I would like to share the story of a very understandable but unfortunate mistake i made at work recently
So I'm weeding our ancient and terrible collection of children's books for the first time in possibly ever, and I'm making a decision about a book about migrant workers by Sandra Weiner, called Small Hands, Big Hands. And I'm not 100% sure and I go to just see if there's anything out there about this book's being notable in any way so I do an open web search for
"small hands big hands weiner"
And then I look at my results for a moment
and then at last I somberly add to the end of my search, "BOOK"
I have one like that:
In mathematics, you often consider the two-dimensional plane - you know, the idealised flat two-dimensional object that extends infinitely - which can be real or complex (doesn't matter what that means)
On this, you can perform a mathematical operation called a "blow-up" (resulting in a more complicated geometry)
I needed to look up a formula related to this, so I confidently typed into the search bar:
"Blow up real plane"
The results were not what I wanted and I am not sure if I'm on a terror watchlist now.
This reminds me of my corsetmaker days when i found myself searching for "extra thick boning."
the fact that "bargaining" is a stage of grief. + the fact that when I'm in extreme pain all I can do is lie on the floor and say "please please please" = we are such social animals. we really really really just have a brain that is wired for "surely there must be a way I can interact with someone else that will fix this" even under the most extreme of circumstances, where any rational thought will see a total absence of guys, such as when one is alone in the woods dying of exposure. humans have such a big hole inside us that's for "Someone Else" like a social placeholder such that we keep engineering stuff like religion in a million different ways in a million different places and times. we gotta have
1. social
2. narrative
and if none is provided to us we will make our own out of dirt and sticks
I love humans and I also find us kind of heartbreaking honestly
Random thing for people to consider is that since Laika is the saint of one way trips should Felicette be known as the saint of safe landings since she did make it back to the ground safely
tu LANCES félicette ? tu lances son corps comme la fusée ? oh ! oh ! prison pour les scientifiques ! prison pour les scientifiques pendant Un Mille Ans !
You can understand the French perfectly fine with only context but the English translation I got still had me floored
Thoughts on LGTS?

Goodbye
hi so as far as I've read myself some good batfam recs are Batgirl 2000s + Batgirl 2024, 90s Birds of Prey + 2024, All Star Batman 2016, Batman Year One, and Batman Under the Red Hood, and Batwoman in general
and not everyone liked it but I thought Batman Eternal and Batman & Robin Eternal were fun!!!
also its more snap shotty but wayne family adventures is alright
wayne family adventures looks too sandpapered idk there's very much a "witch looking for her cat familiar in the alps", devoid of substance coziness kind of vibe which is why i haven't checked it out it's been putting me off
i'll try checking out the others! thanks for the recs!!
Hi I'm Valen and I hope your tag request asking for recs was not rhetorical, for wanting to get into steph/cass/tim I'd personally recommend batgirl 2000 first.
One 'problem' with Steph is she was introduced in detective comics and as a supporting character for Tim's robin run and doesn't have her own solo until batgirl 2009 and while that's really good and had a lot of potential, it ends very abruptly when the new 52 starts. Like the creators were told you have 2 issues to wrap everything up abrupt. And while i love her time as spoiler and robin too much to personally rec starting with batgirl 2009 for her, a list of her chronology starring in other comics isn't necessarily a good jumping in point. I do recommend doing so, I love Stephanie so much, but it's not a very direct start, if that makes sense.
One problem with a start for Tim is there's just so much of him (affectionate and occasionally annoyed). I think jumping straight to Tim as red robin without reading any of his robin days (robin 1993) isn't the best idea, you'll miss a lot of his character, but compared to batgirl 2000 that's a longer run with, imo, more quality variance (in a standard long running comic with multiple writers way, not a i don't recommend this comic way) and I'll admit i haven't read most of it (i read comics very randomly)(also my pirate site was taken down and I'm dying) and i, being a sucker for teams and girls like young Justice 1998 better.
Back to the comic run I'm actually reccing as a starting point. Batgirl 2000 is amazing and I don't know anyone who has read it who hasn't fallen in love with Cass. Tim and Steph both show up at different points as well, steph more than Tim. I don't know how much of a pitch I should give, uh, Cass is the living weapon who values what she can do over her life slowly learning how to be a person and I love her so much.
As a rwby fan I'll also say i see a lot of parallels between stephanie/ruby as characters (cassandra/penny as well but that one's less obvious)(Yes i do ship nuts and dolts and stephcass, why do you ask?)
thank you sooooooooooooooooo much for the rec and yes you perfectly understood the assignment don't worry i truly am intrigued by the newer robin/batgirl generation and want to know more abt them!! I'll definitely check those out i might need some help on where to check them out but yeah comic fans i'm basically flashing the bat signal at y'all gimme your best batman/batfam recs!
i also would love to get to know more abt the nightwing/batman split and why dick actually left the robin title behind like actually bc most of what i know i know through osmosis

Wishes for RWBY V10?
4K bumbleby sex scene the 10 hour edition
on a more serious note: a satisfying conclusion and emotional payoff to the build-up of the past 3 volumes! tbh I'm wary of how the pacing of this volume is gonna be affected by the cancellation/roosterteeth going down and the subsequent game of hot potato where they got lobbed off between different parties. i think originally the story was envisioned to have more volumes and time to tell it, so I just hope that they can tie off all narrative ends in a way that is earned and not rushed.
other than that, idk man i miss blake's long hair 😭if there's a timeskip in the volume give her back her lustrous locks i miss her mistral baddie era
Perhaps this is an obnoxious take on my part, but video games should, above all things, prioritize the ability of being paused. At any point. Regardless of whether it's during a cutscene, a special animation, or a time-based puzzle. You never know when you're gonna get a phone call, or someone will need you in another room, or you get a sudden urge to go to the bathroom, or you hear your cat licking plastic, or whatever. Other entertainment mediums like books, movies, and music can be paused whenever you want. Why do some games not give you the same luxury??

Then I’ll greet him with the customary ‘Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy?’

You listen to music regularly? Why? Have you even tried quitting? Could you quit? You get music stuck in your head? Wow. You're so ruined and music brained. I bet you make your partners listen to music with you when you have sex. Music addiction has really ruined a whole generation. You know it's not realistic to expect reverb in real life, right? You're probably so desensitized that you don't even feel anything anymore when you hear a bird singing that it wants some fuck.
I don't have a problem with people listening to music per se, but I do have a problem with the music industry exploiting & mistreating artists.
Personally, I abstain from all music in order to keep my hands clean but really music should just be illegal outright to protect musicians from abuse.
holy shit this person in the notes
Amazing that we call him the cookie clicker guy and not the "this website's hate mail game is insane" guy because one of those things had a much bigger impact on Tumblr culture than the other
#I think it's nice that the thing he'a known for is something he's put a lot of work into and was passionate about#as opposed to some funny posts he made in a few minutes#would you rather be known as large for your funny posts or your books if given the choice?
I'm already known for my funny posts and not my books. People express surprise that I'm a writer constantly.
#wait what#Derin I didn't know you were funny
