i relate to everything anne rice ever said about her writing process. mama said it would be okay

i do think there is something darkly alluring about the idea as well of louis as a monstrous protector of regina. a fixation on wanting her to thrive but it's twisted because what he thinks thriving is might not be the vision she has of her life. of him going from paying her for roleplay to being fixated on where she goes, what she does, who she talks to, who she dates, where she lives, where she sleeps etc. how far can the delusion go? this isn't that kind of show and there is more plot that needs to go on beyond this, so i am sure the actual show will wrap this bit up (and probably in a somewhat tragic way) within this season. but there is a VERY compelling gothic plot here that fandom could truly run with for fics, au's and fanarts of louis as this horrifying, ever present entity over her shoulder trying to dictate how her life goes.

but also i need to know what is going on in regina's head like??? does she think louis is just projecting some kind of real grief onto the book and onto her? does she think he's some rich guy who is a sanguinarian that latched onto the book as being part of his identity and wants to get off to it??? i doubt she believes in vampirism so?? like she kinda moved past that rather quick

"what next, daddy lou?" was so bone chilling. i wish i had the right words right now to formulate my thoughts but if you can walk with my scattered brain here, vampires traditionally came about as symbolism for the upper class leeching on society. this is why they are often wealthy in media and why they adapted louis from being a slave owner to being a pimp, betraying his own community by preying on impoverished women. and seeing him go right back to that....he might not be sexualizing regina, but he is exploiting her. he can't even resist the urge to exploit the mere likeness of claudia to assauge his own guilt and grief. oh louis you really are going to hell i love you

thinking about things from regina's point of view is like peak goth horror. imagine this man who just seems slightly off is following you around because you remind him of his dead daughter and he is projecting his grief over the life unlived onto you. and the man is not a man at all but a monster. thinking about how anne rice vampires are just *off.* even when people don't know what they are they are either mesmerized or horrified or both. just this creature skulking in the night looking at you with misplaced longing

idk but the end monologue in midnight mass is one of the most beautiful pieces written about death and it's everything i love about the heart of gothic horror
