read some good analysis of obsession (2026) and it really confirms to me that movie is showing us how and why straight men’s fantasies of the ideal gf are horrifying. it’s not even primarily about rape or sexual coercion, although those things are there. straight men don’t know how to build a connection from genuine curiosity about another human’s experience on this earth, from mutual respect and admiration. they fundamentally cannot do that as long as they refuse to see women as people. the horror is misogyny, but the rape allegory isn't even the most horrifying part. the horror is that nikki was never a person in bear’s mind. the horror is being made into a concept, a prize, and not being allowed to be a person. bear does that to nikki, with the wish, and then the nikki entity does the same thing to him in turn.

I feel like a lot of people get "All Art is Political" confused with "All Art is made with Political Intentions" which is not the same.
