❀˖° The Cullen Girls (& Bella) °˖❀
My favorites ღ Alice and Rosalie’s fashion senses were a bit hard for me, as I feel like Alice dresses like this and in more billowy, lighter outfits, and Rosalie can gravitate for a more casual style (rather than always sticking to the office chic, ‘30s silhouette as I drew here). Let me know which style suits both of them better!

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON (2009) — dir. Chris Weitz
You are a student at Forks High.
Your teacher is randomly assigning a group project. It's going to be major part of your grade. For the purposes of this question, assume this class is some sort of elective that has a mix of juniors and seniors.
Which group do you want to be part of?
Rosalie, Eric, Bella
Edward, Mike, Jessica
Lauren, Jasper, Angela
Tyler, Emmett, Alice
I like the idea that some vampires become obsessively fixated on children and childlike things because they see children as a perfect representation of the innocence and purity they no longer have. It's delightfully eerie to think about a rash of immortal children, of vampires becoming so obsessed with possessing a child's purity that they steal the rest of that child's life and erase everything they ever could have become in order to keep them in a state of perpetual innocence. And I do like the implication that the Cullens themselves are slightly warped in this same way.
However. I absolutely do not think Stephanie Meyer recognized any of these traits in her characters. I'm almost positive she thought shit like Rosalie being attracted to Emmett as a lover because his boyish features reminded her of the son she could never have was a totally normal and relatable thing to write and we would all find it extremely romantic.

i sent an ask a while ago about how i don't think it really makes sense that so many vamps are down to murder. been thinking about it lately, wanted to share a concept, because i generally enjoy your insightful responses :)
canonically, the pain of transformation is remembered perfectly. it's also, obviously, the most painful thing imaginable. from bella's pov, the burn in her throat is comparable to the burn of transformation, just concentrated in one place. i really like the idea of the transformation being so unbelievably traumatizing (which like, it should be, but it's never written that way) that the throat burn isn't just physical agony, but psychological. like, anything but that, anything but that burn again, even if it's not actually the same thing. it's not just wanting to avoid the pain, it's a built in neurological pathway to avoid the trauma. still doesn't explain all the cullens, but that's smeyer's limitations lol. whatever, it would explain why more would be willing to handwave their morals. anyway. just some thoughts that i enjoyed!
I agree, I think it makes sense that there is some sort of biological reset that sort of forces, or at least tries to force, the human blood diet. Otherwise way more people would pull a Carlisle and opt out. I just don't buy that 99% of people, upon becoming a vampire, would be instantly on board with killing people otherwise. I think it makes sense that eventually most people would come to terms with it and rationalize it, but I have a hard time thinking it's an instant flipped switch in the brain.
I think the newborn intense thirst is one way of accomplishing that and your idea of the pain of that thirst triggering the memory of the painful transformation fits into that was well! After a year or so of that I can see most people just being like, well, I've already killed so many people it's just easier to accept my reality than feel bad about it or what am I supposed to do? That pain of thirst is so terrible I HAVE to quench it, what other option is there?
And the thing is? Pre-BD I thought it WAS that hard! I thought what Carlisle did was near miraculous, and Rosalie too! I thought a large part of their success was that they, and Edward, on some fundamental level hated/rejected being vampires and that was what helped them override the newborn programing to a certain degree. But then we get Bella, and it's so easy for her, and she LOVES being a vampire and feels like her true self and that's like, not at all how I pictured the newborn experience and makes it all seem way easier than I was previously led to believe.

do you think red eyed vampires in the lore fighting the red eyes of their loved one pretty, the same way bells finds edward golden eyes really pretty?
I'd like to think so!
Bella rhapsodizes about Edward's specific golden eyes and golden eyes more generally, using words like honey, amber, butterscotch, topaz etc etc. But I like to imagine that to most other vampires, the golden eyes look ~off or sickly. I don't think the usual reaction to a vampire seeing Carlisle for the first time or whatever is: "Wow! What pretty eyes!" it's probably more like "What is wrong with you? Is it contagious?"
Along those same lines, I'd imagine that most vampires think the darker red eyes of other vampires are attractive, or at least a sign of 'health' and proper diet. They might describe them like fine wine or rubies.
The bright red of a newborn could signal 'caution' but as I mentioned in the post the other day, I wonder if it might also be 'cute' in the way that it reads "baby vampire." In those instances like Siobhan finding Liam, do they see the bright eyes and react like a human might to a feral kitten? Like "Aww . . . I have to be careful with you because you're hissing and biting but you're Just a Baby and need help."

Things grow on top of other things in the rainforest, but this giant fallen fir stood out to me. Guessing the trees it's hosting are around 50 years old? Just made me wonder how old this monster was when it toppled. The Hoh Valley has some truly ancient trees, that's for sure. Y'all should check it out.
thank god the uley pack tattoo wasn't a thing in the books, imagine Jacob and co. having to remove or cover up that GIGANTIC circle with the biggest boldest lines.
having said that here's how I think they'd do it:
Leah would get it removed immediately she'd book laser sessions 3 seconds after leaving the pack and then tattoo something else on the same place, she never wants to be associated with that pack ever again.
Jacob would get it removed over time, he doesn't really care it's there but he goes with Leah and ends up getting it himself. halfway through he just gives up and gets a nice cover up. maybe a full sleeve.
Embry gets one of those cover ups where it's just bold red lines on top of the black, makes it look intentional like a work of art but it's a 'fuck you' to them.
Quill gets it removed without telling anyone and acts like he never had a tattoo to begin with.
Seth fortunately was too young to get it done in the first place so he's just cruising.
