disabled people are not an optimisation problem. neither are they a resource problem. they are not a burden to society and their "contribution" has nothing to do with what they deserve. a society that's built to discard disabled people, including age related disabilities, is a society that's failed. if you can't offer healthcare to people then your country has failed. there's no maximum resource quota for people to keep them alive and living well. actually i don't give a singular fuck how expensive it is. fascist fucking country
there's something about the way people act when you ask them to care about ableism that really feels condescending to me. patronising even. there's this sense that you're asking for a favour instead of demanding respect. like instead of pointing out groundless bigotry, people actually believe in what ableism is based on - that disabled people are worth less or embarrassing or difficult to deal with - and what you're asking is for them to politely ignore that truth instead. and people only really ever follow through because of pity instead of respect for another human being. it's so everywhere that you get this feeling both from people being overtly ableist and from people trying not to be. but like you're not doing me a favour by treating me like a person.
honestly yeah, fiber arts is magic. you cast spell of warm gloves, spell of nice hat, spell of stuffed animal.
material component: yarn
wand: single hooked wand or double pointed wands, depending on caster's preference
mechanical component: specific motions repeated in a particular pattern
time component: a while
look seriously the first step in a knitting recipe is "cast on", and then it's a bunch of letters and numbers incomprehensible to anyone not versed in the arcane art. that's a spellbook. yes it's a book of knitting patterns but also. it's a spell book.
disability is natural. disability is normal. a person born with a face difference is more natural than perfectly straight, white teeth. we don't have an instinctive fear of disabled people, especially visibly disabled persons. we have been trained year in year out to view disability and visible difference as scary. and to be honest the way to fix that is to just practice. look up people with face differences. there are people out there willingly promoting the visibility of people like them to help change the stigma around face differences. go to changingfaces (dot) org (dot) uk and click on the real stories page. people are reaching out, doing the work, willing to put themselves out there, sharing their stories, for better representation. for other people to start treating them like the human beings that they are, and less like a spectacle. do the bare minimum, and go look.

okay also semi related post. I think it is really silly when people make all these posts about how adderall is so different than meth and start saying demeaning stuff about meth users when they’re discussing the artificially created adderall shortage. the two drugs are both stimulants and yeah they are not chemically identical but they are enough the same that I currently know of a clinical trial where people are piloting adderall as a form of MAT for meth users. (Which has been really popular with the participants so far, people were telling me they liked having access to a consistent supply of adderall and were interested in reducing their meth use to only a couple times a week instead.) so maybe we should start thinking a little bit more about how there’s a lot of propaganda sensationalizing and stigmatizing meth use and stop blaming people who use meth for a shortage that the DEA is causing!!!
i was 32 big years old when i realized you can dump frozen broccoli directly into the air fryer and it cooks to the absolute perfect texture... like hit it with some olive oil cooking spray and seasoning and cook it for like 10-14 minutes at 400 and it ends up stil tender but with the little crispy crunchy bits on the tips of the florets??? this has genuinely changed my life recently btw bc it's just even less effort to cook precut frozen broccoli than cut it yourself. god bless
Call my body a billionaire the way it exploits me for all my hard work and gives me jackshit for it 🥲

If you think about it, the phrase “a bowl of mac and cheese” fits the format for generic YA fantasy titles

Snowmen and scarecrows are the same species of animal btw. Seasonal variants even.
reading vague posts about some unhinged discourse occurring far from my realm of exposure is like the platonic opposite of "I saw Goody Proctor at the Devil's Sacrament" like damn clearly i was not at the sacrament what the fuck
So I’m a month late but a promise is a promise dangit @everlastingrandom
Omg!! This is so beautiful!!! I am honored by its creation!

So appropriate today
So many TV shows/movies depict the Epi Pen as a total solution for anaphylaxis...it's not. The Epi Pen gives you 30 minutes to get to a hospital where they can save your life. TV makes it look like you just have to use the Epi Pen and then the crisis is over. Do people without allergies or a loved one with allergies know that an Epi Pen only buys you time? The more I see this on TV the more I worry...
**Maybe you should reblog this because I'm actually worried that most people don't know.
Omg so much this! I have to use my epipens about three times a year and my doctor recommends I shoot both of them in my thigh and then call an ambulance! They are a STABILISER not a cure!!
would much like to point out that the people publishing these articles are trying to needle millennials into treating gen z with the same disgusting vitriol we were treated with.
don’t buy it.
our younger brothers and sisters might eat a tide pod and get us blamed for it, but we have more in common with them than we ever had with boomers or gen x.
they are terrified of the things we can do together. remember that.
Stop convincing yourself you’re wasting your life away. The time you’ve spent resting and healing was and is necessary. You’re not a waste of a person if you find yourself struggling right now. Healing, recovering, sitting with your pain is foundational. It’s not a waste. You are still whole.

Image description: A post from Erin Haacker @HydroHaacker that reads: Boomers: When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. GenX: When life hands you lemons, create a startup to market lemon juice as a healty, low-carb alternative to lemonade. Millennials: Hahahaha, as if life would ever just *hand you* lemons
