reblog to get a perfect 1600 on your SATs
Reaper is almost here meaning it’s time to start rereading Ember and Torch, and by rereading I mean reread every single part where Laia and Elias are having a moment and ignoring literally everything else
writing tip #1088:
make your characters successful to make up for the fact that you’re not
There’s a kid named Elias in my Algebra class and I’m just waiting to ask him if he has a girlfriend named Laia.

Me: *wants to be like all of the strong, powerful characters I read about*
Also me: *can’t even handle the coldest setting in the shower*
“… how difficult it was to run on the sand.”
“I began this book with the intention of writing a brief article on the ideology of French workers during the Revolution of 1848.”
A neighbor of the Thenardiers met this mother on the street after she had left her child, and she came in, saying, “I have just met a woman in the street, who was crying as if her heart would break.”
… well that’s uplifting
“Perhaps he hopes that his ugly face will frighten off attackers, eh?”
“And so at once, taking no more time for rest,”
‘Then, if you like, over a quiet cup, you can tell me all the ghastly details.’
And quite soon after that Alec and Jerry came back from their walk, and with the ice broken we got down to the serious briefing.
“These are my friends, my family. People I know. I wouldn’t hurt them.”
Immigrant (2), a poem. When your parents or guardians bring you to America as a child, you have no control. You just go where the adults decide you go. Your country, your home, is where they are. Rescinding DACA would mean that 800,000 people who had no choice about whether to come to America or not would be punished for something that was never in their control in the first place.
Why do teenage boys think everything is about them? Like I was dissing your school. Why are you bringing up the past??? It wasn’t supposed to be a roast???????? I don’t care enough about you to do that????????????????
Elias: The stars are so beautiful tonight.
Helene: Yeah, they are.
Elias: You know who else is beautiful?
Helene: *blushes* Who?
Elias: Laia.

Tell the story of Sabaa Tahir liking your name
Okay wow, so first of all, I can’t believe that someone actually paid attention to my rant, and better yet the tags, second of all, wow that someone actually wants to hear about me and my boring life. You’re so kind for asking, this doesn’t happen often. Third of all, it all happened at the National Book Festival where I went to get my copy of An Ember in the Ashes signed. This book is freaking amazing, let me tell you that. I finished one morning and was freaking out because I didn’t have A Torch Against the Night, so I promptly got the e-book and finished by nightfall. Words cannot begin to describe how great it is. Sorry to have digressed from the topic. So I wandered around to the back of the book signing line where a nice volunteer asked me if I wanted my book personalized and of course I was like heck yeah. So she instructed me to write my name down on a sticky note and stick it on the second title page. I did, and then the line started moving, and the closer I got, the more my heart started to pound. I couldn’t tell if that was normal. I guess not? I don’t know. And before I knew it, it was my turn. She said, “Hi, how are you?” like any nice person, and then she said, “You have a very pretty name. How do you pronounce it?” And I told her, “Sagun. (Suh-goon)” while surprising myself because I wasn’t as flustered as I could have been. Like if an augur could read my mind, all they would hear would be OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY FREAKING GOD. Then she smiled and asked if she could keep the sticky note because she likes keeping the names of some of the people she meets at book signings. At that point, I could only nod and say thank you as I left the line. it took me a while to process and by the time I did, I had to refrain myself from screaming. Once I made my way to my mother, I thanked her for naming me. Maybe she says that to everyone and I’m just making a big deal about nothing, but my name is kind of unique, I know because I can never find my name in a gift shop, and has always a breeding ground for unwanted nicknames, and it has never been called pretty, so I feel just that much special.
I wore the black one!!! Thank you guys for all your input, you are the best!!! Had a blast at the National Book Festival Gala with @authormelissadelacruz , @marieluthewriter and @nicolayoon. You might see a cameo from the incredible David McCullough!!! If you’re coming to the festival, hope to see you guys tomorrow, 1030, room 202!!!!
Okay so I know this is kind of cheesy, but I feel so very happy that she wore this. In Southern Asia, there are a lot of traditional-ish clothing types and I know, because I am Nepali, that a lot of people want to get rid of their roots and replace them with more western things, I know because for a while I was embarrassed by my own kurtas, and it sucks now that I think about it. I’ve noticed even in Bollywood, a lot of stars have swapped out saris and kurtas for ball gowns, and they look amazing, but it’s not the same. It means a lot to be in America and see someone else wear something that I would, though a majority of my clothing is jeans and sweatshirts, I do love each of my kurtas. I actually got my book signed by her, but I was too busy freaking out to notice, so I’m going to freak out about this now.
Maybe this is a random question, but how do you pronounce Laia and Elias's names? I've been saying them like LIE-ah and EL-ee-ahs, but I don't know
Whoops yeah LIe-ah is right and Ee-Lie-us is right. So NOT El-ee-us. Sorry didn’t read carefully the first time
You have to pronounce both of their names with “lie” which so obviously means that they are meant to be and makes sense that they are one of my favorite ships. Duh.
i’ve waited a whole year to finally reblog this
Been in my queue for a year
SEND THIS TO SOMEONE WITH NO CONTEXT
Literally dying
@sheeplife46 this seems like something you would do
