I would like to talk about the similarities between Toji Fushiguro and Tobias Eaton. When you first put these two characters together what comes up is the fact they are both prodigies when it comes to performance. Toji with his godgiven strength and Tobias being the Dauntless Wonderboy with his dead-on aim and record number of fears. But what made me put these two together is seeing Toji from Naoya’s POV - just really seeing how depressed Toji was when he was still a part of the Zenin Clan reminded me so much of Tobias when he was so desperate to get out of Abnegation, and later Dauntless. They were both outcasts in their communities, both just treated as worthless. Toji was abused and was treated as the Shame of the Clan due to his lack of cursed energy and so was Tobias - alongside the physical abuse from his father, Marcus didn’t allow him to go anywhere outside the house because he was worried Tobias might shame him somehow which made people in Abnegation perceive him as weird and be wary of him and they didn’t even bother to look at him or talk to him. Even in Dauntless he never truly found himself there so he kept searching for the freedom he craved so much and thought he’d get in the place he chose as a haven. He even mentioned how until Tris showed up every day was just waiting for nighttime, which brings me back to Toji who was, like Tobias, also redeemed by love. Both of their partners changed them for the better - the difference is that when Tris died, that change stuck with Tobias, he was changed for good, unlike Toji who when he lost his wife he returned to his old ways of self-destruct. They both also chased validation and acknowledgment. When Tobias first got to Dauntless he became Four and noticed he finally became someone worth looking at. He also always sought for validation and love from his parents - who never gave him that - and partner - it was important for him to hear that “I love you” he needed that trust. With Toji it was more about proving his strength after years of being told he is weak and worthless.
