no hear me out. give me a second here, history major beatrice n astrophysics major ava meet completely by chance one night late in the library where they both somehow get locked in bc no one thought to check for stragglers and they end up talking all night, tucked into the back between astronomy n anthropology. ava tells beatrice about the stars, how the cosmos flows in their veins and how the study of space is just the study of themselves, the study of how to return to the place from which they came, “it’s us who gets discovered,” she says, talking of satellites and telescopes, of the mars rovers and how they’re programmed to sing songs to themselves, love against the void. and beatrice tells ava about what it is to be human, about how the one thing that remains constant throughout the many many years is kindness, about how the first hint of civilisation was that healed femur, “connection is the most important thing,” she says, talking of music and scriptures, of how stories are just a palimpsest of memories, of the longevity of olive trees, how you can stand under the branches of one and know that two hundred years ago someone else did the same, how love echoes constantly backwards and forwards. the next morning when the library is unlocked again they stumble into the closest open cafe, order the biggest coffee they’ve got, and ava has a seminar to attend and beatrice has a lecture to go to but they exchange numbers and a handshake that turns into a hug and that’s how it begins.

LISTEN. Not once in the show does Beatrice scold Ava for swearing - only Lilith and Mother Superion do that. Which tells me it's not something that bothers her at all, since she has no trouble scolding Ava whenever she thinks it's warranted rip. And Beatrice herself swears twice - when Adriel appears out of the rubble, and when she's frustrated by her coordinates in s2 (and sure, immediately crosses herself). Admittedly that's not a lot, but still, from someone who's as disciplined and in control as Bea... let's just say 16 yo Beatrice was probably using colorful language that would make Ava proud and/or flustered :)

#beatrice teaching ava is truly such a GOOD and FUN dynamic#the way she's so intently focused on ava! watching her carefully as she directs ava's attention to her surroundings#how calm and composed and patient - despite the danger. how kindly she prods ava - how she gently models what ava should be doing#how AWARE she is of ava during this whole scene. aware of what ava sees. of what she picks up. of how she reacts to this lesson#not to repeat myself but beatrice's LASER FOCUS on ava's face here.. it's so much! can you imagine being on the receiving end of it?#can you imagine being the person beatrice WATCHES? no wonder ava always wants more of bea's attention - it must be intoxicating for her#and no wonder ava switches gear from Good Student to Brat midway through ahahah she wants a different kind of attention :')#plus she knows very well that beatrice is not gonna take offense. that bea loves nothing more than when ava is being herself - irreverent#the way beatrice's face changes from eyebrow raise to this quiet fondness in the sixth gif...#yeah she's rolling her eyes at ava's shenanigans but she LOVES HER#okay that's my daily rant in the tags everyone you're welcome (@random-french-girl)
