I agree wholeheartedly with every point above but I watched this first with the sound off because I forgot that was an option and what struck me most is how efficient Luke's lightsaber style is. Almost every flourish he makes and all of what, 2 entire spins?, is defensive to better parry blaster fire while nearly every offensive swing he makes is basically a head or chest level kill shot. If I had to make a guess about his character I'd say this vintage twink has probably Seen Some Shit and maybe comes from a background where resources are scarce and help is far away so if you get in a fight you have to end it before it starts or you're dead meat

Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.
And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"
I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.
Always bugs me seeing Chibnall fans use 12 and his relationships to justify how poorly written and developed 13 and her companions are, that because 13 is so closed off because of the losses 12 suffered. One of the key lessons of 12's run, and that era overall, was that losing people hurts, and it is something everyone will go though eventually, the Doctor was no different than anyone else, but you shouldn't push people away to avoid that pain.
"Times end, River, because they have to. Because there's no such thing as happy ever after. It's just a lie we tell ourselves because the truth is so hard." "No, Doctor, you're wrong. Happy ever after doesn't mean forever. It just means time. A little time."
River and the Doctor didn't live happily ever after, but they were together for a time and they were happy, and the Doctor would've missed out on all that if they'd kept running away. The loss of River and Clara deeply hurt 12, but they were able to overcome it and forge new friendships, and even after everything that happened with Bill, Missy and Nardole, when they were on the verge of committing suicide, they found the strength to keep going, to become someone new, but not before passing on some hard won wisdom.

Unfortunately, it feels like Chibnall only heard "Laugh hard, run fast" part of that speech and not the " be kind" part. 13 was inconsistently closed off solely for lazy drama that never went anywhere and never resulted in any kind of substantial change for her character or anyone else's or any sense that 13 truly understood how damaging those actions were. It was just sloppy, careless character writing that wasn't informed by what the previous Doctor went through and didn't really understand their story, just knew some basic facts.

When comparing Chibnall era to RTD2:
Chibnall's Who is a bad show. Its poorly written and poorly made. Very few elements of it work.
RTD2 is an insulting show. Yes elements of it work. There is very real promise there. But it hurts more.

Chibnall Who: characters are undeveloped, the Doctor is undeveloped, stakes are either stupidly high where nothing is resolved in a satisfying way or stupidly low where the resolution is also stupid, all the queer rep has to be a cop for some reason, Pete McTighe is there, the politics are either incoherent or offensive, character development from previous seasons are completely undone, the acting is terrible, and all of its good ideas are buried under terrible execution
RTD2: characters are either undeveloped or thrown under a bulldozer, the Doctor is thrown under a bulldozer, the episode is paced like a "Best of" tiktok, nonbinary people apparently don't exist, buzzwords are there to make people mad and generate content, Pete McTighe is there, the politics are SHIT, satisfying character endings are undone and actively made worse, the acting is trying its absolute damnedest to make the script work, and beloved classic who villains are run through the rtd cgi world-destroying monster factory
Chibnall had an entire hour and completely failed to make me care about any of these companions

Engages in a variety of ritualistic actions that have no clear purpose beyond being conspicuously weird Â
Maintains a large and well-appointed household in spite of the incongruous total or near-total lack of any visible household staff Â
Has a super complicated backstory which is literally never relevant to the actual plot Â
Makes it incredibly obvious that theyâre the baddie, but it takes forever for the principal characters to figure it out because theyâre all idiots Â
Has a predilection for shitty wordplay Â
Eats people
If you trim about twenty percent out of this list, you get Adam West Batman.
