Why are people mad at Nikki for 'making will straight'? He isn't. She hasn't. He's excited to meet a weird cool new friend. She has a bit of a crush on him but in a chill way. He has not returned that, really at all.

My bet is in a second season, she'll maybe ask him out and he'll panic a bit but gently turn her down without knowing why he isn't into it, and Nikki will be cool about it and not ask questions coz she's awesome. They'll become penpals when she moves away (they wouldn't kill her off, she'll be like Argylle and just fade off outside the series)

Also Will and Mike's argument wasn't out of character either because... they're teenagers. Puberty is one helluva drug. 'They would never yell at each other like that' is stupid, coz they do. One of the recurring plots of the show is friends falling out and coming back together stronger than before. The fact that it's over Nikki makes sense, Mike was the same about Max joining the party, and this one's directly paralleling his protectiveness of El. Narratively very cool.

They're adding layers to the 'it's not my fault you don't like girls' thing, like the awkward snow ball dance was, and I think that's neat.
