can’t BE ABANDONED by others if you’re the one DOING THE ABANDONING.
Didn’t you say that you were different? Didn’t you? I am, I am… Say you aren’t that person. Say it! I am, I am…
please, be patient with me
I’m still learning how to trust
@ofmyownpack replied to your post: How long have you wanted to be a csi?
Oh, damn. You're a CSI? Watch out for Regan. I've heard she's a handful. (Just kidding). I'm Miles. I work for the police department too.
Almost got me there, haha! But wow, hi! Lots of new names and faces today. Nice to meet you, I’m Ruth Mathers. Are you a CSI as well?
@kadavernagh replied to your post: How long have you wanted to be a csi?
You're a CSI here? I should probably introduce myself. Dr. Kavanagh, taking over for Dr. Kent, who -- well, you know. Died.
Oh, hi! I’m Ruth Mathers. And yeah, I work as a CSI here now, just moved here. But, wait, what was that about Dr. Kent?

name your worst fear: go
Oh. Um, I guess change? I don’t really do well with change. Which is ironic, considering I moved here a few weeks ago.
How long have you wanted to be a csi?
Oh, boy! Well, I’ve always loved science, and then I kinda graduated from loving science to forensics specifically so... Maybe since I was in my early teens?
Name: Ruth Mathers Species: Human Occupation: Crime Scene Investigator Age: 29 Years Old Played By: Call Face Claim: Candice Patton
“Look, I may not be a cop but…that’s it, that’s the end of the sentence, just cooperate with me here, alright? I promise I’ll be out of your hair - and your house, sorry about this, really - soon.”
Ruth Mathers was born in Atlanta, Georgia and was known immediately by her playmates and neighbors as “that loud, reckless girl”. Or worse, depending on how callous they were about their vocabulary around her. She didn’t mean to offend anyone, but Ruth had a hard time letting little things go and she found that while having few friends was a lonely way to live, it was better that way because she was good at doing things on her own. Group projects wound up devolving into fights when she insisted on doing all the work or going above and beyond.
It might’ve been because of her mother leaving when she was four, abandoning her strict, no-nonsense father to take care of his children on top of his own business in Atlanta. It might’ve been because she only received attention if she consistently pressed for it, if she asked questions no one else would, if she didn’t choose to “leave things be”, as she was asked multiple times.
Whatever the reason, Ruth threw herself into school, and if she was sent to detention or the principal’s office on occasion because of her unwillingness to stop looking into anything ranging from biology projects to whether the vice principal was having an affair with the math teacher…
Well, she considered it a win in her books for both the attention she received and the knowledge gained.
Then her father died when she was a month into college and Ruth’s world shifted once more. She went back home for the funeral and to sell the house before focusing on school again, this time doubling down on any desire for companionship or attention. She hardly had any family left and even they were pushed away out of a need to pursue the facts and the truth. By the time Ruth applied for a position as a CSI in White Crest, she was convinced she was on the right track. A small town with plenty of opportunity to embrace her job and few distractions. It sounded perfect.
Unfortunately, White Crest wasn’t forgiving toward her outgoing personality or willing to accept her stubbornness and curiosity. From the strange cases given thus far, most of which sounded implausible from a rational standpoint, and her coworkers’ indifference toward her pursuit of the facts, Ruth found herself floundering to prove herself and her methods. Even if she had to resort to her less-than-likable tactics of prying the truth out of people (most notable, but limited to, breaking and entering), she would get the answers she needed. Not just for her own peace of mind, of course, but for the poor victims in her cases.
Character Facts:
Personality: Obstinate, clumsy, observant, lonely, sarcastic, blunt, independent, kind, curious
Ruth isn’t usually open about the subject but she is bisexual. Due to her father’s views that she grew up with, she is tentative to express herself, however, and is typically fine (albeit uneasy) with letting people make assumptions about her love life.
She has a twin brother named Jackson, though they haven’t spoken since she was a sophomore in college. Ruth hardly dares to guess where he’s been these days, but she wonders sometimes.
She’s not too sure if she actually believes there are monsters and the like lurking in White Crest. Ruth likes to rely on logical explanations, even if her curiosity gets the better of her. Still, it’s intriguing to think about something out there hiding in plain sight.
Ruth has anxiety and ADHD. Occasionally she has panic attacks, but they don’t come frequently unless she’s truly terrified or overworks herself until stress becomes her only emotion.
While she is a CSI, Ruth is a quick learner when it comes to using a gun herself. It’s a worst case scenario option she hopes she never has to use, but given the chilly reception upon her arrival and all this talk of monsters, she’s less inclined to brush this skill off as useless.
Fortune Teller reading my palm: It just says “yikes.”
You ‘never wanted things to turn out this way’? Maybe you should have thought about that before you ensured they’d become this way.
