“i’m sorry, kid.” jim spoke quietly, voice breaking as he looked over vance. he looked so grown up, yet hadn’t changed all at the same time. his eyes glazed over, full with tears as he looked at his son. he had promised to never leave vance, and even though it wasn’t his fault, he had broken that promise. hopper had done everything he could do to get back to his son as fast as he could, but it still took two years too long. “i’ll always come back to you, and when it is my time, you won’t lose me. i’ll be with you. can i--” he wanted to hug the other, but he had no idea how vance was with touch right now; he could be worse or better, but he hoped that regardless it may be different for the man who took on the role of his father. “how are you doing with hugs on a scale of stabbing to hugging?” hopper tried to tease, hoping to lighten the mood.

“you     don’t    make     that     obvious    at     all.”      words    are     teasing    and    they    make    the    smile    on    your    lips    widen   a    little.      it     somehow    makes    you    feel    a     little     braver,     comic    being    placed     aside    for    you    to     sit     up     on     the     couch.      your    attention    is    on     him     now,       playful    smile     residing    on     freckled    features.        “here    i      thought     you    were    just     waiting    for    the    right    moment    to     kick     my     ass     too.”   

“ strange place to fall asleep. ”

“naughty     boy.”          harsh      behind     his     ear     and     the     gust    of     breath     goes     right     down     his    neck.       when    he    turns    to    look,     there     won’t    be    a     soul     there,     but    it’s    enough    to    get    his    heart     racing.         let     that     beautiful     fear     sink     deep,     deep    inside    of     you,      kiddo!        when    he    turns    back     around,      it’s    standing    there.       wearing    the    face    of     a     familiar    mask    with    a     frown     present,    set    of    black     balloons     in     hand.       “you    didn’t     follow     the    rules    of    my     game!      you     weren’t     supposed    to    leave!”

                    Finney supposes that should give him some comfort - especially as the guy once scared the shit out of him. It probably is best to not be hated by him, “That is...” Expected? Finney supposes and gives a light shrug of his shoulder. He’s honestly not sure what he was wanting out of this. It does kind of settle something, maybe a fear, that the other did hate him - not that he cares what the other thinks. “Good.” His head tilts a little to the side a bit, before giving a small nod of his head. “Well I don’t hate you, not that it matters.”
