Han, Leia and Luke as a trio in the first movie is so funny because Leia and Luke are revolutionaries who have lost absolutely everything and Han is like those guys with a sports car that revs their engines super loudly when they drive through tunnels

and one last hot take before i slink off into the void again is that anakin's bad political takes are actually relevant and don't discredit his difficult life circumstances. he grew up not just in poverty but in straight up slavery, which made him easy prey for a politician who started manipulating him. this is relevant! if we are talking about pipelines and the overall rise of fascism, you HAVE to contend with the fact it's not just wealthy, privileged people falling for it and that those rhetorics have historically been targeted at people who were in some way poor and miserable. there's a massive class difference between the queen ant and the workers of a fascist state and the dynamics at work there are openly exploitative. its all a delicate subject i know but i think its good to call out political manipulation as /manipulation/ and discard the assumption that half the people we're expected to build society with are ontologically evil. anakin is a good character to tackle these topics with because you get to see him from the start of his life and know full well he was a good egg. he enjoyed helping people, he was optimistic, he never wanted to hurt anyone. but the way he was manipulated and groomed loses its teeth if you uncomfortably want to shy away from what he was manipulated and groomed into. and you can't analyse how palpatine dissolved a flawed democracy and established a fascist empire if you're simultaneously trying to cover for a character who was both a victim and an accomplice. none of this means that you need to hate anakin or lack all sympathy for him, however, or disregard that he at every point has potential for redemption

I think an underappreciated element of Leia's character is that even after days or weeks of ruthless interrogation interspersed with torture, she still had the presence of mind to identify a feature of the Stormtrooper who barged into her cell that she could mock.
