So, because I had to explain "Everything Has A Price" 'verse Jason's clothing to Estridae for the next comm,
Jason's clothing is a weird modified/fusion Japanese base with Chinese detailing đ
I didn't make the culture blend Ra's has chosen to go with- in reality I'm pretty sure most people making art for Ra's and the League (especially in the early days) just kind of handwaved and vaguely categorized it as Middle Eastern + Oriental and bled all the cultures and time periods together Willy nilly...
... and I just rolled with it đ
The closest things to reality are:
- His pants being Japanese sashinuki worn inappropriately. The boots are worn over the bunched/synched up bottoms, and he's wearing the kneepads.
- The "shirt" is a Japanese samue kimono style top that's also worn inappropriately (by both definitions of the word). Because he's wearing it tucked into the pants, rather than outside of them and long with an under shirt that's tucked into the pants. He's got the sleeves cuffed/bunched up where the top of his bracers sit. The chest is wide open and only closed at the bottom with the power of the tuck & belt.
- The belt is also an obi that mostly looks correct, except it has the decorative metal end caps.
That's the modified Japanese influence.
But his bracers are a Chinese/Japanese fusion.
The boots are unique and match no culture and are more like shoes with built in leg bracers than anything.
The kneepads have a sculpted interior, but the outer face is purely decorative. Round and convex. Ra's essentially wanted him to be Tim's guard dog? Fuck it, he's wearing the ornamental Chinese foo dogs out of SPITE (he also thinks they look cool, okay?)
The dual katanas and the back scabbards : he dual wields like Talia (who taught him herself way at the start post-pit, even if he had no practical use for it- so he thought), but prefers the lighter blades the katanas offer. The scabbards being at his sides got in the way, so he quickly switched to the back placement. All because Ra's refused to let him have his guns- in a play he was sure was based in the man's need for some degree of control, and their ruining of his â¨aesthetic⨠with him being a constant presence at Tim's side. (He was bitter that Pru had no such limitations on her)
His overall logic in the look being that:
#1 - it's hot as hell there unless they're at one of the mountain estates. Ra's was annoying and liked to move between bases/estates every so often, seemingly without rhyme or reason.
#2 - The blatant disregard for appropriate garb and the mocking way in which he wears it irritates Ra's to no end.
#3 - The exact opposite with Tim, in that Tim likes the look a little too much.
The uh... posture collar however, was not his doing. That was all Tim, and was a mixed bag of goodies on its own. Part possession, part protection... him wanting him to look cherished, so no one decided to be an idiot and dare harm him, wanting Ra's to squirm because it made it obvious to everyone that he was Tim's- in a very much not platonic manner.
The way it had made him feel... that had been unexpected. He'd scoffed at it, rolled his eyes. But then once Tim had put it on him- it was grounding. A constant light holding pressure. It made him feel wanted. He'd thought it was beautiful. That it made him beautiful. Things had spiraled from there because it hadn't escaped Tim's notice of course, and it became a thing, and neither of them were complaining.
And it gave Ra's this hilariously pinched expression every time his eyes locked on it.
So really, it's winning to him across the board đ
