Maybe this is a controversial opinion but I think facial recognition technology should be banned, in every single use case.

There is literally no reason for it to exist. Even in the most benign use cases e.g. unlocking a phone screen it represents a huge security vulnerability (since someone can hold your phone up to your face against your will) and also because the technology kind of sucks it can easily deny you access to your device for such reasons as you got a new hair cut.

I never even knew the concept in a non dystopian context as a kid, I was introduced to it in thrillers specifically about evil futuristic dictatorships.
