open to f. based on that one tik tok going around about the school’s handyman fixing up one of the teachers rooms bc he has a crush on her or whatever !!!!! 

with his construction gig entering it’s slow season, dimitri was no stranger to picking up an odd job here and there. during the winter months he typically worked part time in the local school district, hopping from school to school to keep things like radiators, pipes and paint jobs up to par. it was a solid gig - the school paid less for labor and he got to keep his rent paid during the slow months. an added plus just happened to be the young teacher he’d met a year or two ago who was seemingly the only one appreciative of his hard work. he saved her room for last, aware he’d be spending a majority of his day inside its walls. he’s looking over the clipboard littered with his scrawlings of what needed to be done when he hears someone on the other side of the door. it was well passed 5 o’clock, kids and staff slowly leaving so he wasn’t entirely sure who it could be. until a familiar face occupies the doorway, and he offers a small grin. “hey,” tucking his pen behind his ear, he’s setting the clipboard down onto one of the desks. “did ya’ forget something? i haven’t started yet, if you need the room.” 

Dani really said “fuck you cat” with these responses. Damn.

Two years felt like they went on for way too long—like time was trickling far too slowly for Vance to deal with. He could remember the day that Joyce told him that his uncle was gone—dead—and the overwhelming sense of dread and anguish that filed him to his core. He could hear his own screams; bloodcurdling and loud as he crumbled in the woman’s arms that day; and how he had to convince her to let him stay in Hawkins with Sharona & her mother rather then leaving with the Byers & Jane to California. He could remember the nights he couldn’t sleep—the nights that Sharona had to hold him because all he could do is scream; in anguish, despair—fear. Hopper was the first adult in a very long time that he found himself to trust after the man had legally adopted him and taken him from Colorado to start a new life in Hawkins.

“𝐒𝐡𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐮𝐩.” His tone was light, a scoff laced with laughter following it as he rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand; emotions overwhelming and unable to contain themselves. Over time vance had become angry again—well, he was always angry—but reminiscent of the boy that moved to Hawkins that first day. Unpredictably angry. Unpredictably violent. The work put in to make Vance just a little bit better all going out the window. Therapy was rarely attended, if at all ( only if Sharona wasn’t taking him ); Vance would get arrested more often for either cutting someone again or causing some sort of property damage that was fuelled by pure rage & distress. And then eventually—he just gave up. Accepted the defeat that his uncle—his dad—wasn’t coming back and that even though he had his sister; he was alone. Again.

This didn’t feel real. It felt like one of the many dreams he had that Jim was alive and okay and then he’d wake up and he wasn’t there. Trust was a hard thing to get from Vance—it was so hard—but Vance put his trust in his positive father figure only for him to be taken away. Still; the seventeen year old was still…unsure of this. How the hell was this possible? “𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧—𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭? 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲.” He grumbled, sighing sharply at the question before he moved to wrap his arms around his uncle dad, fingers curled and gripped tightly into the fabric of his shirt.

“…𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭?”

he saw the emotion in the others eyes, even though there was soft laughter coming from him. jim smiled widely as his nephew son wrapped his arms around him, and hopper wrapped them around vance tightly in return. he had no idea what had happened in the time that he was gone, what vance had gone through or who he stayed with; the good, the bad, the ugly... he knew none of it. but he would find out, he would find out everything from vance with time, he was sure, but right now all he cared about was holding his son close for the first time in two years. “no kid, i’m not dying. i promise, i’m not dying any time soon.” it was stupid to promise, he knew that it wasn’t something he could promise but jim would try his absolute best to stay alive, if for nothing else other than vance. 

“i’m really alive, vance. i promise, i’m alive, i’m here and i’m not going anywhere.” jim would have never voluntarily left vance, or jane for that matter. he wouldn’t have left any of them, but unfortunately for him he didn’t have a choice in whether he had left or not. he didn’t let go of vance, and he wouldn’t until the kid let go of him. honestly, jim was expecting to get hit for his absence, and he would’ve taken it on the chin as well-deserved. whilst it hadn’t been his fault, he had still left after promising that he wouldn’t.

he was really trying to be a better person after high school, and though jonathan had left hawkins with joyce and will, he still made it hard for steve. the brunette couldn’t particularly remember a time when they had seen eye to eye that didn’t involve all the shit that had been happening in hawkins with the upside down, and maybe that’s just because they didn’t. hell, as far as steve could tell, jonathan spent most of his time getting high and avoiding responsibilities, only getting involved once he was dragged in. steve was trying to move on from nancy, but he still didn’t see what she saw in jonathan. he’d come to accept that perhaps he never would.

what the fuck did that even mean? she had a lot to live without? yet the words resonated with billy like most things jane said. he hated it, the connection he felt to her after she delved into his memories at starcourt; seeing his past, seeing his mom. their situations were entirely different, jane growing up in a lab and finding jim hopper whereas billy grew up with a mother who he loved tremendously until she left them, and an abusive father. after his mother left, he lived without anything, without any of his most basic needs being cared for. his father provided a roof over his head, which he liked to remind billy of constantly, and not much else. the hargrove doubted there was even an inch of love there for his only son.

“vance...” jim started, an almost breathless chuckle escaping him as he looked over the other. “you’re just a kid, son. you don’t have to be a good person, especially not with what you’ve been through. but you are good. yes, you’re angry and you have your issues but they stem from things that happened to you, not things that were your own doing. and you’ve agreed to work on them, we’ve figured out therapy for you, you’re making the steps. that’s all that matters.” he didn’t know what else he could say to get the kid to see himself like hopper did. “you might be a little shit, but kid, you’re my little shit, and i couldn’t be prouder of how far you’ve come.” 

sure, he was still attacking people and slashing them up, but his actual issues they were working on together and vance was doing well in his mind. he had been for ride alongs in the police car, calmed down unless someone touched him without permission... he had gave the cops that worked under him instructions so many times for how they should deal with vance; if they chose to ignore that then he was inclined to turn a blind eye to whatever vance did to them.
