Is he perfect? No! Of course not! He's also not a fucking villain like everyone wants to make him out to be! I've seen people legitimately say that Gil doesn't even like Lagoona, which... ARE WE STUPID??? why, on EARTH, would he put himself in jeopardy with his parents for a ghoul he's not even in love with??? He loves Lagoona more than ANYTHING, say what you want about him, he's a hopeless romantic and hopelessly in love with Lagoona.
'erm he's such a coward' YEAH NO SHIT HIS PARENTS ARE LITERALLY ABUSIVE??? OF COURSE HE'S SCARED OF THEM NUMBNUTS 😭
He's also just such an interesting character to analyze in general because I've noticed that his issues regarding the ocean moreso comes back to him having a self-victimizing mindset of HIM being freshwater rather than having much outward prejudice towards saltwater people. His whole deal is that HE thinks HE'S gunna get got because HE is freshwater, not because he believes saltwater monsters are inherently violent or anything.
He's also just such a fun archetype in general, I really fw the 'anxious lanky teen' trope (see Shaggy) and there's so much to do with his character and even more to see with him and Lagoona because oh my god my shaylas I need a collector two-pack of them YESTERDAY.
Anyways tldr I love Gil Webber he's my favorite sopping wet fish boy
