“Coral isn’t a bad mom, she’s just protective!” I’m sorry but I’m genuinely worried if you consider
- Neglecting 40+ sons for the majority of their childhoods
- Neglecting even the daughter she was oh so protective of and completely ignoring the obvious signs said daughter was being groomed by her instructor
- Exposing Anemone to bad behaviors (openly flirting with Whirlpool while thinking Gill was still alive and a prisoner of war, killing servants in fits of rage, dragging her along to see dead bodies)
- Threatening to take away her freedom of speech when she tried expressing her discomfort (muzzling her)
- Threatening to kill her long lost daughter if her last egg died
- Imprisoning Tsunami (and her sibling figures/friends twice)
- Letting Anemone be used as a weapon of war despite knowing the rumors and mental risks
okay and/or simply “protective” behavior. Yes she is trying to improve and acknowledge all her children more, but for the majority of their childhoods her kids have known her as overbearing, neglectful, and controlling (or just absent in general). That’s just about it. She wasn’t protective, she was controlling.
- Making a fool out of Tsunami on the council gathering
- Lying to her face knowing Tsunami doesn't know aquatic (makes me suspect she made sure Whirlpool didn't teach her shit either)
And it makes imprisoning her worse, because Coral knows Tsunami doesn't know anything about SeaWings and has a nonzero chance of running into the eel infested pool and killing herself
I wanna go ahead and also take a sec to mention how while she might be considered a financially successful queen, and Scarlet and Wasp and Battlewinner make her look like a saint, she is a shit one nonetheless.
- Has been shown to get bothered more over blood on her floors than her LITERAL SOLDIERS DYING IN FRONT OF HER
- Believes in class superiority and eugenics as established by one of her poems
- God knows how many guards/servants she’s killed cruelly just because they were starving, dying, or drugged
- Just saying Riptide wouldn’t have gone looking for the Talons of Peace nearly as much if the kingdom didn’t treat him like his dad.
- Not to mention the Seawing supremacy propaganda with her “how we ended the war” writing despite her coward ass doing jack shit
Again I get she was going through shit at the time, but that doesn’t fucking excuse her from anything, she’s a shit mom, queen, AND wife I’d like to argue
Which yeah let’s talk about Gill!
- Based on her beliefs we know she likely only married him for a few reasons
- His looks, his status, and because he glazed her writing (Gill is kind of shitty too but at least he wasn’t going around tossing servants to sharks if they were dying)
- As Gill BEGGED for Coral not to execute his guards, she just went “too late” and executed them anyway
- Despite claiming to care and grieve for him so much, and miss him so much during the war, she’s openly fucking flirted with Whirlpool, and even if the plan was to marry him to one of her daughters, that’s just filthy all around and a disgrace to Gill who was losing his marbles and trying to survive in the arena.
