Itachi with Wei Wuxian laying on his chest babbling away about some complex concept or another smiling so serenely at him. It’s before they’re together, of course. Wei Wuxian doesn’t even realize what this position does to him. What having him this close does for Itachi’s control but Itachi wouldn’t change anything.

It’s only when there’s a break in Wei Wuxian’s endless flatting of talking that he realizes where his thoughts have gone at all. Only when he gives them voice that he feels the truth of them in his bones.

“If the worst happens, I want you to have my body.”

“EH!??!”

Wei Wuxian whips around so fast his ponytail hits them both in the face but neither of them seem to notice. Not as Wei Wuxian scrambles into Itachi’s lap to squish his face between his palms and frown down at him. “What are you talking about?! Don’t say that! You’re fine! My Itachi is the strongest. He won’t die!”

There’s something in those silver eyes that Itachi wouldn’t have expected given Wei Wuxian’s skills, his ease and familiarity with the dead, and the compassion he always showed them.

Fear.

Desperation.

Like he is terrified he is going to lose everything.

So Itachi pulled him down into a hug, pressing their bodies together until no space remained between them and Wei Wuxian could feel every beat of his heart resonating through both of their chests. “Your Itachi isn’t leaving you any time soon. I’m just being stupid. Forget I said anything.”

He should wind up bringing Kisame back to Konoha. Somehow. For funsies

The "yet" is killing me because it's making me think of Mu Qingfang sitting there watching Shen Yuan do something while also being fully aware that the last few threads of restraint that are keeping him from doing something colossally unethical are starting to fray in a very foreboding kinda way. Just a fully calm and professional, "hm. If this continues the way it is I am going to end up something very very *very* stupid." Kinda vibes.
