Why are rape threats not considered domestic terrorism?
Rape itself is internationally considered a crime against humanity.
We (America, under the administration of Barack Obama) have already tracked, arrested, and detained (sometimes illegally) thousands accused of planning to commit large-scale bodily harm to our citizens under the Patriot Act.
Then why is it that when a person threatens to commit rape against another person, it is not treated in the same way as any other act of terrorism? These are still threats to American citizens' bodies and livelihoods.
Some may say, "Oh, they were just joking." But we don't offer our accused terrorists the luxury of humor, do we now?
The crime of rape is a serious crime. "Humor" allows rape threats to stay in our culture as a tool of control, shame, terror, and humiliation. Are these jokes actually funny when the purpose of the "joke" is to terrify and silence anyone willing to speak out about the horror of rape?
Uhhh yeah, the last time I heard, jokes were supposed to be awesome and hilarious and fun and stuff! Not for hurting entire classes of people.
Are you tired of it? I am. Don't stand for it anymore.
Shout it out loud: Rape threats are not jokes. Rape threats are terrorism.
