TheĀ Minotaur was named that because he was the son of King Minos. Anyone with a bull head has to be named after their dad, like the Kyletaur or something.

Snippet Saturday
@softersalt tagged me for WIP Wednesday, which was actually perfect because on Monday I'd dragged out my Laertes timeloop au for the first time all year and started trying to figure out where I want to go next with this.
Even before the first leaves drift down to enrich the earth, Laertes catches the metallic tang of knowing that he doesn't get to be so happy for so long before something happens to rip that away from him. If this were happening in anyone's mind but his own, Laertes could tell them, not unkindly, that the spikes of anxiety that turn random mornings into a wall of shadow are just that - a misfiring brain trying so hard to protect him from dangers that aren't even there. Only in his case, it's not an irrational fear, because he has the evidence of the past two lives, the past two deaths, screaming at him that this equinox marks more than just the year drawing to an end. He's ignored the warning once already and now he can't stop thinking about the future and all the things he can't control.
tagging @glintglimmergleam, @tobermoriansass, @cleverclove, @goosemixtapes, and anyone else who's been working on a project and wants to share with the world! (as always, a tag is not an obligation)

I am begging people to understand that reproductive rights is as much the right to become and remain pregnant as it is to terminate a pregnancy.
Encouraging all people capable of being pregnant to get their tubes tied or get a hysterectomy isnāt the solution you think it is.
Most people who get abortions do so because they want to be able to get pregnant in the future.
Back-alley abortions often leave people unable to become pregnant again, even if they want to. Legal, safe abortion ensures that a person can terminate a pregnancy while still retaining the option and ability to become pregnant again.
PoC, disabled people, and trans and intersex people have historically been barred from the right to get pregnant and reproduce. These marginalized groups have faced sterilization and maternal mortality for a long time.
If you think reproductive justice is only about the right to *not* be pregnant, you are woefully misinformed.
Reproductive justice means people should be able to control their own bodies, whether it means ending or preventing a pregnancy, or becoming pregnant and remaining pregnant.
Reproductive justice means that healthcare providers should and must address the barriers and dangers PoC, disabled people, and trans and intersex people face when it comes to obstetrics and gynecology.
Reproductive justice means lowering the maternal mortality rate for black people in America.
Reproductive justice means not sterilizing disabled people and providing safe options for disabled people who want to become pregnant.
Reproductive justice means acknowledging that trans people may want to become pregnant and not mandating they be sterilized in order to legally transition.
Reproductive justice means not sterilizing intersex babies and children in the attempt to make them fit into a dyadic, binary sex.
Reproductive justice is not just about abortions.
I love your agreeable and amenable and flexible nature and how none of your wants and needs ever get priority and how nobody even knows what they are to begin with and how you never start or engage in conflicts and never express even mildly unsavory opinions and get along with everyone from every conceivable group, thatās so trustworthy. hey quick question. do you happen to have an enormous pressurized reservoir of rage and resentment you feel like you canāt ever analyze or express because that would break the rules for the kind of person you are and if so, do you think a lifetime of squashing it down might ever backfire?

why does the Catholic Church not simply ask a system these questions.
how they like to see themselves.
are you from/ do you live in the u.s?
Are you from/ do you live in the u.s?
Yes
No
This might be the greatest thing I have ever seen in my life
"Why do you talk so much about being intersex?"
Over 90% of parents of visibly intersex children opt for cosmetic surgery on their infants.
The ones that don't experience medical violence then, likely experience it as a teenager.
I didn't.
I am very rare in that I did not experience medical violence.
Why? Because I learned what intersexuality was as a young age, and I actively fought against what doctors wanted to do to me. All the way down to legal research on what medical care minors can be forced into. I remember walking into that doctor's appointment with the state law written down that proved that if I did not consent they could not do surgery.
That is why intersex activism is important. It saved me and it will save more.
Atleast some percentage of parents think they are doing what is best for their kids.
Without intersex individuals like OP advocating for self determination, the parents have only their own cis standard bodies and experiences to base their decisions on.
Op is helping the intersex individual and their families make better decisions.
Also, without vocal intersex individuals we can be lied to about the occurrence of any trait. If they can make you feel like youāre the only one, they can convince you that youāre at fault. People like OP actively fight the visibility battle at every turn.

In all honesty, one of the reasons I can never buy the whole idea that TOS Starfleet in general, and Kirk in particular, are overwhelmingly defined by being modern (for the 60s) Military Guys with primarily military priorities, is... well
Military posture whomst
#the contrapposto of 'actually our 1st priority is friendly contact w/ other people our 2nd is exploration our 3rd is researching phenomena'#more seriously: despite the naval trappings i think the narrative is positing kirk far more as philosopher-king than actual naval captain.#the bridge is a court the captain's chair is a throne etc. the omnipresent possibility of mutiny if he fails is a legitimized revolt.#the xo is a...grand vizier/prime minister sort of situation. so spock can be the best xo in starfleet even though he's not great at xo jobs#kirk does the paperwork. personnel problems skip right past spock and go to kirk bc tos fundamentally doesn't believe they ARE spock's job#& while it is his job to take over in kirk's absenceāthe reality that nobody's happy when spock is forced into the full leadership role#doesn't diminish his reputation as xo bc his /real/ job is being the unflinchingly stalwart right hand & scholarly advisor to the prince#ergo spock's constant supply of lore; prioritizing kirk above his principles & everyone's lives; faithful obedience. he's a great vizier!#all the heavy lies the ... err. arm that wears triple braids and vulnerabilities of captaincy is straight out of shakespeare#kirk is a soldier far more along the lines of henry v than a 20th century vet. shatner himself said playing kirk just wasn't that different#from playing hal in henry vānot just in terms of his own approach as an actor but bc he simply didn't find the roles very different.#bones' recurrent fixation on the idea that spock is kirk's starscream plotting to steal the throne i mean captaincy#is also less deranged in this context bc royal figures w/ devoted genius right hand advisors carrying out their bidding#who sometimes really are fanatically devoted beyond morals and sometimes just scheming machiavels and sometimes both#are a whole trope in this THEATRICAL context. and outwardly spock's behavior could look like either fanatical devotee or machiavel.#k/s has a lot more king/chancellor and damsel-princess/rescuing knight in its dna than equal fellow soldiers in all but name#& the enterprise functions narratively more like a fortified city people can call home & live their lives within than a 60s naval posting (X @anghraine)
Honestly, probably one of my most strongly-felt TOS opinions of all my many opinions is that the leads' real sense of gender and presentation is quite different for each, below the surface of imposed gender normativity that is all over the depiction of Federation culture and which they don't know how to theorize, but do know is inadequate in some way.
McCoy's gender: guy. the one who most embodies normative healthy masculinity of the future. he's not really bothered by others' gender presentation being different, though sometimes projects so much of his own comfy masculinity onto others that he fails to see how different their experiences and perspectives really are
Kirk's gender: diva. fully convinced that everyone experiences gender as performance too, even if he leans into conventionally feminine roles and backs away from narrowly masculine ones a bit more than most. doesn't everyone want to be a buff, pretty damsel regularly rescued by a dashing pointy-eared knight, deep down? (97% of everyone else: ???)
Spock's gender: Vulcan. being a man and not a man at the same time is just Logic (other Vulcans: ?????????????????)
#tbh mccoy deserves credit for being the sole comfortably masculine guy in kirk's personal life to stick it out#and kirk is so brutally cold to him at timesānot just to people. to bonesāthat it's not even surprising that he's the only one#they don't share as much as bones thinks they do but they /do/ share an important quality: willingness to hold themselves accountable#and apologizeāwhich i suspect is part of how their friendship has survived this long where every other guy's guy in kirk's life falters#bones is also the only man who pretty consistently gets undiluted jim kirk without softened personas to make himself palatable#i feel like mccoy DOES value that. but also undiluted jim kirk is a LOT. & he didn't start putting the damper pedal on until recentlyish#and i do think bones befriended him before that. probably not unlike winning the trust of a half-feral hungry stray cat#bones: *feeding a literal stray on a regular basis for the 11th day* hey. i met a lieutenant teaching at the academy who reminds me of you#cat: *hiss* (but more quietly than on the previous days)#bones: yeah he pretty much does that. i bet you'd talk like him if you could talk.#he even does the twitchy pounce/hide/freeze thing when he's surprised! haha you'd probably get along#cat: *loftily ignoring him to inhale food despite now getting it regularly*#bones: ...actually he does that too. you'd think every chicken sandwich was going to be his last (X @anghraine)

You cant make this shit up
āOkay, hear me out.ā
āOkay, hear me out.ā
Polonius narrowed his eyes at him. "As your royal advisor, I'm very strongly advising AGAINST this."
Before Polonius could fall into yet another long-winded lecture, Claudius interrupted. "I'm only SAYING that if Hamlet and Ophelia see us being closer than friends, they might break it off out of disgust!"
"So...you're telling me that I need to make out with you in order for our kids to stop their courtship? My Lord, that is respectfully the stupidest thing I've ever heard."
"Quick! I hear them! Kiss me now, noble Polonius!"
