go through their lives without ever experiencing intentional abuse. People are abusive because they're selfish, because they're stressed, because they care more about what society thinks they should do than the impacts of their actions on their children and partners, because they think what they're doing is correct, because they've made it make sense in their own heads, because they think they can fix their victims, they think they can fix their relationships, they think they can stop you from leaving, they think they can make you a better partner to them, they think that means you need to do what they want. We've sort of constructed mental illness in a way that doing this shit to other people counts as a form of mental illness because it is anti social behavior in the literal sense— it is behavior that causes social harm.
I don't say any of this to excuse it. I think everyone needs to be more aware of this because if you think abuse has to be intentional you will never realize you are capable of abusive behavior. You will never realize you are being shitty to the people you love, because YOU know what you mean, YOU know you don't mean any harm. But you're doing harm. You need to pay attention to the impact you have on other people, and you need to do it all the time, Especially when you feel least capable of doing so. Sorry! You live in a society. Get your head out of your ass.
i get why people don't believe in marriage as a social construct but legally it is the best and easiest way to say "this is who i trust to take care of me when i can't take care of myself" and i'm so glad gay people fought for that right bc when shit gets scary at least i know im in good hands
