i keep thinking about how the halimedemf substack is deeply funny, yet nearly impossible to share outside the target audience because the joke is played so horrendously straight it is media for a subculture of subculture like, take the opening of the newest post

if you don't see the chaser undertones, it just doesn't hit right. the way it so obviously threads self-interest into statements that are, on the surface, kind of progressive? that IS the joke. that is the comedy. it is media that is less about the actual words being said (though they are often funny, as well) and much more about what they say about the fictional character of halimede. and trying to share this with someone who won't clock that the work is often mostly a character study of halimede herself, and a parody of a specific kind of ally, is just impossible
