About your WoF AU, I’m very curious about Magic and dragons who are mixed between more than two tribes, could you tell me about these topics👁️
Sorry I don't have my tablet so pencil it is.
Im still working on the magic mechanics but as I mentioned in the seawing post its kind of like an extra force/phenomenon they have alongside gravity etc. Trying to make it do something with spoken spells can range from being relatively natural and easy like gravity to being more like trying to model turbulence, you can kind of figure out where its going to go and manipulate the variables (your spell words) to get things to happen but there's so much that you don't know that the results are not always going to be what you expect (resulting in things like curses or mutation accidents). Magic spells can't exactly be taught, you have to See them in the world around you, in dreams, etc. You can be made aware of them, but only other magicians can even hear spells and even then they cant speak it until theyve encountered that word themself. There are no set categories for it, but there are limits to what a magician can do (related to how against the rules of reality the spell they're trying to cast is. You can't turn back time, for example. But you can light plain ol water on fire if you have the word).
All hybrids are created via the same magic Mix'n'change spell that the dragons have baked into them as a result of their origins from the magic Event that reshaped their world (fun fact: some magicians are temporary shapeshifters who utilize spells with similar components to this!) Nonhybrids work the same way, but the spell there doesn't do as much work because it doesn't see anything to "mix" because the two dragons are of the same group already. As shown in the image, hybrids between multiple dragon groups can go different ways.
The dominant traits (that is, body shape and definitive traits of the dragon group like face shape, gills, presence or lack of feathers etc) always belong to the mother, so the skywing-icewing hybrid has the body shape of a skywing but has the feathers, colors, and maybe some claw or teeth differences from the icewing father. If that hybrid were to have a kid with a non hybrid, the traits of the kid depend on who the mother was. If the hybrid was the mother, their dominant trait that hybrids mother will pass on to the kid and mix with the closest compatible trait in the father to make a new hybrid (in this example, the dominant skywing body shape mixed with mudwing traits). If the nonhybrid is the mother, then their dominant traits will mix with the most compatible part of the hybrid and make a new hybrid (in the example, a mudwing looking dragon with icewing traits because mudwings are more compatible with icewings than they are with skywings).
The kid of two hybrids will have the mother hybrids dominant traits, but rarely they may start showing traits of everything that's mixed in (so hints of all three sky, mud, and icewing in this example if either of the hybrid kids had a kid with another sky/mud/ice hybrid, or other traits if it's with another hybrid etc)
It's not an exact science because it's magic so they can look like whatever. Also I still need to figure it out lol
