that scene in cap 2 when nick fury took that sharp turn and lost the fake cops after him and the gunshots subsided and his gps thing was like āgetting you to a secure locationā and you really thought, you Really Thought!!!! he was Safe But then it got TOO quiet and fucking ominous music started playing in the background and the previously unfocused camera focused on this dude, decked in ALL Black, in the middle of the fucking street, holding a fucking Bazooka, and He BLOWS up furys suv, sees it coming straight for him, and takes ONE(1) nonchalant step to the Side???: UNPARALLELEDĀ
#CA:TWS does a really good job of establishing charactersā competence BEFORE they tangle with the WS #Fury evades a coordinated death squad before the WS almost casually blows his car to shit #Steve takes out an entire elevator of STRIKE guys bare-handed before he fights the Soldier and barely holds his own #this also makes Pierce a FUCKLOAD scarier for being someone willing to slap the Soldier around #that movie did a really good job establishing charactersā skill/power levels by showing rather than telling #and they converted those insights directly into suspense in a way the MCU has never done again Ā Ā (via galwednesday)

straight person: but how do you Know when someone around you is gay?
me: today in yoga class our instructor said āthis exercise is about being straightā and i immediately said āiāve never been good at thatā and only one (1) woman laughed. she had four piercings in her ears. what else do you need me to tell you
Itās Trans Day of Visibility so: I filed the paperwork for my legal name change.Ā
Weāre here, weāre queer, fuck terfs.
āwhy are pillowfort/ao3 asking for money?? Tumblr and LJ are free!!!ā
y'all really donāt get how this works, huh?
Look y'all. Bottom line is large websites/web apps are fucking expensive
Itās not like a personal or small business site where you pay $25/mo for a shared hosting package and knock yourself out
You need multiple, dedicated, high-performance servers to handle a service like Tumblr or AO3, or Facebook, or what have you, to keep up with the insane amount of bandwidth and unfathomable amount of data.
Shit cost thousands of dollars a month. And those costs only go up the more users you have. Into the tens of thousands of dollars a month. Someone has to foot the bill for it. And that doesnāt include the salaries of the developers who pour hours of their time into making things function the way they need to.
ābut Tumblr used to not have ads!!ā you say! āThey just got greedy!ā
No, they didnāt ājust get greedyā. This is how free services work. They arenāt magically able to sustain themselves. At any point. Ever.
Investors see proof of concept during the infancy of a project, and they pour their moneyā hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollarsā to 1) help fund the project into maturity. (Maturity = stable performance and a large, growing userbase) and 2) have a seat at the table when big decisions are made
Until that point, you wonāt see ads, or be nagged to donate, or forced to pay a fee to access your content. Thatās no accident.
Investors eat the cost of running and developing the service, because they know that once that userbase has been established, they canā you guessed itā SELL YOUR DATA TO ADVERTISERS.
They canāt do that until after they have users for advertisers to sell their shit to!
Thatās how the investors make their money back, thatās how the service becomes profitable instead of being a giant cash pit.
So for the love of God, can we PLEASE stop slandering sites like AO3, Wikipedia, and now Pillowfort for having the audacity to ask for donations, or for having tiered/paid membership options for additional, non-essential features??
If youāre not paying, youāre the product

Something I saw on Twitter.
If you would report an undocumented immigrant to ICE you would have reported me to the Nazis and I donāt fucking trust you
A note:
I live in a state where you āhave toā report anyone you suspect of being undocumented (that wonderful hellhole of Arizona). Now in practice this law has fallen far short, thank goodness. But if you live in such a place and they start enforcing it, here is how you get around it:
Assume everyone who doesnāt speak English is visiting.
Never ask about their job, because if they tell you they work here then you know theyāre not visiting. You see them a lot for several weeks or months? Hm. Someone in the family must be ill. Thatās terribly tough. They always dress in old, ratty laborersā clothes? I feel you, my dude, I canāt afford new clothes either, and my dad has the fashion sense of an aardvark, so sometimes itās not even about āaffordingā them. They say theyāve been here for years? You must have misunderstood. Spanish isnāt your first language, after all. First and last name? It never came up, or you donāt recallāyou meet a lot of people.
And then, if youāre asked: no, you havenāt seen anyone residing illegally in the United States. Just people visiting.
Very good very important addition
Essentially, this is the civil society version of a work-to-rule strike.
Donāt do more than is expressly asked of you, and do what you are asked with such an intense attention to protocol that not asking you at all becomes more effective than even bothering.
In this case:
āHave you seen an illegal immigrant?ā
āCould you describe an illegal immigrant, officer?ā
*officer describes a person who is in the country without appropriate paperwork, or who has crossed the border illegally*
āNo, sir, I havenāt seen any illegal immigrant.ā
And this is correct. You have NOT seen an illegal immigrant, because you have no way of knowing if Jose Fulano is here legally or not. And since you canāt see his paperwork (or lack thereof), and did not personally see him cross the border illegally, you are only answering precisely the question asked.
Iām not American, and I have like, three followers, but this is important.
So, Iām a lawyer, who deals with immigration though does not specialize in it. But hereās the thing(s):Ā
1) Even someone whoās working could be here on a migrant (or other sort of) visa (hey, there are a few thousand per year, and *someone*ās got to get them, right?) or could be waiting for their case to resolve in immigration court, after having come to America to join a born or naturalized American family member.Ā
2) Even people who are working improperly could have come into the country legallyĀ ā and just overstayed their visa or be violating the conditions of their visa, and you have no idea what the niggly little regulations that govern that might be.Ā
3) If a law enforcement officer asks you about a neighbor/friend/etc., take this moment to remind them that, unlike them, you cannot ask a random person off the street for their ID and be entitled to a response.Ā
4) Even if someone has told youĀ that they are undocumented, you still donāt know, do you? Humans lie all the time. How could you know for sure? You canāt, because they canāt prove that they have a lack of papers. Just because you havenāt seen papers doesnāt mean they donāt exist!Ā
5) Donāt ever talk to cops in general. Why are you talking to a cop? Stop that, as soon as it is safe and feasible.Ā
Love,

i canāt believe that the plot to all three captain america movies was steve rogers telling the governmentĀ āfuck youāĀ so he could try & save his boyfriend bucky barnes.
Shout-out to my fellow Fandom Olds who lived through Strikethrough/Boldthrough on LJ and knew this day would eventually come here on Tumblr.com also
Especial shout-out to the heroes at AO3 who designed their whole operation knowing that every other platform fandom used would pull this bullshit sooner or later

Happy Hanukkah, everyone, from these two jerks! Iām posting this a little early this year. Line art by the amazing Ro Stein & Ted Brandt, and colour art by @deecunniffe.Ā
I want to point out what a technical achievement this story is on the art side. Thereās a real joy to creating a whole story in eight panels, but this? This is some magic. We introduce four new characters. In panel 5, SIX PEOPLE are talking. SIX. In the world of comics, thatās almost un-doable.Ā
Yet Ro and Ted arranged everything so the conversations flow and are sensibly grouped, all theĀ āactingā is fantastic, and then Dee laid on top these beautiful, almost fairytale colours ā look at the subtle work, the blush in Henryās cheeks, Frankās five o-clock shadow, the shine of the wine bottleās glass surface, the light texturing in the backgrounds⦠and of course the snow! This is some first-class illustration work on an incredibly hard script. (I fear Ro and Ted always get me at my worst ā my very formalist script for them in the 24 Panels anthology was no cakewalk either. (The problem is, theyāre just so damn good at it⦠check out their work on the Image comic Crowded!)
As always, if you like what we do in Hells Kitchen Movie Club, consider donating a little to a veteranās charity.Ā
(I also have a thriller novel Iām crowdfunding, please check it out, we are more than halfway there. The book is all writtenā¦)
