Whenever I see people talk about lok katara theyre like "oh she seems so sad and lonely, its because her husband is dead :(" and im like fuck off!! Yes she IS obviously sad and lonely, and the writers probably wanted us to think it was because of his death. But the way they wrote it, it looks more like it's because she was pigeonholed into the role of The Avatar' Wife above all else, she was never given credit for any of her efforts post war, she was left ALONE to take care of two children while her husband played favorites with the youngest which ultimately revealed that he subconsciously devalued her culture (which was always very important to her!), and her beloved brother's role as a nonbender. He spends the entirety of the og series struggling to control his emotions, he never learns, never grows, and she takes it upon herself to make sure he doesn't kill their friends when they disagree on something. She spent the majority of her life playing mama to a guy who forced himself on her immediately after she told him no. She coddles him and works so hard to love him only for him to say "you wouldnt understand" and discredit her at every turn. And then! He died relatively young and by then the kids were all living their own lives! She IS lonely, she IS sad, and by lok she has been for fucking DECADES because literally nobody prioritized her feelings or took care of her almost ever. Even in her old age shes babysitting her grandkids and healing her husband's next incarnation who STILL fucking yells at her and hits her with the angry emo brooding bs. Its a classic example of a woman being whittled down to nothing because of her marriage. She gives and gives and gives and nobody gives back. She doesnt even really have contact with her friends that we know of. "Oh their relationship was so beautiful look how sad she is that he's gone" FUCK! YOU!
