You still don’t get it. How do you still not get it?
We don’t need to preface every single post with “revenge porn is bad :(“ because no fucking shit it’s bad. The show frames it as bad.
Discussing possible motivations? Not an attempt to justify it. You cannot justify the unjustifiable.
Now do they have their justifications for it? Absolutely. Delegitimise Lestat, stop the concert, try to halt the Great Conversion. Prevent 50,000 vampires from being in the same place at once. We know this ends badly.
It is interesting to talk about that. You know, the plot of the show we’re all watching? It’s fun to discuss. When something is obviously bad and the show hits you over the head with the fact that it’s bad, you do not need to keep reiterating that it’s bad. It’s not complicated.
I do have a fondness for how gothic and erotic lit had a certain barrier to entry. Like I do love more ppl getting into the vampire chronicles and I'll always be happy to have more Loustat fans but those books are weird and melancholic and erotic and philosophical and constantly testing boundaries and asking questions. And it feels like ppl are expecting or wanting "the vampire diaries but gay". The books have uncomfortable moments and the characters will do and say and believe things that make you double take but so much of the books are just "how moral can I be when nothing matters and I'm immortal?"
This isn't just a tale of gay vampires. It's a haunting philosophical treatise about life, mortality, morality, death, depression, incest, rape, love, regret, and the Pain Of Time. It can be fun and it can be gross and it can be wonderful but it's not for the timid.
My thoughts on revenge porn as a plot device: in order to slow the Great Conversion, Armand needed to throw a bucket of cold water (so to speak) on top of the admiration the other vampires feel for Lestat. It’s not enough to kill him, artists often become even more popular after their death. They needed to scandalize him. Shame him. Disgust the other vampires to truly douse the flames of the great conversion. Also, I do think that this will aid, the very much in denial Lestat, to see his relationship with Gabrielle for what is truly is. Abuse. They are telling a modern story with modern plot devices, revenge porn being used in this way makes sense to me. I remind myself that this is a work of fiction with murderous vampires who have killed thousands of innocent people and I still root for them. Love them. Just my thoughts as someone who has been the victim of revenge porn circa Craigslist I’m 2013.

It’s so annoying because they are quick to drag him around on press tours and interviews. Jennifer Ehle and Sheila Atim didn’t have to do nearly as much press as Assad! Why do you people think that Luke is going to replace Eric? Why not just have Luke in the flashbacks/past DM (and Night Island) and then keep Eric until Daniel dies? I would be really suprised if the show kills off “Eric’s Body” but not Daniel. Is it just because people think Eric is old and can’t make it to the next season? Because that seems silly to me.

I've already explained why I believe it will happen. And it is straight up because, from everything I've observed and all the things that Eric himself has said, it's clear to me that Eric was never hired to play the romance between Daniel and Armand.
That's it. That is the reason.
Think about everything we've seen with Armand and Daniel in Season 3. Notice they haven't shown one single thing you'd think they would show if they were building up a full romance between them?
I mean, just in this latest episode, EP306. They never showed Armand teaching Daniel how to walk in the sun.
Even if such a thing could be taught, which it really shouldn't be able to be, that would have been a perfect thing to actually show Armand doing with Daniel, to build on the romance of their storyline, show the love, or growing love and connection between them.
But they didn't show it. Just like they didn't have Armand tell Daniel about the time period in the past when they were lovers (because yes, all the signs are still there that their past romance did happen).
Many DM shippers have been complaining all season about the "tell, don't show" of it. But that hasn't been because of lazy or bad writing. As I mentioned last week, it is because it is intentional.
Because the show never intended to do the modern-day part of the Armand/Daniel romance with Eric playing Daniel. And Armand's motives wrt Daniel are clearly about something else, IMO.
Again, I gave all the signs and clues that this was planned from the start wrt Eric, and what I think they have coming for Daniel, and why:

Killing Daniel's biological body, but having his spirit come back, gives him a storyline that ties directly into what I suspect Armand's storyline is at the moment -- which is Armand trying to find a way to separate Amel from Akasha so that every vampire in the world, including himself, does not die when they ultimately have to kill Akasha.

As well as, IMO, carrying Daniel's character into future storylines that can have him more active in, and that deal with spirits and souls after the Akasha storyline is done, such as the Tale of the Body Thief (i.e. souls being able to switch around) and the Prince Lestat storyline, when Amel will most likely begin to take even more of a center stage within the story.
Hell, they might even do bits of the Memnoch storyline, since Memnoch and Amel knew each other. Daniel, being a spirit that Memnoch is trying to lure into his Hell, could be an interesting subplot, IMO.
And also, for example, originally, Anne Rice was going to have the spirit Lasher be the one to come to Armand and work with him in stopping Akasha. The show, I believe, has taken that and will use Daniel in place of Lasher instead. (And Mayfair Witches TV show already killed off Lasher's character, so bringing him over to IWTVL is a no-go.)
Plus, well... as I said in another post, I do think an invasive spirit is shacking up in Daniel's body, which is why his vampire eyes are orange and not violet. If this turns out to be the case, and if that spirit has attached itself to Daniel's brain and heart already (which is what is the case with Amel), then ... there is absolutely no way to separate Daniel from the invasive spirit that might also be his body.
Except if you sever Daniel's Silver Cord. Then, even though Daniel would die, there is at least a chance to "save" him by binding his spirit to Earth before it leaves. (And the invasive spirit would just die, along with Daniel's biological body).
So yeah, my theory about Daniel having an invasive spirit within him wasn't only regarding his possible turning, or why his vampire eyes are orange instead of violet. It is because I think it is one of the many ways the show is going to make it damn clear that there is no saving his biological body. If there is an invasive spirit within Daniel, which I very much think there is? Then that spirit is probably already locked into Daniel's brain and heart, and that means there is zero way to simply separate them.
Just like there is no way to simply separate Amel and Akasha.
Daniel's character is not leaving the show. That is not going to happen. This show is built around four characters -- Louis, Lestat, Armand, and Daniel. All four of these characters survive until the end of the book series, and I do not see that changing at all when it comes to the TV show.
IF Daniel dies at some point -- and I do think he will -- his character WILL BE coming back.
And everything I've laid out above, as well as in the other posts I've made the past few days, is how I think it will happen, and why Luke will probably be the one who will play Daniel after it happens.
Because it is during Season 4 that I think the show will begin to actually explore the romance between Armand and Daniel. Which is very much not doing so right now by clear intent and design.
How are people still thinking that Armand is the villain of this season while Lestat himself is joining the war on the Great Conversion on the side of the Great Conversion, while also flagrantly revealing the existence of vampires to humans. Lestat and friends are literally planning to make more vampires to wipe out humanity, but*Armand* is the big bad? The dude who just keeps getting into cheesy romcom levels scenarios with Daniel and killed ONE guy?

Ugh so I get frustrated with the writing on TVL. There are lots of things to be frustrated over…but despite the changes to the books it is obvious the writers have read them. There are so many little Easter eggs for the book readers. So many little call backs that I can’t imagine wouldn’t come into play. I do have high hopes for season four. The Vampire Lestat was never going to be an easy book to adapt. Yes they should’ve spent their budget more wisely:..but I do think they were painted into a tight spot. I’m overall happy and had fun this season. As everyone else, hoping for spin offs of other stories.
