Random ideas that I thought of while going through life. I added some of these ideas to my idea journal. I also tried sketching and designing things. Note that I said I tried.
I thought of the sunscreen spray for those who love going to the beach, or going out in the hot sun in general, as it can coat the entire body, especially all the parts where a person could not reach. It is useful to avoid the pain of sunburn and avoids cancer from UV rays.
The temperature changing mug came about when I was thinking of drinking a warm drink while I was reading and when I reach out for my mug, the drink was cold. It spoils the mood, because warm drinks and good books goes well. SO, I have decided to create a mug that could remain the warmth of the mug, so the drink would never go cold.
The breast cancer awareness banners were thought of when our Mass Communication blog task requires us to think of a PR campaign for Pinktober. group of us were discussing on it and how it should look like, and I decided to draw it out for better visuals. We played with imagery and words to create a proper advertisement for the campaign.
One afternoon after class,me and a few friends were sitting down and I thought of drawing a portrait, so I did. I drew my friend, Matthias’ face. He was willing enough to sit still for quite sometime. Thanks Matt.
Choose:
Not all ideas are good, don’t be afraid of throwing them out. We need to eliminate things that would/could not help us in any way. If it is hard for you to throw it away, keep in for future use, as you may never know when you might need it. Even so, sometimes it is better to clean up your ideas to make space for new ones.
Make:
It’s not enough to just think of ideas, you should create your ideas and make it into a physical form. Don’t just think of an idea, instead make a physical copy of it. Write it down or record your thoughts somewhere. It helps and you can revisit them later.

Team Malevolent for our final assignment, story telling!
We made a short horror romance themed story and it is up on youtube!
In the first picture, from left to right: Lai Poh Yee, Charlotte Liew Shu Yi, Chak Tze Xin, Amanda Low Nyin Qing, Sarah Anak Paul (me).
I definitely learned a lot of things from this story telling assignment, because I had to prepare my own personal storyboard and a group storyboard as well.
I find that creating a story takes up a lot of time and effort. It takes a lot of brain power to think of a story that has never been created before as well. I end up making 10 stories. Some of them are the typical stories, and some are uncommon. I tried thinking of stories with different genres for a more creative effect.
Even so, it really is hard. We then have to act for the video. The whole process of filming really is hard and tiring due to time constraints and weather issues. Sucks that we could not control the weather. I edited the video as well, and there were some issues with the audio, that I know I could improve on.
All in all, it was a good experience as I got to work with new people and also learn new aspects of filming, acting and editing. It has given me a plus in those sectors, and I am happy for my team for putting a lot of effort.
I am not that good in drawing, yet I tried. This is our storyboard proposal for our film Malevolent. It shows the important scenes throughout the film, and the development of the plot and characters.
The first storyboard introduces William who is thinking while spinning a black ring in his hand, the windchime being blown by the wind and Kate who noticed the windchime for the first time.
Storyboard two shows William stalking and thinking whether he should go after Kate, and them meeting for the first time and going on dates. It also shows William giving Kate the windchime as their 100th day anniversary.
Storyboard three shows Scarlet wanting to kill Kate, William and Kate celebrating their 100th dinner date together, and this is also the part where William blindfolds Kate which leads to killing Kate and eating her heart. We used shadow play for this part to make it more scary.
Storyboard four shows the flashback of Scarlet and William in their happy days, and on their 100th day anniversary. This is also the storyboard with the scene where they fight and killed each other. The last shot shows Scarlet pointing at her next victim for William to seduce and kill.
These are our character introductions and traits. Amanda Low Nyin Qing acting as William, Chak Tze Xin as Kate, and Sarah Anak Paul (me) as Scarlet. Acting as these characters has taught us a lot, and we faced a lot of challenges as we have no experience in acting. These are some shots from the shooting.
This is my group proposal for the final story telling assignment. We explained our roles, prototype, timeline, inspiration, setting, themes, moral values, challenges, accomplishments and why we would like to make this film. A brief synopsis is included as well.
This is just a scratch on the surface of how the real proposal looks like. This is my individual perspective and views on the project and how I think it turned out. The real proposal was thicker and filled with information on everything there is to know on our film.
There are five people in our group (including me) and we all have our own duties. Our team leader is Charlotte, Amanda, Tze Xin and me as actresses, Poh Yee is the technological camerawoman, and she alternates between me and Charlotte. The editor is me. Our film is romance horror based, and it’s setting is a cryptic tree on campus where a windchime sways in the wind. We took up to 4 days to finish everything, as explained in our timeline.
We experienced a few challenges along the way and we got through it and finished filming, as challenges are unpredictable and cannot be controlled. We achieved a lot even from a small production. I am positive my team feels accomplished based on what we have done.
I added the real picture for how our setting looks like, as per our video.

Continuation post.. story 9 and 10.
Brief Summary
Story 9
A historical love story set in ancient China, where women were married at a young age, and arranged marriages was a common thing, that should be obeyed by every girl. A daughter of a wealthy merchant does not believe in that and wishes to find her own love. An architect designed a house and a windchime specially to get her attention, as he respects her decision and fancies her.
Story 10
A fantasy story where a group of boys were reported missing from a campsite, and it was rumoured that they were kidnapped by ghosts. Hence, a ghost hunting team camped there and got transported into a second dimension by an ancient windchime by the tree. They were put into prison and were most likely to get eaten or sold.
Continuation of my previous post.. This is story 6, 7 and 8.
Brief Summary
Story 6
This is set in a post apocalyptic setting where the world has no trees and all that is left are black charred stumps and burnt soil. A group of scientists were sent to a newly found world located under earth, where new species of flora and fauna has started to grow, to find the perfect plant that could survive the heat and make the world green again.
Story 7
An action based story line with a line up of different gangs going after a rare expensive plant placed in a rare and expensive windchime pot. Different gangs were after it for different reasons- money, love, health- the government has sent agents to stop it , and a rogue vampire steps into the scene and changes everything.
Story 8
A classical love story about boy falls in love at first sight, or in this case, at first smile. They grew up together and went to all the same schools. They ended up in the same university, and joined the same performing arts club. He is a jealous, possessive, loving person, and he vows to keep her happy.
Continuation of my previous post... This is story 3,4, and 5.
Brief Summary:
Story 3
It is a love story with a sad ending. A boy was attracted to a windchime in a store that sells handmade items. She never sells the windchime and requested for 3 wishes in exchange of the windchime. The man complied and got the windchime in the end, yet realised he loves her. By then, it was too late. The girl is gone, and the windchime is a constant reminder of what he could never have.
Story 4
Tells the story of the history of windchimes. It is documentary based and is fully informative on the origins and practices of using the windchime in Asia. It focuses more on China and Japan as that is where it is more prominently used.
Story 5
Is a story based in the future on how a few scientists discovered an ancient windchime in a cave that they are excavating. They found out that the windchime had healing properties and used it to heal the mentally ill. Even so, the windchime brought too much calm and peace in a person that it makes them feel no panic or nervousness, even at the thought of getting hurt and dying.
For our story telling assignment, we were told to create a few stories, and pick the best to film. This is my individual proposal and ideas that I have thought of. I wrote 10 stories, and these are the first two. I wrote the synopsis, explanation and storyboard for all the stories.
Brief summary:
Story 1
This story is based on two bestfriends and a windchime. Emma left Annie and gave her a windchime as a going away present. Annie stares at the windchime and the chimes reminds her of Emma’s laughter which then leads to flashbacks of their moments together.
Story 2
A story on how an old mentally ill grandmother which resides in a windchime hung in her room slaughters everyone in her family, except for her favourite granddaughter which later then was placed in a mental institution due to her grandmother’s frequent visitations. She then lost herself and committed suicide.
Story telling. Basically in this assignment, we were told to form 10 storyboards and ideas of any genre and setting based on our prototype. My prototype was a windchime (based on the fuse assignment). We are told to tell a story and plan it out.
After figuring out what are our ideas, we are formed into groups, and the group members get to choose which story they want based on everyone’s prototype and storyboards.
My team, decided to go with my prototype and create a new storyboard instead. We call ourselves Team Malevolent (for various reasons that shall be explained later). As a team, we are required to create a minimum 5 minute video, and we can choose what kind of theme, genre and setting we would like. Everything is totally up to us.

Play 2nd Practice:
Improvise within a time constraint. Sometimes, working under pressure works wonders, thus people tend to put off their work until the last minute. That is one reason. The other reason is people are natural procrastinators, and love to relax. Sometimes when pressured, our minds work harder and your focus would be invaluable, which is why deadlines are set.
Play 3rd Practice:
Creative play can result in creative outcomes and the desired solution. This lecture taught me to randomly play with anything as we never know what we could accidentally create. Just by playing with two ideas, we could create new ideas and objects that the world may never have seen/ thought of before.
Think:
Do not restraint your possibilities. Think big and do not cage yourself to the four walls of a classroom. Thinking out loud and recording your ideas could prove to be a brilliant move. We are also taught the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking which is fluency (the quantity of the ideas), flexibility (the stretching of ideas, think what if?), originality (the uniqueness, synthesizing and generating ideas), elaboration (critical analysis, enhancing and making the ideas better)
Fuse:
Look for weird unexpected combinations, as successful ideas always comes from many combinations. We were told to force fuse (which I did with a book and umbrella), and other practices are to create analogies and people mash up (which we did not do, but could if we want to)
For our Fuse assignment, we were introduced to a new method of exploring ideas and it is quite interesting and easy to use. I feel accomplished throughout this assignment as I really put in my all and tried my best to come up with something useful and creative.
I came up with a three in one prototype that is simple and mobile. It can be used anywhere and anytime. I guess that is the bonus point on my prototype. I did a lot of thinking in trying to find something unusual that people have not yet discovered and demand for. It is challenging in that area.
Using the SCAMPER method did help in branching out my ideas and succeeding in creating a prototype. I made this in about a day, which is fast as I said, it is simple.
