passage
(happy 10 years, undertale)
Azune Nayar is not someone who was failed in his youth by the adults around him.
Azune Nayar is someone whose childhood and youth were marked by adults who, faced with bad choices, made the less-worse one because they cared about him.
His parents starved themselves to give him and his sister the chance of being recruited as child soldiers by a mercenary group, because that was the only way to protect him from starvation.
Thjazi Fang saw a child abandoned by the roadside, desperately, determinedly, and implausibly claiming he could fight. Thazi Fang was in the middle of waging a rebellion against the powers of Araman. That rebellion wasnât the best place for a child of twelve. But it was a better place than abandoned by the roadside or picked up by another mercenary group, and Thjazi cared, so Thjazi took him in and assigned him to noncombat work away from the front lines.
By 15 Azune was fighting on the front lines. (In an earlier war, the same was true of Thazi at that age.)
Thjaziâs rebellion failed. He asked his brother Hal to look out for the teenage Azune. Hal did so, treating Azune as part of his family. Hal did the same for other people who needed it. Being like family wasnât the same as being Halâs kid.
The tragedy of Azune isnât that he was failed or abandoned or uncared for or used. The tragedy of Azune is that the best that people who cared about him could give him still wasnât the same as what he needed, because being an adult doesnât make you all-powerful. Azuneâs problems werenât created by those who loved him. They were created by the world he lives in.
Azune lived his adult life for the Torn Banner because it was the life he knew; or out of loyalty; or because they were the ones trying to change that world into something different.
He offers understanding and empathy to enemies (Julien) and strangers (Vaelus). He learned that somewhere.
He will self-immolate for a cause. He likely learned that from his parents, who did it for him, and from Thjazi, who did it for the same cause.
i love it when writers play sympathy chicken with me by making characters who suck for understandable reasons but are, like, so uncharismatic and regressive and genuinely difficult to root for about it. i love it when being a victim doesn't make someone a better person or motivate any kind of self reflection or improvement. i love it when people who were hurt respond in mundane, unromantically terrible ways that only make them more pathetic and repellent to others. i'm not even being ironic these are some of my favourite kinds of characters. can't say i'm as fond of what happens when they're introduced to a fandom though.
I wanna talk about bird lube NOW

batman: who are we to judge who deserves to live or to die. to murder one person is to go down a dangerous path. where does it end?
the gotham subway takes guy: 100% disagree
Beautiful fiancĂŠ and an ugly ass groom continuation
Iâm suddenly laughing at the idea of a cliche noir detective story written in the brutally concise style of Hemingway.
A woman walked into my office. She had legs. I noticed her legs. âI have a problem. I need your help,â she said. They always said that. I knew her legs werenât the problem. I hoped she might want my help with them anyhow.
âCan you pay?â I asked. Of course she could. Her shoes were worth more than my rent. She could pay. âI can pay,â she said. Her eyes were wet. I wondered if anything else was wet. Probably not. I am not handsome. Not since the war. She was looking at my scar. Lots of people do. Most look away. Not her. She did not look away. She looked at my scar and I looked at her legs. There were two of them. I liked that about her. I liked that a whole lot. âWill there be danger?â I asked. There always is. This city bleeds danger, then drinks it right back up again.
âIâm afraid there might be danger,â she said. She had the voice of a beautiful woman. She also had the face and body of a beautiful woman. She was beautiful.
The light from the window was striped. It made stripes on my cigarette smoke. The end of my cigarette crumbled into ash. My marriage had also crumbled into ash.
âI can handle danger,â I said. I patted the butt of my gun. My gun was a Colt. My gun and my scar were all that was left from my time as a soldier. My gun, my scar, and the nightmares. I looked her up and down. âI am good at handling things.â
âItâs about my husband. Heâs gone missing.â
She was not wearing a ring. It means something when a woman does not wear a wedding ring. Usually, it means that she is not married. âSeems your ring has also gone missing,â I said. I hoped her dress would join it.
Her red mouth curved upwards. She was smiling a little. âI donât wear it outside. A diamond that large would only invite trouble.â
âIn my experience, trouble doesnât wait for an invitation.â I looked at her legs again. They were both still there. âWhen did you last see your husband?â
my whole life i lived in a world where "cream" and "soured cream" existed and the difference between them was crystal clear right there in the name, but embarrassingly recently i learned that in my native language aka polish there is no "cream/soured cream" really there's. "Ĺmietana" and "ĹmietanKA" which translate to "cream" and "small cream"
[yeah yeah in spoken language we do say sour cream, other polish people proszÄ siÄ nie przypierdalaÄ okej, but I'm talking about the actual product in the store ok none of that shit ever calls itself "soured cream" apart from that one brand that calls itself soured cream in english] anyway knowing which one is which is NOT the issue actually. it's just that. I have a book of handwritten recipes that I collected over the years from different sources and because I was the one writing them down EVERY SINGLE RECIPIE CALLS FOR SOUR CREAM BECAUSE I WAS CALLING EVERYTHING ĹMIETANA
I DIDNT KNOW ĹMIETNA AND ĹMIETANKA ARE DIFFERENT I THOUGHT PEOPLE WERE BEING CUTE. I THOUGHT THEY CAME IN SMALL CONTAINERS WHICH IS WHY PEOPLE CALL IT ITSY BITSY CUTIE CREAM OK
HOW DO I MAKE THIS CHICKEN DISH
i have purchased both types of cream. i shall learn which one is the right one for this chicken today
fellas they're both good
Iceland is fucking bizarre my name change made the news
Like just @ me at this point I'm literally the only person in iceland (and very possibly the world) who has the first name Lauf
(Article title reads "Lauf and Birningur in group of new names in the name register")
No one lives here so now two of our biggest news outlets are vagueing about me lmao
Hmm you're right. Correction: two of our biggest media outlets are talking about me specifically because they are obsessed with me
This morning I showed up to work and my boss was like "congratulations :))" and I was kinda confused so asked her on what and she said "your name, I heard about it on the radio"
So far I have counted two online articles and apparently the radio is also talking about my name change so I'll keep you guys updated when I'm on national tv or something
With a little legwork we can make more people on Tumblr see this than the entire population of Iceland.

the youtube notification of ''ooohh your video isn't starting up smoothly???? turn off your ad blocker you cunt <3'' is so pathetic to me bc it takes five seconds max. you think i can't wait five seconds? you think i need to give you money because five seconds is too long? i pity your wife.
âShane just leave the closetâ I made a shrine of the closet before I even knew I was trapped inside it. the closet has become an effigy of my suffering inside the closet. If I leave the closet and everything is okay then why was I ever in the fucking closetâ and if everything goes how i think it will go, then i destroyed and betrayed my closet just for everyone to hate me for having been in the closet at all. âWell if you wouldâve come out soonerââ I made a shrine of the closet before I knew I was trapped. Is anyone even listening?
is the world really such a terrible place? yesterday i asked if oat milk was extra and the barista said yes so i said ok just regular milk then and when she gave me my chai latte she whispered âi used oat milk ;)â doesnt that make u want to live another day?
here is my life philosophy: next week there might be someone ahead of you in line at the store whoâs short a quarter and you have a quarter and you can give it to them. if you werenât there, theyâd have to put something back. the week after that you could be getting lunch and the waiter might ask if you want some pancakes someone else ordered and never picked up. you could find someoneâs lost cat. you could watch someoneâs bag while they go to the restroom. there are so many ways you are going to touch other peopleâs lives and they are going to touch yours and thereâs no way to know when itâs going to happen. so you have to keep living!!! i wouldnât want to die knowing that tomorrow the barista will give me free oat milk just to be nice.Â
When I was 11 years old - we went to Sea World for my birthday. This was to avoid the realization I had no friends, and no one to come to a birthday party and probably because someone gave my mother free tickets at work. It was kinda a shitty day despite being at a theme park full of cute animals. There was a new roller coaster there that had just opened so we decided to go on. I was nervous. Iâd never been on a roller coaster.
A group of 6 college kids were ahead of us in line and started chatting with me. Full on just having a fun conversation with someone literally going through the beginning of a very awkward middle school period. I was so shocked they wanted to talk to me. I think my mom mentioned it was my birthday. They were very nice about it. When we got on the ride they told us to go ahead of them so we could sit at the front of the car since it held 8 people.
Now the ride (called Journey to Atlantis - I believe it is sadly no longer there) started with a slow ride of beautiful visuals of dolphins and oceans and computerized images of this imaginary Atlantis before going up the hill to the beginning of the coaster, where it paused for about 30 seconds, and then the ride started. The college kids must have known there would be a pause. Maybe theyâd ridden it before Iâm not sure.
But as we sat there on that peak, 6 people Iâve never known, and will never know again, sang a very very lonely 11 year old happy birthday. Loudly. And with gusto. They were happy and laughing and joyful. And it made me feel less alone in the world.
I am 29 years old this year, and I still remember them. I still remember that kindness. It is so important. It doesnât go into a vacuum. It exists beside me in my daily life. And I love the idea that I have been that person to someone else too.
Itâs stunningly lovely to be human when weâre kind to each other.

You could buy out all the lemons in the store with your food stamps and I still wouldn't care!
To be fair I might care A LITTLE BIT, but thatâs entirely my problem and not at all your responsibility. If you are using your food stamps to buy ALL the lemons, you are CLEARLY going through something and all I can say is I am so sorry for whatever is going on in your life

Will humanity ever be free of the influence of Edna Mode? Can any of us so much as consider the character design for a hero or villain without her manifesting in the room, fully aware of our sins?
You know what, another layer of difficulty is when youâre thinking about villains, and the wise words of Megamind come into your head. You donât just want your child to be just a regular villain. But how do you make your villain a Supervillain with no cape? Where is the drama? But Edna says no capes, you must deny them the flair. It is impossible to please them both, and itâs tearing this family apart.
you. you get it.

Counteroffer: Big dramatic cloak to protect your identity that you drop on the floor before every fight
#there are two wolves inside you #one is edna mode #the other is megamind (@remnantofahero)Â
I canât believe the compromise is Obi-Wan Kenobi
âNo capes!â
âGame on, then.â
Okay, but I love that Gandalf is just dropping his cloak to reveal another, slightly smaller cloak underneath it.
