If you like Peruvian food, Viru is one of the best in Madrid. You could choose from all sorts of different menus where you could mix meat and fish (surf and turf anyone?). Bonus: the rooms are beautiful and the cocktails are definitely worth tasting!

Alex says this restaurant, just off Plaza Sol, is the best Thai food she's ever had in Madrid (or anywhere in Europe for that matter). A la carte it is really reasonably priced but it also has a Menú del Día, which is the best bet for anyone who is watching the pennies. Drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are average for Madrid. Alex particularly recommends the Pad Thai!

The name pretty much says it all, this is a museum for Spanish jamon! And we don't mean museum in the literal sense, but we do mean museum in the sense that you can nibble and buy from literally any and all types of Spanish jamon! This is a popular place for both tourists and locals alike. No one can compete with their prices either; beer + jamon sandwich for 2 Euros, offers for buckets of beer amongst other things, and a huge menu full of more typical Spanish tapas.

Palacio de La Floresta is a restaurant located inside a palace of the XVII century and is now being managed by the fifth generation of the Duque family. It offers the typical Segovian menu (cheaper than most in the city), and the quality is much better than the rest. They also have two areas where you could take tapas without sitting in a formal table in a casual manner, just like in a Spanish bar but without losing the quality of the restaurant's kitchen.
