And then, one morning that would have held no more significance than any other if not for it happening, the two men hear something they never thought they would hear again.

An unfamiliar voice. A human voice.

Ryland and Simon Grace, who thought they would never have their secure little world rocked again, unconsciously lock their hands together in a silent I’ll keep you safe. Whoever, whatever this is, however they’re here, we’ll keep each other safe. and run towards the sound, which echoes from between two of the larger rocks on the biodome’s beach.

The voice is strained and hoarse, as if the owner has been screaming for some time. “Hello? Where am I!? Is anyone there? Please, help me!”

Simon sees him first and stops in his tracks, Grace following so close he nearly smacks straight into his lover. Miraculously, impossibly, it is a human. A man, dressed in the nondescript clothing of a tired office worker. A man catching sight of them, turning, stumbling towards them. A man bleeding badly from a terrible wound- a bite mark? But what jaw could have made an injury so big? Grace thinks- on his shoulder.

And the man is shouting again. “Please, you have to help me, what is this place!? He- Clark- I attacked me and then I slipped right through the floor and- and-“ Running low on breath and blood, the man collapses.
