Terms and definitions to help find your way around the Compact!
Now, including a reading list for all you sophonts out there. In order of (personal) importance to the world building and my own posts.
1. Human Domestication Guide- It's what started it all and should at least be read once so you know what's going on.
2. Abcission- For people who want more Human like affini, and not just full on wish fulfillment and pleasure dispensers. It's single handedly my favorite story and as long as you can handle the themes, can appeal to a lot of readers.
3. Divaricated- Story feels a bit slow to me personally, and has a lot of pet play aspects in the second half that don't appeal as much to me, but is overall well written and is a part of the foundational works that gives a lot of context to the world.
4. No gods, no masters- Heavy on philosophy of the affini and it's culture. You will need to have some understanding of Marxist and socialist/communist philosophy to get the most out of this story.
Now my personal favorites and why
5. Five lives - well written and has fully fleshed out characters and motives. You will get attached to the characters. Touches on a little bit of everything kink and mental health wise. A couple of best-selling works I've read don't compare to some of the strengths this story has.
6. Through the looking glass- It's kinky smut with another cast of wonderfully written characters and proper pacing that some HDG fics struggle to properly balance.
7. Courtship- This is where I get a lot of my inspiration when it comes to affini/ human dating. It knows it's not a usual HDG fic and portrays their relationship in a way I haven't seen many fics do. This is the story that inspired me to start writing again and to try some fics in this universe.
8. Ramifaction- Deep dives into biorhythms and touches into affini/ affini relationships. It can feel a bit slow, but again, the characters and motives are so well written, and the need to learn more about them keeps me invested.
