I have NO idea how anyone can think this is a poor decision. $1,000/month is $52,000 a year that you get for free. That can be used or saved for any number of things.
Most people actually spend the lump sum faster than the few who do it this way. Guaranteed $52k a year means you don’t have to work as hard to make ends meet. You can actually focus on things. Focus on the future. Be able to afford emergencies. Hell, for all we know she put it in some kind of savings account for retirement. Allowing it to grow over time. Etc etc
Knowing me, I would have picked the weekly option as well. Guaranteed $1k a week is a lot of money and already 1/2 the max amount I would be comfy with in just a week. That’s stuff you dream about. That magical cashicorn that makes it that much easier to settle debt. This is the smartest option as well as the most reasonable.
I hate when I see an iceberg drift by and I recognize the iceberg and it’s an iceberg that’s already struck my boat multiple times.
“I don’t think we should be assigning morality to the national origin of plants 😒 feels kind of anti-immigrant and xenophobic 🙄”
Ok calling something invasive has nothing to do with morality and everything to do with the fact that we are losing native plants and habitat so quickly that we’ve seen major insect decline in just the past 20-30 years which could cause a collapse of nearly all of our major food systems.
We can call a burning bush planted in Michigan “invasive”. It’s not a person. It’s a fucking shrub. Pull it out of your yard please.
That, and - are people actually saying "no raising any plant outside of its native habitat ever" or are they saying "if you bring a plant into a place where it's invasive you have a responsibility to make sure it doesn't spread unchecked"? Because I've only seen the latter but it seems like in order to think it's "anti-immigrant" you'd have to assume the former...
In Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer discussed how some non-native plants aren't an issue. She uses plantain. It doesn't displace native species, it works well within the existing food chains. Other non-native species are highly disruptive to the environments they colonize by pushing out native species or disrupting the existing food chain or both. And some plants simply don't spread much so having them in your garden is kind of a non-issue.
Be responsible about what you plant. Have an understanding about what is and is not invasive in your region of the world. It is perfectly fine to love a certain plant, but understand which ones should really only be admired in their native ecosystems and which ones are safe to put in your yard.
According to the CDC, in 10 percent of those drownings, the adult will actually watch the child do it, having no idea it is happening. Drowning does not look like drowning—Dr. Pia, in an article in the Coast Guard’s On Scene magazine, described the Instinctive Drowning Response like this:
“Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing. Speech is the secondary or overlaid function. Breathing must be fulfilled before speech occurs.
Drowning people’s mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouths of drowning people are not above the surface of the water long enough for them to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning people’s mouths are above the surface, they exhale and inhale quickly as their mouths start to sink below the surface of the water.
Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water’s surface. Pressing down on the surface of the water permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe.
Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response, drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment.
From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people’s bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs.”
This doesn’t mean that a person that is yelling for help and thrashing isn’t in real trouble—they are experiencing aquatic distress. Not always present before the Instinctive Drowning Response, aquatic distress doesn’t last long—but unlike true drowning, these victims can still assist in their own rescue. They can grab lifelines, throw rings, etc.
Look for these other signs of drowning when persons are in the water:
Head low in the water, mouth at water level
Head tilted back with mouth open
Eyes glassy and empty, unable to focus
Eyes closed
Hair over forehead or eyes
Not using legs—vertical
Hyperventilating or gasping
Trying to swim in a particular direction but not making headway
Trying to roll over on the back
Appear to be climbing an invisible ladder
So if a crew member falls overboard and everything looks OK—don’t be too sure. Sometimes the most common indication that someone is drowning is that they don’t look like they’re drowning. They may just look like they are treading water and looking up at the deck. One way to be sure? Ask them, “Are you all right?” If they can answer at all—they probably are. If they return a blank stare, you may have less than 30 seconds to get to them. And parents—children playing in the water make noise. When they get quiet, you get to them and find out why.

BOOST FOR THE SUMMER. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
Can I just say thank you to OP for putting such a detailed description on this?
I’ve been a lifeguard for 6 years now and of all the saves I’ve done, maybe two or three had people drowning in the stereotypical thrashing style. And even those, like the save I made last weekend, it was exactly like OP describes where the person’s head is going in and out of the water but it isn’t long enough to get any air. Mostly you recognize drowning by the look on someone’s face. If someone looks wide eyed and terrified or confused, chances are they’re drowning. That look of “oh shit” is pretty easily recognizable. And even if you can’t tell for sure: GO AFTER THEM ANYWAY. I’ve done “saves” where a kid was pretending to drown and I mistook it for real drowning, but that’s preferable to a kid ACTUALLY drowning.
Also please remember that even strong swimmers can drown if they have a medical emergency, get cramps, or get too tired. If your friend knows how to swim but they’re acting funny get them to land. And even if someone can respond when you ask them if they need help, if they say they do need help? GO HELP THEM.
However . If the victim is a stranger, I can’t recommend trying to get them. Lifeguards literally train to escape “attacks,” because people who are drowning can freak the fuck out and grab you and make YOU drown as well. If you do go in after someone, take hold of them from the back and talk to them the whole time. IF YOU ARE GRABBED: duck down into the water as low as you can get. The person is panicking and won’t want to go under water and should release you. Shove up at their hands and push them away from you as you duck under. Don’t die trying to save someone else.
Please guys, read and memorize this post. Not all places have lifeguards. Being able to recognize drowning is such an important skill to have and you can save someone’s life.
Just incase!
In a water park once, I was suddenly grabbed by a child and he dragged me under the water without warning. I was going to get angry with him when I resurfaced because I thought he was being an ass, until I looked at him go back in and out hyperventilating the entire time. I grabbed him under his arms and began trying to drag him out while screaming for the lifeguard.
When the lifeguard got us both out, a woman came running down and accused me of harming him and said he had been completely fine in the water. That there was no reason to drag him out of there. The lifeguard had to explain to her that her son had been drowning, to which her response was to say that she didn’t hear him call for help.
People seriously need to learn the signs.
http://spotthedrowningchild.com/ really demonstrates how easy it is to miss drowning
Also! You shouldn’t swim alone. I doesn’t matter if you’re a good swimmer. I typically swim 60 laps several times a week at the local Y. I’ve been swimming since I was three and competitively in my teens. I can swim a couple miles non-stop. And I recently got a really bad cramp mid swim. Luckily I was able to grab the lane divider and, in the end, I needed the life guard to help me to the side of the pool with his rescue floaty thing because my leg wouldn’t uncramp and I was suddenly not really able to swim. If that happened while I was somewhere alone? I might not have made it. Never swim alone.
“Haha remember when murder-hornets were gonna be a thing? What a nothingburger.”
Yes, because the Washington state government activated like a sleeper-cell and ruthlessly, systematically hunted them down and annihilated them.
“Y2K came to nothing amirite?”
Yes because an army of software engineers working around the clock, losing sleep, and busting ass till the last minute prevented it from happening.
“Remember the hole in the ozone layer?”
You mean the one that was fixed through rigorous world wide government action?
One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those “it’s gonna be an apocalypse” disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.
The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.
And I still think that’s going to happen. I don’t know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope won’t help bring it about.
And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.

I’m here to muse to the void. Further talk about things I started realizing recently after watching a Longplay on YouTube.
Now this is something I have already brought up in my Discord the other day, but it’s something I’ve still been thinking about. Louder today I guess cause birthday. Regardless, I wanted to get more thoughts out so more under the cut.
reblog if you’ve had an online friendship that’s lasted more than 2 years
for everyone asking, tumblr is making it impossible for you to add onto ANY post without making it its own separate post. If you put any addition on someone's post its now your post. The OP won't even be privy to any notes it gets unless they check that specific post. This makes it impossible to track anything which is really detrimental to artists who need to know their reach or just see what people are saying about their work. It also just means you can't reblog with any additions without taking notes away from your original post. This is part of what made twitter hostile and its the last gasping breath of a site run by people who don't understand it.
Not to sound like a decrepit, rambling corpse about it, but back in my day Word used to be a pre installed program that came with your computer, if you were running Windows.
No subscription. Just program.
On your computer. You got to use it forever and ever and never had to worry about it going away.
Because it was physically on your computer. As a program. That you actually owned. Not because you got it separately, but because it was a standard inclusion with your computer.
I'm sorry but I'll just never get over it. I remember when companies cared about their products being usable out of the box. I remember when our things belonged to us.

guys….,, being friends, like actual friends, with people you have systemic privilege over is going to involve some good-natured ribbing. it’s going to involve them complaining about [insert privileged group you belong to] in front of you or even to you. that’s not a personal attack, it’s because they think you’re cool enough to hang. it’s because they think they can express their frustration to you without you attacking them. you really want to prove them wrong?
Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.

As more and more people are being forced to switch to Windows 11, Microsoft's most AI-malware-ridden OS yet, I've been putting together articles and links for how to undo the damage and save your battery, your RAM, your disk space, your privacy, and your sanity from this bullshit.
FIRST:
The easiest way to get rid of the majority of the bullshit that Windows is forcing on us, as of October 2025, is this one-stop-one-click debloat solution from a modern day hero:
A simple, lightweight PowerShell script to remove pre-installed apps, disable telemetry, as well as perform various other changes to customi
It's very easy, even if you're not tech savvy or get scared of pop up windows saying "ARE YOU SURE?" Yes, you are sure, I promise. This program takes maybe two minutes and will save you SO MUCH pain, time, and money (and exploitation).
Now that you've done that, here's the cleanup, to catch the little shit that the debloat might have missed (most of this will already be done by debloat, but hey, it's good to double check).
Microsoft wants to put AI everywhere on your PC, but you can take back control.
Even just reading about some of these features makes me angry. Fucking Copilot and "Discover" AI scrapers are in Notepad. NOTEPAD. And then there's this uncanny valley garbage:
No uncanny valley video calls for me, thanks! (Also, what else is it doing while it scans your face and listens to your calls? What else, microsoft? Because there was a lot of memory being assigned to this program for a simple "smooths your skin" add on).
Tired of Microsoft pushing ads throughout Windows 11? Here are the settings you can tweak to turn them off and reclaim some privacy.
The truly insane number of places they have stuck ads on your own home computer is sickening. Become Unmarketable.
Bonus:
Some background programs you probably don't need that are taking up space and how to remove them (Microsoft forums, 2024)
Your Samsung Galaxy Phone comes with 22 apps you don't need (Android Police, 2025)
How to disable the AI in firefox (still the only browser that lets you do this permanently) (Windows Report, 2025)
If you're going to Boycott Youtube, that is a great start, butdon't end it at that, you need to CALL THEM!
CALL YOUTUBE
CALL GOOGLE
CALL PAYPALL AND YOUTUBE'S OTHER SPONSERS
PESTER THEM, BOTHER THEM
SPAMCALL THEM AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
You don't even have to do that, specifically.
you can also spam tag them on twitter or spam email them
Because every call, every email, everything that comes their way.
they have to pay money to be able to host it, and they legally unable to ignore a single call!
This is a comment from a different Youtube video:
"From another "censorship" video: "I work for a credit card company (not Visa nor Mastercard) and I can tell you that reducing the amount of call center calls is 80% of all the projects I work on. Anything that increases the amount of calls they get is a nightmare for them, because they need to pay the call centers per taken, and they're not allowed to ignore any calls. Keep calling and they'll eventually cave. Copy and paste this everywhere. Spread the word."
Everytime you call them that is money out of their pockets!
That is what we need to do if we want things to change!
We need to leave, and then we call them over and over and over again.
Also, spread the word, make posts like this telling others what we need to do!
