I have kind of a niche political view on tumblr, which is that I think misogyny is bad even when it’s just hurting women

and I don’t even think it needs to have a singular benefit for men for feminism and the abolition of patriarchy to be worthwhile

the delicate art of cracking someone's egg honestly has a lot of parallels to trying to help a friend who you think might be in an abusive relationship

the egg prime directive is stupid as fuck because yes, you don't just assume based on incomplete information that your friend is in an abusive relationship and then try to force them out of it, but you don't just fucking do nothing either. you have to employ finesse

As someone who was, prior to mid-2019, a hopeless fucking egg herself, and whose mental health improved dramatically once she came out, it is incumbent upon people to work out how to crack their friends' eggs. But it's different for every person, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution.

Less like cracking an egg and more like restoring a painting- You know that varnish has to come off because even if it's protected the artwork for 200 years, it's dusty and distorting what's under it now, and as you wipe away you might discover that some things you thought were original were later additions, and above all you have to work at the speed the painting wants you to work at, otherwise all you get is burnt canvas and a blur.

I feel like starfish are one of those animals that are treated as very “normal” by people but absolutely shouldn’t be. Like they’re a wheel of repeating heads connected by a central stomach. They walk around using thousands of tiny sticky hydraulically powered tentacles. They have an eye on the end of each arm. Instead of having a mouth they just have an opening where their entire stomach can be pushed out to engulf prey. And they’re just allowed to exist like this. It’s not illegal or anything.
