I need Shen Yuan and Caleb forced to cooperate I need them to be so fucking mad about it the whole time. I need Shen Yuan to be giving this man period cramps and Caleb to be elbowing his Shizhi who is literally decades his junior whenever anyone turns around

And like i need it to be important too. Yue Qingyuan would not have sent these two specifically if he did not need to. If he sent them together at all. He probably sent Caleb and Shen Yuan sent himself for the demons.

And they are not behaving but they are god damn professionals dammit and this is important!

(This probably something for Elyse. They are likely In Danger or Wife Plotted or Something. Either way these two idiots getting along will determine the fate of the world and they are weighing their options pretty fucking heavily actually.)

Shen Yuan and Caleb were chosen bc the cure needed their skill sets Very Specifically for some reason or another

(Or rather Caleb was chosen and Shen Yuan elected to send himself bc Heavenly Demon)

Neither are happy about being forced away from Elyse at such a delicate moment but also someone needs to go grab the cure Or Else

They are at each others throats but also failure is not an option

Shen Yuan, walking in hair down, dirt smeared, barefoot, as wild as when he was being haunted by the damn sword: Sorry I’m late I was taking care of some last minute things. I have the cure, Zayne.

Caleb, storming in looking like he is carrying half the Forest with him: THE LITTLE SHIT PUSHED ME OFF THE FUCKING MOUNTAIN!!

At least he waited until after they got back and the cure was able to be delivered. It was a rather impressive display of restraint from him all things considered. Inquiring minds (Binghe) want to know where the fuck Shen Yuan’s shoes went though. Also his hair pieces. Why is he going around partially undressed Caleb what are you letting happen?!!??

(Caleb threw him in a river) (twice) (the second time was because Shen Yuan reacted like a pissed off cat and Caleb thought it was funny)

They are such culture shocks to each other though. I would say “sleeping in an inn vs roughing it” but I think both of them would be pushing for inedia and blaming the other when Luo Binghe came hunting them down after the fact because Shen Yuan is Banned Forever from practicing Inedia but it is still very much that vibe. Shen Yuan thinks Caleb is a brute and Caleb thinks Shen Yuan is incredibly fussy which is very funny for a heavenly demon

It is an absolute looney toons display between the two the entire time they’re working together. The only one who would have been able to curb the nonsense is Elyse but they’re obviously stuck under Zayne’s tender care so they can’t

Caleb continues to be his militaristic self. He does not care for anything except getting the cure and getting back. And Shen Yuan also really wants to get the cure and get back but he also wants to sleep on a bed. It’s a point of conflict

Caleb doesn’t the understand what the issue is. Sure Shen Yuan looks a bit… rough. But so does he. He also doesn’t understand why Shen Yuan went on a mission with all that stuff anyway. He didn’t need it. It just slowed them both down. Caleb did them both a favor by lightening up the load and he was even gracious enough to preserve some of the brats modesty by finding him a new hair stick… by pulling one off of a branch. And the ungrateful little shit tried to stab him with it!

Sylus, taking one appraising look at the state of Shen Yuan, announces that between the things just he has bought and commissioned Caleb has cost the sect more than it is worth.

(Mobei-Jun’s eye starts to twitch)

And this doesn’t begin to cover what Binghe, Shen Yuan, and even Raf may have made that Shen Yuan was wearing.

It is also important to note that Shen Yuan does not dress himself and Binghe is pissed.

(He is more pissed about this man throwing Shen Yuan than the lost jewelry and baubles but Shen Yuan seems… fine? Irritated but? Okay? And Caleb is breathing and missing any obvious killing blows so something must have passed between the two of them that made it… well not fine but more fine than it would have been otherwise?

That doesn’t mean his Shidi gets to live through this without being fed his teeth but it is interesting all the same.)

Caleb just solidifies his stance that it shouldn’t have been on the mission then. If it was worth THAT much then it shouldn’t be going places where it could be lost. It’s just poor planning

Also… given Caleb’s backstory and EVER…

It is entirely possible Caleb and Shen Yuan actually have similar enough backgrounds for it to be A Thing

Like, tortured child experiment is in the same or at least a close vein to Shen Yuan’s experiences with the Qiu. Which… hmm…

Shen Yuan actually agrees and has in fact told Binghe and Sylus both that putting that much finery on him when he spends half his time crawling through the dirt looking for rare beasts is ridiculous kind of half demon emperor or not (his actual status in the demon realm is unclear. No one really knows what he is. Is Tianlang-Jun retired? Are they sharing? Is Shen Yuan as hands off as he claims to be? No one knows. All thy know is he holds about half of the power of all of the demon realm with his father controlling the south. They are treated, and adorned, accordingly.) but since it is Caleb saying it he is doubling down. How dare he don’t Shizun actually? What does he know? Stupid brutes don’t deserve options. Shut up.

It would take the near end of the world and actually having to save Elyse’s life for their shared pasts as child slaves/experiments/ whatever is going on with Caleb here specifically to come to light and for them to find some kind of common ground about it.

Not even that just enough of a truce for Caleb to realize what is happening, address the problem, and make Shen Yuan see that he is Not Qiu Jianluo in whatever way he thinks would work. Probably someway that is about as subtle as a gunshot. About as painful too.

They immediately go back to trying to beefing with each other. Too like there is no lasting truce this s showing they aren’t using lethal force before going to doing everything short of that.
