now i should be deeply sobered by the fact that the innocent 12yo from book 1 learned how to use blood magic in tartarus. instead the only thing i'm thinking about is how if percy figured it out like a year or two in advance, Kronos and his dumb 'my skin is invulnerable your stupid sword can't kill me' gag would have been so fucking cooked. like come on the potential. can you imagine kronos acting all cool and macho and then this random 14 year old skater just starts bloodbending the shit out of him

I think making Nico having a crush on Percy was a really bad character choice as it waters all of Nico’s complicated actions down to a childhood crush.
To preface, this isn’t me saying Nico shouldn’t be gay. I think his queerness fits wonderfully with his character, I just wish it was done in a different way.
In both HoH and BoO—though mostly BoO—whenever Nico’s past and even current actions are mentioned, there’s frequently some kind of implication that his motivation has something to do with his feelings for Percy. For example, in BoO, Nico mentions that he got Percy to bathe in the Styx because he believed it would make Percy love him. I dislike this because originally Nico wanted Percy in the Styx for two reasons. One was that he genuinely wanted to help in the war because he does have a good heart. The second was that he was desperate for information on his dead mother and past that he feels constantly looms over him. It was a situation where Nico wanted to help but also couldn’t resist the urge to get some kind of information about his own life. I feel it really encapsulated the complexity of both his character and him and Percy’s dynamic. Then it was watered down to ‘I want Percy to love me!’
Another example is in HoO, where Frank says, ‘I guess we would do anything for the people we love’, to which Nico replies by looking at the ground bitterly and saying, ‘Yeah, I guess we would.’ This line was foreshadowing his crush on Percy, somewhat implying that he agreed to lead the seven to the House of Hades because Percy asked him to. Have we thought that maybe Nico did it because he knew it was right..? He knew that it would benefit the world..?
Also, ALL throughout Nico’s perspectives in BoO, Percy is constantly mentioned. He is constantly centred in situations where he should be completely irrelevant. I’m not saying I hate his characterisation in HoO. There are some parts I believe are absolutely gold, such as him killing Bryce Lawrence for threatening Reyna, gaslighting Percy in SoN because he knew it everything was about timing, the showcasing of his intelligence in both political and battlefield environments…. but gosh some of it is awful.
Maybe I’m looking into it too much, but it feels like Nico’s crush implied that he bases a large portion of his reasoning and morality on Percy. It completely takes away from the previous complexity we have seen in his decision making process, which was dictated by a mixture of desperation, cold logic, and grief.
Anyway, I will continue to pretend the cupid scene never happened and Nico and Percy maintained the wonderful dynamic we saw in the first series.

I've always loved the idea of Percy being more present in TOA and Percy slowly falling in love with Apollo after seeing how mature and kind he is now. Just two silly babies learning together and loving each other a lot
Apollo has a crush on Percy after the events of The Last Olympian (because who wouldn't?) the thing is that, the crush is not that serious. Apollo just wants to go on a couple of dates, kiss here, kiss there if you know what I mean. Apollo just wants to brag about how he got the hero of Olympus first. And Percy knows it. Percy doesn't even like Apollo, he doesn't like any god. Yes, they said they'll try to change but that doesn't mean they stopped being so vain or that Percy is obligated to like them now. So he just rejects Apollo every time. Apollo's a little offended, but whatever, he can have anyone he wants, it's Percy's loss.
Whomp whomp, TOA happens, Apollo's now in the pathetic body of Lester Papadopoulos and is there knocking on Percy Jackson's door. Sure Percy rejected him before but that doesn't mean he wouldn't help him. Perhaps he could use his charms (or what's remaining) and convince him. (It doesn't work)
Percy just agreed to take them to Camp because he wanted to help Meg, he couldn't care less about Apollo. Meg reminds Percy of himself, of how lost and alone he felt when he was her age. He didn't want to go to another suicidal quest but he would help here and there and visit camp to see everything is okay, but if, and only if the situation gets tough he would personally help the god and Meg. Besides, Percy won't admit it, but he cannot stand the thought of spending time with Apollo, the guy is so arrogant it's painful. Percy still remembers Apollo's awful haikus, and how all of them were just words like "me", "bright" and "amazing". Sure he was hot, but every time he opens his mouth the magic fades away completely. But gods are just like that, arrogant, vain and self-centered...
Every day that passes just leaves very clear how wrong Apollo was about everything. He always thought he was happy, but now it seems he wasn't actually feeling anything at all. He was just chasing after any quick emotion, like cheap drugs, and he thought that was enough. Maybe he was so scared of what happens when you open your heart and let yourself feel. He never liked the consequences of caring about someone. Perhaps that's why he tried to convince himself he didn't care that Percy said to his face that he would never date him. It's just my ego, he thought. That's why it hurts. Sure. Yeah. Or maybe... he really liked Percy, but he wasn't ready for that type of commitment. He wanted it simple back then, but now he's sure about it, he really really likes Percy Jackson. It's a shame that the demigod won't even give him a second look. Apollo knew he didn't deserve him, but gods, he would do anything for just a simple date or a small conversation. Anything that proves to Percy that Apollo's a new god now. He kept thinking more about Percy rather than focusing on his deadly quests, or that's what Meg says, plus of how pathetic he looked whenever he thinks of the son of Poseidon.
As promised, Percy visits camp Half-blood all the time, he wanted to make sure the mission was going well and that Meg wasn't hurt. And... Percy is very surprised, but he's still not sure if it's in a bad way, a good way or in a flee-right-now-and-save-your-heart way. Apollo is very different now, and not just physically, there's something new. There's a new look in his eyes, his smile is less fake and less abnormally bright, now there's a warmness so sweet you can feel it. His voice is more soft and the tone is less smug, it's almost endearing. Percy doesn't like how quickly he noticed that change or how, deeply in his heart, he was anxiously waiting for Apollo to come back from the quests.
Time passes and he ended up feeling more and more comfortable when he was with Apollo, he realized he liked talking to him a lot when the god wasn't talking about himself all the time. Apollo was incredibly smart, Percy forgot he was actually the god of knowledge and basically a doctor.
Percy liked Apollo's voice, he didn't pay much attention before, he was too busy trying to stop his ears from bleeding after every "MEEE!!!" that came out of Apollo's mouth. He was signing a ballad now, his cabin was sitting around him in a circle, Percy couldn't remember the original singer's name but it didn't matter, Apollo sings it better anyway.
He didn't care what Apollo said, his new body was cute, it was strong and powerful in its own way, sometimes muscles are just for show (even though Percy liked muscles a lot). Apollo looked pretty when he cried, maybe it wasn't the crying but how big his heart was, how sensitive and caring he was now, Percy almost wiped the single tear that fell from his right eye. It was endearing how Apollo's cheeks flushed at everything all the time, his many freckles were cute, Percy wanted to trace them with his finger. 17, he had 17 freckles, 5 on his left cheek, 6 on his right cheek, 4 on his nose and two clear ones making a line on his forehead... Perhaps he had more on his chest or back.
Percy ran to his cabin before he made a horrible mistake.
Percy was acting weird, Apollo thought. He knew Lester was pathetic but he hoped Percy would still remember him as his godly, beautiful, bright physic and ignore his small, weak and trembling body and his ugly, full of acne face. If Percy didn't want him before he sure was gonna spit in his face if Apollo tried to ask him out again looking like that.
It wasn't until one of his last days as Lester that Percy blew his mind. Apollo was ready to fight Python, then Percy stopped him taking his hand. "Before you go, you'll need good luck" he said, and without giving Apollo a second to process the words, Percy grabbed him by the neck of his shirt and pulled him in for a kiss. Apollo swears he could've gotten his divinity back right there, at least that's how it felt. He felt dizzy, it was almost like he was struck by lightning, his whole body tingled and his hands were sweaty and shaking. Just before Apollo could decide where to put his hands the kiss was over, Percy pulled away suddenly and Apollo couldn't stop himself from leaning towards him for more.
Without wanting to ruin the moment Apollo opened his eyes, slowly, carefully looking at Percy. The demigod wasn't any better, his eyes were wide open, his breathing was ragged and his cheeks were as red as a rose. "Please be careful, come back to me" Percy whispered, he looked terrified, it was hard for Apollo to believe Percy Jackson was actually so worried about him. It was so surreal, Apollo might be dreaming. "I promise" Apollo said, he gave Percy a soft kiss on his forehead and left.
His days as Lester weren't funny or great at all, but he wouldn't change anything that led him to that fate, Apollo will be eternally thankful to whoever put Percy in his path. The thought of Percy falling in love with his most pathetic yet truest version of himself, the version that he'd never shown to anyone will always be unbelievable for him. Percy wanted him, all of him.
He would've cursed anyone who told him that, in the future, he would be living in a small department in a city full of demigods, that he'd love waking up in a simple bed with simple sheets and do nothing for the rest of the day, just be there enjoying simple moments with his favorite person, and following that same routine every day. Apollo won't allow himself to disappear from his children's lives again, he won't let his mind forget what's important and won't let his heart go numb and cold anymore. Looking at Percy right now, the idea of never feeling like that again seemed terrifying, if only the demigod was always there to guide him... Perhaps Apollo should ask him, one day.

Percy even accidentally hums this song and Poseidon is sick to his nonexistent stomach
Percy opens a Ranch by the sea to house retired/rescued former race/working horses. Percy loved helping Grover with the wild and wanted a way to do it as his everyday job. He could have been part of Grover's, on paper, non-profit wildlife rescue, but he wanted to not be travelling too much. He wanted to plant his roots somewhere.
Percy stumbled upon what happens to some race horses when they can't perform anymore and decided he wanted to find a way to help horses like them.
Apollo loved how passionate Percy was about this and decided to give Percy what he needed to get the place up and running. He even put wards around the ranch so his boyfriend won't have to worry about monster attacks. He also made sure stables exclusive for his fire horses would be around for when he decides to stay the night with Percy.
So Percy opens his rescue, he gets some volunteers, and opens donations. He opens the place to the public for some hours to give tours, even offer horse riding on the few horses that are capable. What the people visit the most for is the Therapeutic Horse Grooming. People like to come and zen out while combing the horses, while the horses love having the human interaction and LOVE being groomed.
Percy also opened a youtube channel for the ranch and gets good revenue from his videos. People especially love it when he livestreams when the horses go swimming. Being able to let the horses run on the beach and swim at sea is part of the reason why he chose the location he did.
Being that the ranch is monster free, his ranch becomes a popular stop over for demigods. Be it for quests, or just getting to camp or back home, Percy provides a safe space and refuel supplies for travel weary demigods.
Blackjack still calls Percy to go out and rescue a few sea animals, mythical or otherwise. Having fast access to the sea is another bonus to the ranch's location. Poseidon loves all the work Percy has done so far. He decides to fund for an expansion to Percy's ranch to also officially do sea life rescue and rehabilitation (also secretly has an underwater area where Poseidon assigned some merfolk and nereids to help with the mythological rehabilitation).
Everyone assumed Apollo would be thrilled to have his godhood back. Instead, Apollo was rarely seen on Olympus, and seemed mopey to boot. He was now typically seen hanging around Artemis, to her growing annoyance, as he didn’t even make himself useful by joining hunts, but just singing sad love songs. She finally chased him out after he somehow turned Holding Out for a Hero into a hymn.
Apollo found some short-lived solace in Meg before she smashed his ukelele mid-chorus of Angel of the Morning.
He then gravitated towards the older demigods, frequently crashing their study sessions.
Finally, after weeks and a rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart, Percy snaps.
“If I fuck you, will you stop singing love ballads?”
The guitar makes a discordant sound as the pencil in Will’s hand breaks.
“Ye-yeah,” Apollo stutters. Percy hauls himself to his feet, snagging Apollo’s wrist as he passes by him on the way out the door, dragging him along.
